I wrote my first article a few days ago and posted it on several article sites. Doing some google searches today to see if it has spread, I found the article on several websites with NO CREDIT to me or back link to my website, even though the article clearly states to reproduce it you must include the credits and link!

On a couple of the sites there was no way to contact the website owner or blogger to inform them of their copywrite infringements =/

Greetings RichTank,

That stinks!

I did a search on Google for
"find web host" + "copyright violation"    [include ALL "  "]
and this one link came up. Very good information.

I hope this helps.

Please post your results on this thread.

Andreas.

I was actually able to track down his myspace page today. I sent him a message through there and I'm hoping he responds. If he adds the proper credits I'm happy to let him keep the article up.

The blog author never responded directly to my email but I just checked his blog and he added in a link to http://www.richtank.com. He didn't include my entire resource box, but I think I can live with that ;)

Thats bad.  I'm curious what directories did you use.  Can you list some of them for us so we can watch out for that.
Thanks,

Well I think it is quite good that people are stealing your articles and submitting them, but yes this is only good if they acknowledge you. It's a GREAT was for getting some free traffic to your website.

Don't worry if they steal your exact content and don't acknowledge they didn't write it, google and the other search engines will eventually find out and make sure they don't rank highly in the search engines.

So don't be worried about them :)

As long as the articles include your back links, and the content isn't changed enough to make a difference, would it not still help you?

I think that your article must be clever to have someone steal it and try and make it their own which I think could be the only explaination. So I think that you should pat yourself on the back. Just know that this is quite a common occurence and happens quite allot in this modern times with internet and websites that within minutes of you posting an article someone can see it and who knows what happens after that.

No.  A backlink isn't good enough.  What has happened is they have stolen your material plain and simple.  If anything, ask them to either pay you for usage rights or remove the article.

There are exceptions if you just want to generate some traffic.  Highly populated blogs will get you quite a bit but Bob's Raccoon site won't.  Use your judgement.

Thats really fishy and icky to me. Can you imagine all that hard work you put into something just to have someone or several people copy and and claim it for thier own.

I'd really get fustrated with that situation. OUCH!

That's just wrong. If they are getting an RSS feed and you know the source, I might complain to that source. Perhaps they can nudge the site owner.

Stealing of content is rife on the internet this day and age. It's something that you have to live with, although not happy about it, it's just how things are.

Unfortunately this is just something that comes with the Territory of Article Marketing.  I often do searches on my articles only to find out that no credit is given where credit is due.

I usually leave comments on the blog (if available) letting them know that I was there and noticed I didn't get my credit.  :X

The bad part is you can either waste more time emailing people and trying to track them down or take it as a compliment in your writing and get back to work.

Just take it in stride. Its all apart of online marketing. Ive seen a few webmasters try to "reword" my articles as their own, or sometimes just steal it. Just keep writing new articles and submitting to the directories. Your backlinks will continue to build and so will your search engine rankings

Well I know that many blog owners and websites owners just steal our articles. Actually sometimes they make few changes to avoid Google's penalty but there are some tools which is good to find it like CopyScape.com

CopyScape.com is best site find our copy and if you found them then inform about same to their web host so they can take any action against blog owners. It happened with me and I am glad that hosting company suspended his blog.

The bottom line is if you use article marketing even a little bit, it will happen to you sooner or later. Yes it's stealing and yes it's against copyright law but you will drive yourself crazy worrying about it. Take the time you would spend chasing them down and worrying about them stealing your articles and write even more articles. You will be the one that comes out on top. Unscrupulous people will always be stealing in every venue. That's just the way it is. Don't let it get to ya.

Its just done way too easily, and the bad part is that if its reblogged from someone who reblogged too the wrong person may get the credit.

Hi,

I have not written an article yet, but was still sorry to hear that those things are happening.  I am not aware of the process yet, but am very keen to learn and work up to that process, knowing and understanding the benefits.

But I was just thinking.... and I'm not sure what normal procedure is while writing articles online... and, I am not a lawyer, but...I hold two patents: one utility and one design and have gone through much research before and during each process.

And although written material does not warrent a patent, it can be copyrighted. In fact the copyright laws are very clear and probably more protective than patents, the term lasting 95 years after publcation(if registered).  However, writing online may have it's own bylaws.  I know it would not be feasible to register material posted in each article online.....

but, if one were to place the Copyright 2009 by (your name) in that order, it might help.  It will not cover you internationally unless registered, but might just help -communicating to all - that you are aware of your rights.  Of the articles I have read online, I did not notice any such markings on many.

Some keyboards allow you to type in the symbol (my old Dell keyboard did).  My new Kensington, obviously does not.

These are just thoughts, again, I am not a lawyer.  But, I do know how it feels to have concepts, ideas, and designs taken, and then see them manufactured by well known companies.  It is a lousy feeling.  Just be clear in your mind knowing that you are the creator, and as others have said, it must have been pretty good stuff to have been noticed and taken.  Take solace in knowing that you will benefit within the community that knows you and your work. And never allow them to curtail your motivation.  People will look to you for inspiration if you continue writing such good stuff.  And continue to verbalize when you need to do so; this is what we are all here for...support.
