Telarus News & Updates For May 2007

The latest buzz around Telarus these days is still the VAR program and the tremendous and unprecedented success that program is enjoying, as well as the increased commissions being seen by the agents who have brought VAR partners to the table. Last year, VAR sales accounted for approximately 7% of all sales at Telarus. But to show you how the VAR program is continuing to grow and expand exponentially, currently VAR sales account for about 20% of all sales, and that number continues to increase!

With that kind of growth and success, is it any wonder that the VAR program continues to have major space in Telarus newsletters and the monthly Telarus training calls? Folks, this is clearly where the company is going, and you don't have to take anyone's word for it, just look at the figures which speak for themselves.

Some new technologies are emerging which the majority of the Telarus carriers are embracing, which is MPLS and Ethernet. If you have not targeted those keywords in your search engine optimizations, now would be a great time to start, since those technologies are taking off like wildfire, and those terms are getting both a lot of press as well as a lot of keyword search activity and volume.

The fact is, there's a LOT of business out there. Historically, Telarus has been focused on the term "T1" for quite a long time, and hence the original name, ShopForT1. But did you realize that "T1" is only a very minor tip of the whole telecom iceberg, only the cheese on this very huge communications enchilada. In fact, it gets even better, because a lot of the second and third tier carriers cannot even provide many of these larger circuits and newer technologies, so when you find a company that is searching for this, there is far less chance that they would be swayed by the low price offering of a second or third tier carrier. Terms like MPLS, QOS, Ethernet, EOC (Ethernet Over Copper), and many second and third tier carriers are not able to offer the larger circuits such as DS3 (also sometimes known as T3) and OC3, OC12, even OC48 and OC192 circuits. Wouldn't it be nice if you found a customer who wanted an OC48 circuit? (Approximately $200k per month to the customer!)

So although the focus has been on "T1" and there is still a lot of business to be had there, do not limit yourself to T1 business. Even a full DS3 circuit would cost the customer between $4k and $6k per month or more. Add MPLS to that and that's about 25% more (depending on the carrier). Add QOS and that is more yet, and the number of carriers who can offer this type of circuit has just dropped dramatically, so you have also eliminated much of the competition!

The Telarus IT department is working hard to make changes to the system to accommodate this, where the plan is to make it much easier for customers to find these types of circuits more easily. Then add in the HOT demand for commercial VOIP services, and Telarus is soon the only game in town worth playing from the customer's perspective!

With all these telecom offerings under the Telarus umbrella, are you starting to understand why Telarus is moving AWAY from the "ShopForT1" name and moving TOWARDS the Telarus name? Telarus is becoming MUCH more than just T1 offerings. In fact, as the number of VAR partners increases (currently well over 2000 as of this writing), Telarus is moving towards being "one stop shopping" for virtually ANYTHING related to telecom in any way!

Make sure you are involved with the Telarus program, and be sure to go to your Telarus back office (http://agent.shopfort1.com) to read the training and marketing section for more information on how to get this program moving for you.

God Bless,

Michael

Telarus News & Updates For June 2007

Below is from my long time friend and partner Jon Arnold..........

VAR News

Some people get tremendous satisfaction out of being able to say "I told you so" when something they have predicted comes true, with that person noting that you took no or minimal action on it. (You can verify that with my wife...) I cannot emphasize this enough because this is the direction that things are going in the future. Yea, I do not have a crystal ball with 100% clarity at all times, and if I did, I would be buying lottery tickets, but this part of the crystal is clearer than the latest HD LCD TV at Best Buy -- GET INVOLVED IN THE VAR PROGRAM, NOW. The revenue that can be attributed to VARs is increasing every month and will continue to increase.

The business model created by Telarus for our VAR partners is changing the landscape of the industry at the speed of light. The benefits of having a top listing in the search engines cannot be understated and almost everyone understands that. So why would a Cisco dealer or PBX distributor spend $3-$10 per click on PPC (Pay Per Click) rankings or pay $25-$50 per lead from BuyerZone for a LEAD that they don't even know if it's valid or going to close? You've been around "leads" for long enough to know that a lead could be a high school kid wanting to play X-Box games at blinding speed or a bogus email or bogus phone, but with "paid for" leads or PPC marketing, you have still spent the money to get that lead, even though it is bogus with virtually zero chance of closing or even making contact.

Now contrast that with the Telarus model. For the major search terms, the VARPartners site has a top ranking in Google across the country, and those leads are FREE. Go to Google and enter something like "avaya dealer atlanta" or "pbx dealer denver" or "nortel distributor chicago" and see who comes up. Those leads go to our VAR partners, and if a sale result from this laser-targeted lead, they are more than happy to pay us (which includes YOU) a commission. If it does not result in a sale, no money changes hands, and that is extremely attractive to them. In other words, if the lead produces squat, then they owe squat.

