I just wrote an article today that I have posted on a number of article websites (like ezinearticles.com), and I posted it here on the forum, too.
For those wondering how to write articles to make money, this article is a good one. It meets a need. It is especially unique, because as of right now, googling the name of the company brings back nothing. So in a few days at least one of my articles will probably be showing up at the top of google. It also provides helpful information.
I have a way of writing articles that is simple and straightforward. I start with an introduction. This could be as short as a simple paragraph, or in the example above, a story. Then I list the points I am going to make, and then expound each point. This makes it easy for someone who wants to scan the article quickly (the majority of surfers are going to scan first and will only read in detail if it catches their attention). Then I write some kind of conclusion.
I didn't include it in the forum, but in my bio on the other sites I linked to a site that sells a mystery shopping directory (the one I used when I mystery shopped). If any article I have ever written will make me money, I am sure this one will. I also included a link to a blog I did about another work-at-home opportunity, which has links in it to other money-making opportunities. This works well for places like ezinearticles.com which don't allow any affiliate links even in bios.
I'm by no means an expert in article marketing, but if this can help someone, great. I don't write a lot of articles, because I'd rather write 3 good ones than 30 inferior ones.

Good tips. One thing to do before you start writing away is to think about the keywords you want to focus on and use them in your title and through out your article. Don't over do it but use the keywords you are focusing on a few times.

That example is pretty good, except I have a tip for you, I see after you have your subheadings some of your paragraphs are extremely long. Try making your paragraphs 1-2 sentences long.
I've done testing and I found short paragraphs keep the reader on your website longer.

Thank you for the tip. I tend to be a bit wordy, but I can cut down where needed. Good criticism is always appreciated.

Thank you for sharing some great ideas about writing articles.
I write about two articles per week because, like you, I would prefer to spend some time developing quality articles that the readers will get a benefit from.
I have found that sometimes I get a better response when I lead with a title like "4 Excellent Ways To ...." or "5 Tips For ....". As has been mentioned, many readers want their information in short bites rather than a long discussion.
Also, I like to write self help articles for the beginner to help them deal with the frustration of getting started. I have had some good responses from these as well.
Good luck with your articles.
John

Yes, I think that using a list of suggestions is always a good idea. I read recently that some of the most "dugg" articles and blog posts were ones of this type. People find step by step "how to" information very appealing and they are also more likely to use social bookmarking to pass it on to others.
