| My name is Alex and I have just retired. My retirement income is 'FAR' less than a person can really live on. I am currently living in the San Francisco Bay Area and the cost of living here is among the highest in the nation. I did not 'CHOOSE' to retire but did so because of a lingering disability. I can no longer continue doing what I am most experienced in (General Construction) and truth be told I don't really want to. I am burnt out. A severe illness has cost me everything I ever worked for and now find myself amoung the impoverished in America. Not one to lay down and die (or cry) I am now looking to venture on into something new. Since the internet is our 'NEW FRONTIER' I want to venture in that direction but have at this time limited resources. I've shared my thoughts with a few people and can't believe the amount of negativity associated with network and/or internet marketing. I understand that there are some programs available that can teach me how to generate some opt-in leads and avoid having to approach friends and relatives. Once I begin generating an income and living the life I believe possible with these programs, I believe my success itself will draw them to me. Then I can share with them what I, right now, believe possible. I am registering at a few of these forums searching for the right program to begin with. I do'n have the means now, but will soon, to join the one's that take a large initial investment equalling a larger return as well. Does anyone know of any that take little to begin with but offer good training? Please let me know! alex-4n4

Hi Alex,
My name is Frank Tocco and I'm from Mendocino, California.
I too was in the construction business and got burned out. Now I'm a Network Marketer and proud of it. It affords me the opportunity to live anywhere so I moved to Cancun, Mexico.
Sorry to hear about your injury.
Network Marketing does receive lots of negative responses that's true, but most of those people tried it for a short time, half-heartedly, and then quit.
Once you meet the people that are really successful at it they will tell you that true success in network marketing is a process. It's not a job.
Building a business is different from a job.
A job pays you a salary or commission and a business, a true business creates jobs. A job trades your time for dollars and a business creates a system that eventually pays you even when you’re not there.
But just like a job, there are things to learn in creating a business.
Imagine that creating a business is like hiring yourself.
You work for yourself with other people.
You are 100% responsible for the growth and health of your business.
And likewise, only you can fire yourself. But what if you’re not working or doing anything? You can’t fire yourself if you’re not working to begin with.
What makes some people self-motivated?
1. You must be willing to learn. You have to be teachable. You remember back in school, the people you couldn't stand to be around, the ones that really drove you nuts, were the ones who thought the sun shined on their heads only and we were left to scramble for the left-over. I can't stand these kinds of people and what I have found is that, unless a fortune has been given to you, these types people will fail miserably over and over again. What I found is that this type of person is found in every station in life. I've met people who didn't have 2 nickels to rub together but, they still think they have it all figure out. IF YOU TRULY WANT SUCCESS, ALWAYS BE A STUDENT. The most incredibly wealthy people I have ever met will still stop and listen if you say, "Hey, do you want to learn something I found out."
2. You must have a BIG, BIG reason why you want the success. I cannot stress this enough. In my case, I lost my first sweetheart in a car accident and I was always playing catch up with the bills. I know it sounds like a country-western song but it's true. I wanted to BEAT THE ODDS.
For some of you it might be for the kids, grandkids, for more free time, travel...whatever but it has to be a BURNING DESIRE. People who know their “WHY” have an unseen advantage. The winners are the people that have a strong and passionate reason “WHY” they’re building a business.
3. You must be willing to put forth an effort, REALLY PUT OUT AN EFFORT. Look, you can make so much money part-time you'll need the rest of your time to figure out how to spend it but, if you can't make a FOCUSED effort then forget it. Let me save you a headache...GO BUY A LOTTERY TICKET. (Just remember, most people who do win the lottery end up financially in worse shape than before). I have to be honest, most people, 80% are lazy...moss growing from the feet lazy. I mean this country has become the land of opportunity to make someone else RICH, in fact, IF YOU DON'T TAKE ACTION FOR YOURSELVES, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE TAKING ACTION FOR SOMEONE ELSE. Please don't confuse this with what I said earlier, "it is better to give than to receive."
You see, your past has nothing to do with what happens from here forward. If you've been successful- that's great- but it's not guarantee of future success. If you've had failures (and we all have) it's OK too because those experiences have no bearing on what you can create together moving forward...
This is going to be a process of learning and getting better, but you can do it! You might be scared, unsure, or uncomfortable as you grow... Those feelings are natural.
Do you remember how scared you were when you first rode your bike without training wheels? Or the first time you learned to walk or swim? Success is a process.
Nothing is 'comfortable' the first time you do it... Not even for me. But if you learn to create good habits and confidence in yourself, the success will come- maybe even sooner than you think!
In closing, I wanted to write this letter to let you know that I have every interest in seeing you succeed, and I am willing to do everything in my power to help... However, in the end, you are your own greatest asset, and the amount you invest in yourself will determine how far you rise!

Alex,
Look at the Company Discussion Boards in the Forum here. You may see a business which looks like it's a fit for you. I'd start in the Cognigen / Commission River board. Theirs is no cost...they offer lots of continous training .... and the commissions are pretty good.

Hi Alex,
Frank Tocco here...
There's lots of businesses that you could do online and off line. I would reccommend you find something you can get passionate about and something with as large as possible market for the products. It's also a good idea to find products that can be shipped world-wide so you are not limited geographicaly.
Two trends happening in the world today are health related products and home-based businesses.
As more baby boomers are reaching retirement they are looking for additional income that they can create on their own schedule and they are looking for ways to feel younger and more healthy. These are two rising tides and as you know, a rising tide raises all ships. Just make sure your ship is on the water.
What kinds of ideas have you thought of or could get excited about?
What kind of income are you looking to create and how much time do you have to build a business?
There's lots of programs out there but if you're new to this business the training is as important, if not more important, then the product. Products have to be good too, but training is crutial.
There's lot's of people claiming to be trainers when in fact they are just parroting what they've heard others saying and haven't actualy built a thriving business themselves. It's very important for new people just starting in this industry to find a mentor that has proven their success and follow in their footsteps. This saves you the trouble of making the same rookie mistakes that they did when they first started.
Personaly, I like businesses that allow me to train online with audio and video tutorials because I can work it into my own schedule. For those of us less self-motivated, there's some businesses that have local and regional meetings. I've done businesses like that and have to admit that the excitement and accountbility of being at a meeting with other like-minded people is contagious, although getting people to take time out of their busy schedule to go to regular meetings is not that easy.
If you're reason for starting a business is strong enough and you're self-motivated, I highly reccommend audio/video training by the top people in your chosen busniness.