If you are not looking at bringing VARs to the party, this is definitely something that needs to get on your radar as a huge blip. Think about it -- you can continue doing what you are doing now and getting (historical average) about 2% close ratio of the number of hits/clicks you get, which is very typical for Internet marketing, or you can bring some VARs to the party. The VARs are the ones who are doing the calling on customers face to face, who already have established relationships with customers, and are getting the laser targeted leads that result from our high search engine ranking for many VAR keywords, and if you can get a percentage of what THEY offer (routers, switches, phone systems, consulting time, etc), PLUS a percentage of the bandwidth sales they bring in, which one is easier, and which approach is going to create more revenue for you in the long term?

In your ShopForT1 back office, click on the VAR link and go through the VAR Introduction and Training, if you have not done so yet. All the information you should need should be there. Or you can add them manually, where you can see the option for VAR Admin -> Add New VAR.

Administrivia

You may be noticing changes with your leads over the next few weeks. This is due to the fact that I am taking things to the next level. To put it another way:

We are not dating anymore.

When you got married to your spouse, things changed. You were not dating anymore but had decided to make a firm and lasting commitment to a meaningful relationship with your spouse. You weren't dating anymore and the game was different. Perhaps in reality the game was not all that much different than it had been while you were dating, but taking that step to the altar changed things nonetheless, since you were both making a long-term commitment to your mutual future.

I am starting to clean out my back office. That means going through more than 3000 leads dating back to 2003. Telarus was new at that point and I was hanging onto every single lead that came in. Now WHY I would hang onto a lead in the "Attempted Contact" folder where the phone number was bogus or the email address was bogus is ... unclear. Perhaps that goes back to why I held onto the prize from a CrackerJacks box given to me by my 9th grade sweetie, which my wife took a dim view of.

But things are different now. Telarus has matured tremendously and I have matured along with it. I will no longer chase leads where the phone number or email address is bogus. For customers, they need to put at least a certain amount of trust in Telarus when they visit our site. When you meet someone for the first time, you may have skepticism about them up the wazoo, but if you provide them with blatant LIES in your first meeting (like a bogus email or phone), that relationship is doomed from the start.

Business is no different. I have zero interest in trying to resurrect a relationship that starts with lies, because that is not a relationship worth pursuing. There are more than enough serious leads where the customer may be skeptical of the Telarus ability to provide a quality carrier at a guaranteed lowest price, but that relationship can (and WILL) flourish if that customer gives me a chance to prove it.

Going back to the VAR program, that is where VARs shine yet again. When they have a customer who just bought a phone switch or a PBX or a Cisco router or whatever, and that customer needs a circuit go to with it, the quality of that lead is higher by a significant order of magnitude than what you could ever get elsewhere. Those leads are never the residential customer or the 12 year old kid - they are real.

We're not dating anymore. Right now I have my preferences set so that I am only accepting leads from agents who have me set as their HARD preference. If I am set as your soft preference, I will NOT be getting your leads. We either have a partnership relationship or we do not, there is no middle ground. It's like a woman stating that she is "kind of pregnant". Bull feathers. She either IS or IS NOT, there is no gray area.

We're not dating anymore. I am taking my business to the next level, and those agents who want to join me are welcome to do so. Be aware that this will present its own unique set of problems though ... the 1099 you get at the end of the year from Telarus has the very real potential to be embarrassingly large, and the IRS is going to want their cut of it...

God Bless,

Michael

Telarus News & Updates

In the Telarus world, the VAR program is going great guns and continues to set sales records. If you have not yet tuned into the VAR program, let's talk briefly about what that is and how it can benefit you.

Let's say you have a neighbor, a friend, an acquaintance, etc who is the director of sales for something like Avaya phone switches, or Cisco routers, or Nortel phone systems, etc. Why would becoming a Telarus VAR very likely be extremely attractive to this person?

First, nobody would argue that having a top ranking in Google for these specific search terms is a good thing. Having that top ranking in Google provides companies such as this with their bread & butter. How much more targeted can you get that with somebody doing a Google search with the search term "cisco dealer atlanta" or "avaya dealer miami"?

