Not so long ago I had read an article about a woman who dramatically increased her page ranking from article submissions on her new website. That was a fact I already knew, just like many other Internet Marketers. However, that article was the needed inspiration I needed for me to make some changes with my daily online business habits.
Since I started studying the changes in my online traffic, the effects on adding content to your website and the change in search engine rankings, I've learned the importance of writing what you know and sharing it with others out there on the Internet.
I never took submitting and writing articles on a consistent basis too seriously when I first started my home based business. Part of the reason was because I was not confident enough to share what I knew with others. Sure I posted a few articles, but I never posted those articles to as many directories and ezines that would accept my article.
Now before you go about thinking it might NOT be necessary to write an article periodically, take a look at some of the facts I have taken more seriously and learned as a result of posting articles online.
10 Benefits Of Submitting Articles online:
1. Posting an article online has more of a dramatic affect than one might think for your home based business. Posting articles online builds the needed momentum of website traffic in the form of increased popularity and other sites linking to your site. All of those sites linking to you are one way links!
2. As you begin to submit more articles to more directories, your list of places for submitting articles will keep expanding.
3. Submitting to websites regularly will add more popularity to your website. This is the easiest way to improved your link popularity as well as your increased website traffic.
4. Most directories usually will let you include a resource box with your name and your website link with your article. Your website address will be found every time someone reads your article, creating more one way links to your site.
5. Most article directory websites store submitted articles in their archives. Since the search engine spiders love content, these sites are crawled often. This means YOU will benefit from the traffic and hyperlinks from each of your archived articles on their website.
6. The more articles you consistently write and distribute, the more you will become known as an expert for your home based business. The more you provide informative articles, your business will be given extra credibility which will help you to compete against your competition.
7. The more exposure your articles get for you, the more you will see your content showing up all over the Internet. Increasing the level of awareness and popularity builds credibility. Increased credibility may lead to requests to write other articles and improved sales of your product or service./
8. The more articles that you submit to major article directories, the more likely your content will be used for wider publication. The main reason why this occurs is because many newsletter and ezine publishers like to use article directories to search for good quality content for their articles.
9. Adding content that is useful for both the readers and to the search engines will gain in your website popularity. In Summary, make sure each article is written to inform and appeal to the reader, so that they are getting useful information from you. once you start writing articles, be more systematic about submitting new ones on a regular basis so they built momentum.

What an excellent article, or at least it should be. I'd publish it.
You are correct that Article Writing and Marketing are some of the best ways to promote yourself, products or services.
I would like to caution everyone though to read the Terms of Service on web sites that you plan to submit your articles to.
Recently I had two associates that didn't and they are now paying for that mistake. Their articles are being used in all kinds of ways, on all kinds of sites, that they never intended and in some cases they are not getting credit for even writing the articles.
So, if a site has no TOS, and you really want your articles to appear there, get something in writing from the web site owner first.
Look for the bad TOS that takes your copyright or for ones that allow the owners to do anything they want to do with the articles you submit.
A good TOS will protect you (the writer) and the web site by having strict usage terms. They should always include verbiage saying that all links in the resource box will stay live, so that the writer benefits from the back links. They should also state that you retain all copyrights to your content.
They should not say things like...
"All content submitted to this site becomes the property of this site and we can alter, change or rewrite it as we see fit."
If you decide to use article submission services or software, check the TOS on the sites that the company or software submits to BEFORE you submit.
Article writing and marketing can bring you a lot of traffic and result in increased income if you know how to do it right and what to look for BEFORE you start.

hi Angela,
thanks for the warning. I never took note until now regarding this kind of TOS. thats a weird TOS for those who want to submit their own articles. But you're right. I'm using three different article submission directories and have not this issue so far. The more widely used on that directory and more well-known authors the less issues like that will crop up.

there's a lot of budding writer's now who is just getting to joining the chip off the block.
I suggest that whenever you write an article be sure that its contents are original too like was said "in order to be a step ahead of your competition". This gives readers the impression that you are unique and thats what makes you special.

Great article!
I've wrote two articles myself and in a weeks time I noticed incoming traffic from them (easy, my traffic is on the low numbers).
The frustrating thing about it is that it takes a lot of time especially when you're not english speaking. I would love a software in which you could write in your own language and have the whole article translated.

janos, you could actually submit your articles for re-write at certain ghostwriters whom you hire from elance or scriptlance for a small fee.
Like this, you don't need to purchase a software. There are still some but I always believed in human eyes when it comes to writing.

I liked this article too!
Who ever wrote knows what they are talking about.
Article writting is good source of traffic, if you got the time to do them, atleast try one a week if you don't have much time.
However try to be original as search engines are good at spoting duplicates, and you don't want your name to be linked with words such as "copy cat"?
Its OK to take some ideas from other people but DONT over do it!

| Yes writing aritcles is a great way to drive traffic. I write and submit an article once a day. The free traffic you will get is awesome. I also agree on blogging and posting your articles on your blog. Another great method is submitting press releases.

Really great tips thomasnagus.
I like to make this a part of my DMO...Daily Method of Operation...along with regular blogging and adding content to my site.
Sometimes I have trouble coming up with ideas, so I will browse article directory's to see what other people are writing about and "put in my own .02".
Another good source of article ideas for me is topical news. For example, recent news about e coli in spinach can spark an article about the need for vitamin supplements.
