My question is how does a person get started with article marketing I've heard the importance of it from numerous sources. I also understand the viral aspect of it and how important that can be in your marketing efforts. I just don't know how to go about writing an article should I use plr articles and then break those articles down and compose my articles any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have written and published over 150 articles.  Here are some thoughts on article marketing.

What do you think?

In order to generate strong traffic for your website through network marketing article marketing, you need to optimize your articles. Even if you have a well-researched and well-structured article, you will not get a positive nod from your market if it still has an foreign feel for them. That is why it is important to learn the culture of your target market to make them feel that what you have written is especially for them.

To increase the exposure and performance of your network marketing articles, here are twelve elements to follow:

1) The article should have zero self serving links in the article body..

2) The article should have no more than two self serving links in the resource box.

Your resource box at the bottom of your article should be short, sweet, succinct, to the point, and be less than 10% of the total word count of your article.

3) Is the article short (no more than 500 to 550 words)? If so, great.

4) Your article should deliver quality original content with numbered lists, bullet points or easy to glean information that their audience would find valuable.

Make sure your articles are 100% original content. Anything less is really an insult.

There are many other considerations that publishers look for, such as

5)  Are you well recognized or respected within your market niche?. If so, excellent!

6)  Relevancy of the article to the ezine publisher's core focus

7)  Timing of the article and its relevance to current market dynamics

8)  Grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure are perfect

9)  Simple, clean, neat and no abuse of the bold/italics/underline attributes

10) Formal approach to the article vs. blogging loose style

11) How well referenced the article is

12) No excessive use of keywords and no keyword stuffing

Write at least 100 or more articles to solidly establish your credibility. I have written over 150 articles and get hits and sign ups from them every day.

Jon

That was a very well written post. I can see why you've written over 150 articles. :)

Just a comment, besides not being too long articles shouldn't be too short either. I think over 250 or 300 words is a good minimum size. And as you mentioned 500 words is a good maximum.

Hello!

This is an excellent post. Well written, gives great advice. If you are a writer, follow the above tips and you will succeed.

I believe that everything should be automated. I am more involved talking with folks that have responded to my ads/forums/Articles than I am taking the time out of my most important activity: SELLING.

Therefore look for ways to automate everything, including having "Ghost Writers" do your articles for you. I want to surround myself with people that are much better than me...doing the things that they are good at.

This leaves me time to do what I am good at.

Tim

I have been using articles for a little while and what Jon wrote is so key.  Things like grammar, a clean look, easy to read, sand no keyword stuffing are so important to have a successful article.

Great article, I agree with you 100% and have noticed from many of my sites that most of my traffic comes from article submissions.
BTW How many articles do you recommend posting per month or week.
I have heard 1 per day for 30 days then 2-3 per week.
What is your take on that?

Articles have been a great way for me to get lot's of free traffic and there are so many different ways that you can apply them right from getting the traffic from the article directory all the way to having them get listed in a search engine for a strong keyword.

Either way, they can produce a lot of power for your main site.