That's great but how does one achieve top rankings in Google for searches like that? One way is PPC or "Pay Per Click". The company actually pays Google to be one of the "sponsored listings" for those search terms, and the company pays Google every time somebody clicks on their link. Here is the important part -- they pay Google for that click whether or not that click results in a sale for the company. That click cost the company anywhere from $5 to $50 depending on the search term, and the click could have been done by somebody who was tire kicking, some high-school kid doing research for a term paper, or it could have been done by a real customer with an intent to buy. But Google doesn't care -- a click is a click, and the company pays for that click irrespective of whether that click resulted in a sale.

There are also companies online who will sell leads to these companies. Buying a lead could cost from $20 to $100 per lead, and again, there is NO guarantee that the lead will result in a sale.

Now contrast that with the Telarus VAR program. For a huge variety of search terms (with more coming daily), the VARPartners.com site has a top Google ranking, almost always coming in within the top 4 or 5, and frequently coming in as #1 after the sponsored links. In other words, the top ranking is FREE. When the customer enters their information, it is sent to the VAR matching the requirements of the customer, and it becomes the responsibility of the VAR to close the lead.

But here's where the huge difference is. Let's say that the lead does not result in a sale. NO MONEY CHANGES HANDS! It did not cost the VAR one red cent to get that lead. If the lead DOES result in a sale, then the company pays a commission to Telarus, but if it does NOT result in a sale, no money is due. That is a HUGE cost savings to the VARs, and the 2500 VARs that are currently part of the Telarus VAR program realize this and appreciate it greatly.

Now the best part. If you are responsible for bringing a new VAR to the party, then YOU get a percentage of the commission that they pay to Telarus for each sale that closes. And if they also bring a circuit sale to the table that closes, you also get a percentage of that. This applies for ALL sales and circuits that the VAR is responsible for ... all just for a one-time introduction!

Make sure you are involved with the Telarus program, and be sure to go to your Telarus back office (http://agent.shopfort1.com) to read the training and marketing section for more information on how to get this program moving for you.

Telarus News & Updates

In the Telarus world, the VAR program is going great guns and continues to set sales records. Yes, the last several issues here have talked about the VAR program, but that program is gaining so much momentum so fast that it remains a focal point for Telarus, and should become and remain a focal point for you as well.

To give you an idea of why VARs continue to play an important part of the Telarus strategy, consider that at the end of 2006, the Telarus revenue from VARs only amounted to about 4% of total revenues. But for 2007 year to date so far, the revenues from VARs accounts for about 40% of total Telarus revenue, up by a factor of TEN! With that kind of growth and the year only half over, is it any wonder why the VAR program remains a focal point!

Part of that strategy is to get good leads in the hands of those VARs, and Telarus has not been slacking in that department either. Go into Google and enter a search phrase such as "pbx dealer atlanta" or "cisco dealer miami" "nortel dealer chicago" or something like that. Chances are extremely high that you will see the top search results from "varnetwork.com", which is the Telarus VAR program. Do you understand how incredibly valuable a top search engine position is and what kind of traffic it gets?

But wait, you say, there are some sponsored listings that are higher than the varnetwork.com search results? Yes there are in most cases. But you know what -- the customer PAID to be in those positions, and he pays to be in those positions when anyone clicks his link, whether or not that click resulted in a sale or not. That is PPC or Pay Per Click advertising, and it may have cost him $2 per click, $5 per click, or even more to get that position, and he is not guaranteed a sale.

But via the Telarus VAR network, the VAR does not owe Telarus a commission, regardless of how many leads he gets, unless that lead results in a sale. Do you see how this can make the VARs advertising and marketing dollars go further by an order of magnitude, making the Telarus VAR program even more valuable to them?

This is just the tip of the VAR iceberg, but hopefully enough to get you to want to understand it more thoroughly, especially from the standpoint of what this all means to YOU, the lead agent. Go into your back office and listen to the ShopForT1/Telarus Agent Training call from Thursday 6/14/07, where the VAR program was discussed in depth and detail, focusing on such items as:
  • What is the VAR program?
  • Who is a potential VAR?
  • What is the benefit to the VAR?
  • How do they get leads?
  • What is my benefit as a lead agent, in bringing a VAR to the party?
Make sure you are involved with the Telarus program, and be sure to go to your Telarus back office (http://agent.shopfort1.com) to read the training and marketing section for more information on how to get this program moving for you.

God Bless,

Michael

Telarus News & Updates

Within Telarus, a major focus remains on the VAR program and it continues to improve and accelerate. In July, Telarus, the parent company of VARNetwork.com, announced the release of VARSearch 3.0, the next generation in logic that matches customers looking for networking and telephony equipment with Value Added Resellers.

