I second that AMEN!  You will do much better posting to forums if you offer constructive advice and information that will actually be of a benefit to someone versus one more spam post on a list of thousands that no one cares about.

If you want to know how to become a successful business owner, build an organization and make life changing money, seek out someone who knows how and learn the right way to get the job done!

I'm here to help!

Rex

Great topic, micheal.

Spam sucks, big time.

But the problem is that the newbies have all been told by their upline to 'share' their biz opp to just about any corner of the Internet, and that includes the forums.

Without proper coaching, these poor newbies will be just advertising their biz opps and breaking all the rules in the forums.

They have to be educated very quickly, and it starts from their upline.

Rgds,

Wyatt

It's really the disease of this industry.  People are being mislead, just like whizzer says in his post.  Sponsors and even so called "mentors" are not teaching people the right way.

Take the time to learn friends!  Seek out those who actually know how!  Telling people about your business opportunity is a road to failure in this industry... so take the time to learn the right way to get the job done!

Cheers!

Rex

In reading allot of posts to this website and mind you I am really new and only I am a couple of days old as a member to this site I am finding that most of the members have been quite helpful and insightful and abide to the forum rules.

This is a business discussion group and all being home based businesses there really is no other way to get so many ideas to help you with your business all in one spot. What works and what doesn't all in the one place anytime day or night. We all have odd hours and have noone else to run our businesses but us, so therefore the flexibility of being able to research topics and take ideas to help you grow is fantastic and I hope to have this work for me for many many more years to come.

Hey rexharris,

Like what you've mentioned, it's really the disease of this industry.

I have been sending emails to my downline regularly to warn them of the dangers of spamming and blatant advertising in forums, and teaching them the right way of doing it.

Every responsible upline sponsor should take the time to educate their team members on this topic.

To the top,

Wyatt

I couldn't agree more!  People just don't understand the damage they will do to their reputation by keeping up with bad marketing practices.

People wonder why it takes so long to make even a little money online?  It's because their marketing practices are nothing short of horrible.

Seek out a coach and mentor who will show you the right way!

Cheers!

Rex

In the real world, we hear terms like rogue traders, errant cab drivers, crappy agents...

In the online world, its spam, spam and more spam.

Just like the mosquitoes and cockroaches of this world, spam is impossible to eradicate totally.

But what we can do is to contain it by educating the people around us in this industry, and if need be, give the offenders a kick in their teeth.

I agree whole-heartedly. Now, about the If you offer a tool, coment. What if that tool itself has an affiliate ability with it.  If it's valuable and can streamline your marketing efforts, is it ok to share it? I know of such a tool, i use it and it is very effective for me, but it does allow affiliate profits if someone sees it through me and signs on to use it. Would you care to clarify that for me? The last thing i want to do in here is violate the forum rules by attempting to collect customers or distributors. I am genuinely interested in learning from all you pros, in here. I'm not in here to try to recruit people away from whatever they are doing. I enjoy reading up on the different businesses you are all in, and i am some of you will do the same with mine. But as for active recruiting, i agree with the forum's policy. I have learned much in the short time i have been in this forum. I plan to stick around and soak up all i can from you veterans.

Phil,

I'll just "repeat myself" here....hopefully it'll help with your question.  ;)

"The thread was meant as somewhat of a tongue in cheek attempt to get a point across....and vent a little.

The constant biz op ads and trolling in here are not only an obvious violation of Forum policy....but just don't make good marketing sense. [they're also a real time consuming pain in the butt to monitor and delete/ban]

You're advertising to folks who HAVE a business (most of them anyway). Now if someone wants another revenue stream....or is looking for a change....attracting them to "you" via your personality and helpfulness in the Forum (sic reputation) is a far better way than spamming or trolling to find potential partners. From both the seeker and the potential sponsor perspective. That's what your sigline is for.

As for promoting a product or service though....I see nothing wrong with that myself. Everyone can find something they can use from other Networkers. If shared appropriately and where appropriately (our Service and Product ad boards).

I just get annoyed with continual offenders (particularly those who post under multiple aliases) employing the 2x4 between the eyes screaming a biz op in my face.....or the "look at this what do you think" or "gee look what we just did" trolling.... especially when it drips of hype and greasy used car salesmanship.

Sets a poor example for Forum visitors too...they may think it's "OK". Or get taken in by the less than professional/honorable marketing method. Not a good way to find a biz or a sponsor.

Anyway....might not do any good but it felt better to vent it. If just 1 person learns something useful it'll all be worthwhile."

God Bless,
Michael

Amen, brother. I think the single greatest harm it does is to reinforce negative shady marketing methods. We all want to share our opportunities, and according to Mike Dillard and others, our true target market is people who are already in or have been in MLM, either people who have not given up on MLM but are disatisfied with thier company, or people who as you put it, are wanting to branch out and have additional streams of income. Those are legitimate marketing efforts, but they have to be done the right way. In here, its pretty simple. Add value by being a member, and use a simple sig file, and people will become attracted to you, and want to know what you are into. Now, as to the "tool" i mentioned, i believe i will share it in the products and services area. It is a great little tool. Thanks.

I have to agree with michael that people in forums are more interested in tools and resources that can actually solve problems.

If you have solutions for people who don't know how to drive traffic to their sites, or those who cannot recruit a single soul, etc. then you are in demand, and people will be interested to know how you can solve their problems.

To the top,

Wyatt

Hey jdrivers,

There is actually an advertising section in this forum where you can do all your advertising for your products and services.

But read this carefully: only products and services; no business opportunities.

Wyatt

My advice to people is to NOT promote your business directly to people online. I have always stood by this rule. People DONT like the hard sell, no matter what you are selling.

Its all about building relationships and people will want to buy if they trust the seller. The first thing people should be thinking about is building relationships and offering value to the community.

Once that happens, ONLY THEN will people take note of what you are actually selling. Although once you have built up the initial relationship with the person or members on a forum, they dont see it as if you are selling something, they see you offering value to them and will be much more interested.

Im not sure exactly about this forum's signature rules, but many forums dont allow signatures until members have posted 10-20 posts. I guess that main reason people use forums is to use a signature link, but the difference between savvy people and newbies is that they know how to do this and to not abuse the system.

Successful Internet Marketers are the people who know this, and they take time to build up relationships with people, offering value to the community.

I own a forum in another Industry and the thing I dislike the most is when a new member comes to the forum, replies to about 5 threads with 4-5 word answers and then leaves a link at the bottom or in the signature. Its fairly obvious why that person is on the forum.

The other problem is that much of this type of work is outsourced to link building companies who specialise in forum marketing. All they do is sign up as a member, create a profile and then write 4-5 word replies leaving a link to their clients website etc.

They may get a few clicks to their website if they follow this approach, but if you do it the right way people will start to see that you actually know what you are talking about and will want to join what you are doing. Therefore people should educate themselves more about the topic they are promoting, before they actually promote.

Just my two pennies worth :-)