With VARSearch 3.0 in place, your leads will be routed mostly to VARs who have a track record of great service AND sending Telarus their T1 deals. Remember that you get paid MORE on a T1 sale when it is referred by a VAR you recruited than if it is refereed by you directly! You can recruit VARs here:

http://www.VARPartner.com/?cogid=cognigenagentid

where cognigenagentid is of course your Cognigen agent ID.

Part of the recent rollout of some major updates to the VAR program now include requiring VARs to reciprocate leads. No longer will Telarus simply provide leads to VARs who do not reciprocate with bandwidth leads. VARs will measured on the same type of RPL (Revenue Per Lead) criteria that closers are measured on, as discussed in previous issues of the Cognigen Times. VARs who do not reciprocate leads will have a much lower priority in the rankings, and therefore not receive nearly as many leads. But the VARs who grasp the concept of the VAR program and how it can be tremendously beneficial on a MUTUAL basis will reap the rich rewards.

Part of that strategy is to get good leads in the hands of those VARs, and Telarus has not been slacking in that department either. Telarus News & Updates For September 2007

Telarus has recently announced the newest offering in this rapidly changing technical environment, ShopForEthernet. While Ethernet services are not available to nearly the wide extent that T1 lines are, Ethernet is tremendously cost effective where it is available, and this addition goes one more step towards allowing customers to view Telarus as one-stop shopping for any telecom-related need.

There was a training call on Thursday August 23 2007 which was dedicated to talking about ShopForEthernet, so if you missed that, you might want to go to your ShopForT1 back office, go to the Training -> Audio Library section and listen to the audio recording of that training call. ShopForEthernet is fully explained there, as well as what it means to you and several ideas of very effectives ways to market it.

ShopForEthernet works a bit differently than T1 or DS3 quotes. After the customer has entered the street address for their installation location, GeoQuote will show a list of "lit buildings" near that address. Like the T1 or DS3 quotes, it does not show which carriers are in those lit buildings.

When the lead goes to the Telarus closer, the closer's view of this record DOES show which carriers are represented by nearly lit buildings, and how far the customer's location is from those buildings.

Where Ethernet is available, it is a very cost effective option for the customer. As a representative example (and you should NEVER quote prices to the customer!), a T1 line might go for $400-$500 per month, which gives the customer 1.5mb of bandwidth. But a typical Ethernet circuit giving the customer 10 (TEN!) mb of bandwidth might be priced under $1400!

It is important to note that this is NOT for residential use, since even a T1 at $400-$500 is typically not within the budget of residential customers.

Telarus continues to also focus on the VAR program, as discussed in previous issues of the Cognigen Times, and the VAR program continues to draw praise from the VAR partners. Most of them are truly amazed that Telarus is able to provide them with free leads, where a commission is only due for sales that close, and they are happy to reciprocate with leads for bandwidth. They are also very happy to note that Telarus has been able to gain top search engine positioning for their core market keywords, which only serves to enhance their market share via the hot leads that Telarus provides to them.

If you have not yet become familiar with ShopForT1, ShopForEthernet and the Telarus VAR program, you are encouraged to start reading in your ShopForT1 back office and get started. The agents who have done so are continuing to enjoy the residual commissions that accompany closed sales, both from bandwidth as well as from the hardware and services sales of the VAR partners they have brought to the table.

God Bless,

Michael

September 2007 ShopForT1 Newsletter

TELARUS LAUNCHES SHOPFORETHERNET.COM
----------------------------------------------
Ethernet?  Yeah, it's a way for businesses to get up to 10GB broadband connections with prices as low as $10 per meg.  The catch?  The business must by physically located in or near a building that has an "on ramp" to the fiber backbone of the internet.  Many different carriers have facilities across the country, and Telarus is the ONLY company that can tell your customers where they are!

Together with Google Maps, Telarus has created a tool that will allow you to generate leads for metro Ethernet broadband:

http://ShopforEthernet.com/?cogid=mscprez

Metro Ethernet is the future of commercial broadband, and carriers are spending at a frantic pace trying to build the facilities necessary to reach the biggest clients.  Not only are Ethernet sales larger than T1's (the average Ethernet customer pays over $2000/month, as opposed to a $400 T1), Ethernet customers don't churn.  In most cases, there aren't any other choices in the building except the one carrier who has fiber present.

We have also just updated the GeoQuote PLUS sites to include the Ethernet/Google mapping tools.  If you own a PLUS site or operate a GeoQuote XML plug-in (details are in your back office if you don't know what these are), please contact min@telarus.com so Min can help you update your code!  The update is free of charge, first come, first serve.

TELARUS PARTNERS WITH BANDTEL FOR SIP TRUNKING
--------------------------------------------
SIP what?  Simply put, SIP is a technology that enables VoIP hardware to effectively route to different IP addresses on the internet, making it possible for businesses to answer a call, put the caller on hold, and transfer the call to another office in Europe - all over the internet using VoIP.  SIP trunking is becoming a huge part of our business as VARs from the VAR program bring in more and more of these deals.

We have planned the construction of ShopforSIPtrunking.com for the latter part of this year.  Also on the white board are ShopforVoIP.com, and ShopforMPLS.com.  These three sites will further enable you to reach the masses with the best commercial products available!

CONCLUSION
--------------------------------------------
There has never been a better time to get involved in Telarus and Cognigen than right now! With ShopforT1, the VAR Network, and now ShopforEthernet, you've been armed with the ability to generate leads for ANY commercial application out there!  Keep up the great work and thanks for being a valuable member of our organization!

Telarus News & Updates For October 2007

During the week of September 24 2007, many of the Telarus management and staff attended the Channel Partner Expo in New Jersey, which is one of the biggest trade shows of the year in the telecom industry. One of the things that has become a "standard" when Telarus attends shows like this is that they all wear Telarus golf shirts. This is a good thing, since many of the attendees also wear golf shirts with their company logo show on it. But one of the things that became readily evident with the Telarus folks is that the Telarus golf shirt was gaining significant recognition amongst the carriers and vendors.

People in the telecom industry who are serious about it keep their ear pretty close to the ground so that they understand what is happening in the industry, and the overall recognition of the Telarus name in terms of the business success that Telarus is enjoying, as well as the phenomenal success of the VAR Partners program (which has almost created its own business model in terms of "pay per ACTION" instead of "pay per lead"), as well as the ground-breaking first-of-its-kind technology implemented in the ShopForEthernet system was truly amazing.

Everyone wants to be associated with a company who is a recognized leader in the industry, and in the telecom industry, Telarus enjoyed significant recognition in terms of companies wanting to hook up to the Telarus wagon. They recognized the growth and success in the systems and business models that Telarus has created, they are seeing additional growth in the future, and of course want to be associated with that.

As a lead agent, you are already associated with that in terms of your lead creation capabilities with Telarus and the partnership you have with them. If you haven't done so yet, you are encouraged to become more familiar with the Telarus systems, the VAR program, and the ShopForEthernet program. Find out how to capitalize on those programs for your own benefit and start to enjoy the fruits of your labors in your monthly commission checks.

God Bless,

Michael

Here's  the latest from my friend and partner Jon Arnold......

Fall Update

How are things going for you these days?

I feel that I need to ask because I am not seeing a lot of activity from lead agents these days, so I assume something else is going on? In fact, it is almost disappointing to me in that I have had time to do something over the past month or so that a lack of time has prevented me from doing over the past 4 years since Telarus opened their doors, and that is do some marketing to create my own leads. I have learned a heck of a lot about search engine optimization and getting traffic to sites since I decided to make that a focal point for myself about a year or so ago, but at the same time I am disappointed (in a way) that I DO have the time to do that, as opposed to following up on your leads.

From my vantage point, I see very few of you following up on the tremendously huge opportunities that ShopForEthernet brings to the table, even after the training call we had several weeks ago that concentrated on that and how to market it. Folks, this is almost like shooting fish in a barrel. While it requires more effort than search engine optimization, the results are much greater, both in terms of viable customer opportunities as well as the size of the circuit sale. I guess I am not understanding why more people are not jumping all over this particular bandwagon, especially from the sense that Telarus has created some ground breaking technology here that is not available anywhere else, and with some carriers, not even available within the carrier itself!

I am also not understanding where more of you are not looking very seriously at the VAR program. I have been bringing in VARs myself, and enjoying the split that I get when they close an equipment lead that they receive. Telarus is also starting to focus on the reciprocation aspect of the VAR program to ensure that VARs will reciprocate bandwidth leads to us to raise their VAR score due to referring viable bandwidth sales to us.

Remember, if YOU refer a VAR to the system, then YOU receive a percentage of all products and services that they sell - FOREVER - as well as a percentage of all bandwidth sales that they refer back to us. That is like having an employee working for you, except that you don't have to pay them. Just a handful of the right VARs can set you up with a very respectable residual income.

I would encourage you to become a student of the technology you are trying to master, which is search engine optimization and the right traffic generation for your Telarus sites. Just throwing the pages out there is not going to gain you much. In fact, I can almost determine which agents are doing exactly minimal optimization or putting minimal effort into it because that is where I get the residential leads, or the leads with bogus emails and names like "Donald Duck".

There are some agents who generate 80% (+) bogus or residential leads, and there are other agents who generate less than 10% bogus or residential leads. All agents have the same resources available to them, but some have apparently taken the time required to find out how to do things the right way. While unfortunate, I need to start to shut some of these agents off, because if they are unwilling to take the time necessary to find out how to do things the right way and to seek help when they don't understand something, well, if they aren't serious about it, my seriousness about them is correspondingly low.

As an analogy to where I'm going with this, if I go out to my car in the morning and it will not start, I don't need to find my rocket science to degree to know that something is wrong. (duh...) That doesn't mean I know how to fix it -- that is an area of study that I have never gotten into, but I know who to call to make it happen and get it fixed. By the same token, you have the resources at your fingertips to get your questions answered, as well as resources Internet-wide to find out more about traffic and search engine positioning. It pains me to note that there are very few postings on the Telarus BBS from week to week, since there are many people ready, willing and able to answer the tough questions who watch the BBS on a regular basis.

Are you getting the necessary information on traffic, marketing, and search engine positioning elsewhere? That's perfectly fine, as long as you are getting it somewhere, assuming it is a credible source. As a hint, not every source on the Internet is credible, and I have seen many sites that offer totally bogus information on this topic.

My dad once told me that if I am going to take the time to do something, then either make the commitment to do it WELL or don't do it at all. That applies in a LOT of areas, and if I had not made the commitment to learn to play the piano well when I was younger, I would not have been able to pay my way through college via playing for the dinner hour in fancy restaurants as well as doing keyboards with a rock band as well as doing keyboards for the church praise band, etc. You get my drift. You cannot just throw spaghetti against the wall to see what sticks and leave it like that, unless that spaghetti is part of your OVERALL plan and you are going to try it again after boiling it longer to see if MORE sticks the next time.

The key is to become a student of your own business. Take the time to learn what you need to do in order to obtain the results you want. Don't flunk yourself out if the first couple tries don't yield the appropriate results, but continue in student mode, and if nothing else, understand what it is that you need to understand, and then find out where to get those answers.

I would encourage you to treat your business AS a business and to take it seriously. As an example, I currently have TWO proposals out there for GigE circuits from very serious customers. And they were quite pleased with the pricing I got for them, which was under $23 per MB. (If you are feeling math-challenged today, GigE = 1 GB = 1000 MB and at $23 per MB, that is $23,000 per month to the customer... every month... for at least 3 years... which pays commissions to you ... every month ... for at least 3 years...)

The moral here is that those types of opportunities are out there and are ripe for the picking, assuming you have done your pre-requisite homework to understand how to target the right keywords, how to get links, how to get ranking, and are both consistent as well as persistent about taking the required steps.

I have a lot of skills and talents, but telepathy is not one of them. If you are having a problem, drop me an email and let me know and let's see if we can figure it out. As far as offline marketing, have you tried it yet? Burn some shoe leather and see what happens, drop some flyers off in an office building. Can't get out during the day due to your regular J.O.B.? I can send directions on how to put a stamp on an envelope if you need it... The question becomes one of what have you tried and what do you need to try yet? There may be an approach that yields 1000% better results that you have not yet found time to employ. I can guarantee with almost 100% assuredness that you have not tried everything yet. No time? I am a charter member of the "Not Enough Hours In The Day" Club, and I can tell you that people will MAKE time for things that are important to them -- that is human nature and applies to you also, I am sure.

God bless,

Jon Arnold

Telarus News & Updates For November 2007

The Telarus finely-tuned engine continues to set records on the telecom race course. The VAR program is continuing to move forward with more VARs being added every week. See last month's issue about how the VAR program represents a virtual "no brainer" for telecom equipment and services providers who are currently spending a small fortune for luke-warm leads and ineffective PPC campaigns.

Based on current data and trends, Telarus expects that revenues directly attributable to VARs will account for about 40% of revenues in 2008. For this year to date, the sale of equipment and services from Telarus VARs is about $8 million in contract value.

The new Ethernet tool is also generating some great sales. The tool allows the closers to see where the customer is located in relation to a carrier's lit building and do some "suggestive selling". There was a recent customer who was looking for a bonded T1 line, but the closer notified that the customer was very close to a lit building and was able to get a contract signed for an Ethernet circuit. The benefit to the customer was much more bandwidth than he originally requested (which was dictated by his budget), and the benefit to the lead agent who brought the lead in is about $200 more in revenue and therefore also in commissions ... every month ... for the next 36 months!

ShopForT1/Telarus is not just for T1 sales anymore, which is one of the big reasons for focusing on the change from "ShopForT1" to the corporate name "Telarus". Telarus is closing some very large bandwidth sales, and not just with Ethernet either. Comparing some of those sales to a T1 is like comparing a 2008 Lexus to a 62 VW. And in terms of commissions, it is like comparing a plastic piggy bank to a lock box in Fort Knox.

If you have not yet gotten in tune with how you can be a part of this revenue stream which continues to grow every month, you are encouraged to log into your Telarus back office (http://agent.shopfort1.com) and listen to the recorded conference calls and read/absorb the materials in the marketing section. Also take time to participate and ask questions in the BBS there, which is monitored by closers and Telarus staff. Get involved and understand how to market these products, both online and offline, and start getting your share of this booming market!

God Bless,

Michael

TELARUS LAUNCHES VARSEARCH 3.0 PLUG-IN
-----------------------------------------------

Many agents have added our VAR Search Engine, called "VARSearch" to their web sites.  When you generate a lead to one of our VARs, and that leads results in a sale, you make 2%-5% commission.  Just one week ago a VAR closed a lead that resulted in $30,000 worth of equipment being sold, yielding the agent who generated the lead a whopping $1500.00!

If you have a web site and would like to add "VARSearch 3.0" to your pages, please go to:

http://agent.shopfort1.com > geoquoteplus_xml_plugin_varsearch.cfm

We have two VARSearch interfaces to choose from:

1) Search by zip code [EX: http://geoquote.net/varsearch.php ]
2) Search by product type [EX: http://geoquote.net/varsearch2.php ]*
* This allows you to create brand-specific pages for Google.

If you need help installing this FREE code to your site, please contact Min Lieu, at min@telarus.com.

God Bless,

Michael

Telarus News & Updates For December 2007

You may want to pick up a copy of the December 2007 issue of Phone Plus magazine, since it contains a full page ad for Telarus, as well as the feature article for this issue being Telarus with a focus on the new ShopForEthernet offering. This is going to be giving Telarus even more visibility in the telecom market, and also allows you to gain additional credibility with your business customers since you are, in effect, affiliated with Telarus.

One very interesting item that should be noted is that prior to the end of November 2007, Telarus exceeded the 150,000th lead in the system since opening their doors! That is a LOT of leads! "We are very excited to have delivered over 150,000 leads to our agents over the past four years" commented Adam Edwards, president of Telarus, Inc. "Being able to compliment our agent's own lead generation with warm internet leads has been a huge value-add."

As the calendar year winds down, the rate of development within Telarus continues unabated, and plans are already on the drawing boards. As the ShopFor "family" continues to expand, ShopForVoip should be coming early in 2008. ShopForEthernet continues to expand, and will expand greatly as the Phone Plus magazine article starts to circulate amongst telecom professionals.

Of course, the VARpartner program continues to grow by leaps and bounds. As of the end of November 2007, total Telarus revenue that is attributed to VAR partners is about one third, and the estimated goal is that by year's end, this could approach the internally forecast figure of 40%. This is incredible and the VAR partners who are onboard with Telarus and have taken the time necessary to understand how to work with the leads sent to them are ecstatic. And for the VARs who are reciprocating bandwidth leads back to Telarus, those VARs are finding instant credibility with their clients, because there is no other system available where they can get quotes from as many as 30 carriers within seconds.

If you have not yet taken the time to become an integral part of the opportunity that Telarus represents for you, please visit your Telarus back office as soon as possible and review the training and marketing materials there. Take some time over the holiday break to print out, read, and absorb the material so that you can hit the ground running with the start of the new year.

God Bless,

Michael

Telarus News & Updates For January 2008

If you did not participate in the Telarus agent training call in December, then you may not be aware of a recent change that can mean significantly more money in your pockets. For all hand entered leads that close, the commission you receive is going to double. That's right, you get a 100% raise for any hand-entered leads that close.

But even as significant as that news is, it would seem to warrant a bit of explanation. Telarus and ShopForT1 have been in place for about four and a half years ago, and the growth has been tremendous and unprecedented in the industry. This has been a tremendous blessing for agents who have taken advantage of this opportunity to get commissions on "big ticket items", the kind of things that could not have even been hoped for prior to the advent of Telarus.

But one of the things that goes along with that, as has been printed in these pages in previous issues, is that fact that even for as good as the Telarus web pages are in the search engines, the simple fact of the matter is that only about 2% of Internet leads close. This is because an Internet lead cannot be "scrubbed" adequately enough to discount the lead from a college student doing a networking term paper, the 12 year old kid who wants to play X-Box games at blinding speed, the curiosity seeker wondering how much a T1 line costs, the residential customer who cannot get DSL or cable and is checking T1 but has no intention of paying more than $50 a month for it, and so much more.

So in other words, you need to generate about 50 Internet leads before you get even ONE that actually closes.

On the other hand, Telarus is now going to reward agents who want to do more go to the next level. If you go out and burn some shoe leather, you talk to IT managers and network admins, you drop some flyers in office buildings and so many other ways of doing offline marketing (and by the way, there is an entire section in your Telarus back office about offline marketing), statistics have shown that the number of leads that close is actually greater than 16%.

For the math-challenged, that is EIGHT TIMES GREATER than the close ratio for Internet-generated leads! The reason for this is simple -- when you are talking to someone, you know almost immediately if they are interested, just curious, or willing to talk to someone like a Telarus closer who can talk pricing, benefits, features, etc. You don't get the 12 year old kids or the college students doing term papers.

Again, as has been stated on the Telarus training calls for the past 4.5 years, you do not need to be technical. In fact, you really don't even need to be able to differentiate between a T1 line and a clothes line. All you need to do is find the INTEREST and a Telarus closer will take it from there.

The increase in commission is because since you are doing most of the "lead scrubbing" to ensure it is really someone who is interested in at least discussing bandwidth, the Telarus closers time is maximized, and you are being rewarded for your efforts.

Please note that this does not mean that you can thumb through the Yellow Pages and start entering company names and phone numbers into your back office. That would be classified as a COLD CALL and that is not what this is designed for. The hand-entered lead is someone that you have already talked to, and they have indicated that they would be interested in talking with someone to get more information and details.

Make one of your New Years resolutions to get yourself ramped up with the Telarus program, and create time to earn the 100% commission increase that this new facet will provide for you.

God Bless,

Michael

Telarus News & Updates For January 2008

HAND ENTERED LEADS PAY 50/50 SPLIT

We're getting 2008 started off with a bang!  Beginning January 1, 2008 Telarus is paying a 50/50 split to all lead generators for hand entered business telecom leads!  (The split is still 25/75 for web generated leads).  The average T1 pays around $50 per month, so every deal could increase you monthly check by $25.  Also keep in mind the average contract length is 2 years, so that money is practically bankable.

===============

LEVERAGE OUR TOOLS WITH ETHERNET

Did you know that Telarus is the ONLY Master Agent in the country that knows which building are wired for Ethernet (10 Mbps - 1 Gbps) high speed Internet?  That's right!  And many tenants of these office buildings have NO IDEA it is there!

Go to http://agent.shopfort1.com/ > GEOQUOTE and select "Data" and "Ethernet" to run a quote on your home address.  This will show you where the nearest Lit Buildings are to your home.  If you don't see anything on the map at first, use the "zoom out" button on the Google map.  You'll see the 10 nearest buildings in your area.

If you'd like to knock the building, please let us know.  We can find out which provider is in the building and have an 'official sales badge' created for you so that you can go in with authority.  Again, you don't have to know much about Ethernet - all you have to do is see if the company would be interested in a fiber optic connection with speeds ranging from 10 Mbps to 1 Gbps for under $20/meg.  You may not know what this means, but know that it's a SCREAMING deal.

If you find a business who is interested, again, go to your back office http://agent.shopfort1.com > GEOQUOTE LEAD ENTRY and enter the Business' information.  Use he "notes" field to let our closers know about the company, the fact that you foot canvassed them, etc.  One of our trained Metro Ethernet specialists will call the prospect and take it from there.

Remember, since this is a "hand entered" lead, you'll earn 50% of the total commission payout!  Ethernet commission ranges from $200 to $1000 per month - so you can see it won't take many deals before you can quit your "day job"!

====================

NEW GEOQUOTE INTERFACE COMING IN FEBRUARY

February will usher in the first re-design of our GeoQuote user interface EVER!  We are reprogramming it so that ALL of the products we have to offer are visible to your prospects (and to you!).  We will be installing the new interface on ALL of our Plug-In sites.

After we announce the update, we'll have a programmer on staff (min@shopfort1.com) who will be able to go into your code and make the required updates.

God Bless,

Michael

Here's a quick update from my partner Jon Arnold as he attends the Channel Partners Telecom trade show here in Las Vegas.

"This has been superb, and Telarus has a booth in the exhibit hall for the first time at this show. It is gaining a lot of visibility and popularity from attendees, both agents and carriers.

Just so you know, Telarus won the Telecom Association's Member's Choice award as the Top Agency! We are so proud of having won this award and it is yet another feather in our hat as we move forward.

Also, you may want to watch this quick video on YouTube of Adam Edwards, CEO of Telarus, speaking from the floor of the exhibit hall."
