Hi all,
I found this topic very interesting because I was having the "same thought".
After thinking through, I realised that any online marketer that is successful is more than a marketer. This person need to be a good trainer who can share knowledge. This person also need to have good interpersonal skills so that when he or she goes on stage, people would be attracted to them. Not withstanding, having a good skills as a trainer would definite advantage.
More than this, a successful online marketer has to be like a superstar, like a movie star or singer. The traffic is actually the Fan Club. The Fan Club keep buying new release of the singer, keep watching the latest movie.
Successful singer also is a successful song writer, also a succesful actor. The same applies to a succesful online marketer, he must be good at online interaction, must be good at face to face session such as at internet summit or training session, must be also good at writing or at least put the idea onto paper, must have good voice to produce audio, must have good looks to produce likeable video

Going along with that thought... I remember years ago I wrote an article on different singers/entertainers promoting different marketing.
I remember discussing, "Anybody Can Be A Good Singer", but it takes serious marketing to promote his/her advantages.
Lycos published an interesting case study. For example, they foun Brittany Spears always being searched online while Jennifer Lopez was searched during her promotion things like her perfume, new song, her new clothing line etc...
Personally, I thought they would be just as popular, but from the study, they report the market reacts very differently.
Bringing back to the MLM side of the topic... MLM giants in every company has a tool or two to promote his/her leadership traits. Legends like Dexter Yeager, Brian Tracy, Robert Allen all were skilled at promoting themselves before their opportunity and their prospects and teams were more compelled to be a part of their tribes, hoping their credibility will rub off.
I remember attending to Robert Allen's real estate workshop years ago I saw it advertised in the local paper. It showed as he was going to be the guest speaker although he never came.
So I went there and patiently attended and listened to every stream of income they explained and the final presentation was on network marketing.
They were singing up like... 25 people right there on the spot because all the things they were presenting about wealth, health, money all built value before the actual MLM presentation were given.
And all of the speakers belonged to one MLM company and they all belonged to the same organization (no, it wasn't Robert Allen's USANA but it was about Melaleuca).
And they told me how they were repeating in every city they visit. They fly, and present on generic-non-MLM money making stuff and sell those books and tapes and at the end, they also talk on MLM.
But to make the long story short, yes, these people knew how to sell themselves first and their credibility just outsold the opportunity and people just bought whatever they were promoting.

I agree and have found the best way to build your business & enterprise is to put others first and build relationships. It is the best feeling to establish solid relationships, add value and make a difference in lives of others.
It is always great to be "Other Focused" and everything else takes care of itself.

michael I couldnt agree more
I am on myspace and had a friendship request and also a message
on this profile he had business after business banner , youtube vids from someone else
and he also wanted me to as he says take a look at his business
it says on my profile im already in sfi and cognigen
so does he honestly think im gonna just jump ship on the recomendation of a stranger.
however another sides just as bad
masses of people promoting joe schroeders books, and products with the same tired old emails he promoted years ago
also promoting seminars by other people
im finding more and more people just wanna act like robots pull the lever and out pours cash
makes me very very sad , as i for one dont think thats what joe schroeder envisioned

I agree, Aniko. Putting others first and building lasting, trusting relationships is the way to build business. Others must feel that this "relationship" benefits them too, instead of benefitting only oneself.

I believe i can brand myself by just being myself. I think this is alot better then throwing away good money on worthless books i have recieved from a few of these funded proposal companies. I learned i have to teach myself to become a leader,lucky i foudn one in my mlm company, yes branding is important but also action also has to happen. They say making phone calls to leads is bad,no it isnt,I have learned more from doing that and if you have the right personality and practice you become good on the phone. I found out doing that or three months i became good at it. I had a leader who wouldnt let me quit and I am glad he didnt. I learned how to handle every personality mean,nice,lazy and so on and so forth, the phone is the best tool to use. I also have learned voice broadcasting and it has been awesome,reaching more people in less time and then when i talk to them it is so easy to do. I tell my people never give up on your dreams,good training and practive can build into a great business. There are no shortcuts. what i dont lie about funded proposals,they dont bring in those quality leads. Alot of people i talk to has a business,it isnt targeted. I found myself aisting my time on promoting the funded proposal company and not building my own business,just my experience is all

I have searched the net for opportunities for the last couple of months. I have compared products and training, support, and the rest - and something I notice about everyone who appears to have great success is branding.
They dont use a replicated page themselves, although they offer their branded page to everyone in their downline. It would appear that the key to success is branding - setting yourself apart from the rest. I have thought about how you can do this;
-Video of you on your page so people get to know you
-Have some type of story [I started there, now im here, this is how I did it]
-Some type of claim stating you have something different, that other people dont have yet (like a marketing system, adwords, 1on1 coaching, etc... offer something of value to "guarantee" success in your program
-Proof of income, or personal training products for sale
Am I right here? This stuff coupled with a good copy and some advertising would get you noticed in a hurry. Anyone care to contribute?

Very well articulated Rob. I couldn't agree more. You not only need to sell yourself you need to brand yourself and this comes by posting in forums, reading motivational self help books, being a product of the product, by someone asking you why do I have to do this, or why do need to do this instead of that first? You joined 3 weeks ago so do you wing it and try to act smart and guess. NO, NO, NO "Always, Always say "Good Question and I'll have the answer for you tomorrow can I reach you at this e-mail address or would you rather I call you? Whens the best time I can show you the answer to your question? Is Tuesday at 10am good or is the evenings better? Great I operate by appointments you know so I'll have the correct answer to your important question Tuesday at 8pm is that Eastern or Central time I get confused, lol

Yet another great topic and thread in this great forum.
It is very true and often overlooked. Too many marketers promote the products and the opportunity at the expense of promoting and branding themselves.
We know that top income earners build their real targeted list of marketing leads by marketing training information to other marketers. So, as this list continues to grow you must build relationships with your subscribers. Some of those marketers on your list will want to join you in your business.
Offering a solution for building a successful mlm business, is a great way to generate your own mlm leads. When you become a person of value by offering useful content and solutions, you will attract people to you.
It is the essence of attraction marketing and it starts with branding yourself. It's great if a prospect joins your opportunity, but for long term success and retention of your downline, you want your prospect to join your business because of you and what you bring to the table.
Obviously, the product(s) have to be marketable and in demand and the company has to be solid with a genuine opportunity and multiple ways to earn income. But, when you brand yourself as that person of value that puts helping people ahead of recruiting and selling you earn the trust and build that relationship, then you will have a team that WILL duplicate and grow.

There is only one thing that will remain constant throughout your lifetime and that is you. Business' they come and go, some faster than others. Specifically in online marketing there can be several highticket/low ticket popular business. People may be attracted to the business and want to be in that business.
So this is what it comes down to......
The only truly important gift that you have to offer the world is you. So the world or more in paticular for this scenario...the marketplace...needs to know what you can do for them. How can you help them? Why should they join the business under you? What do you have to offer them that other people and the business can not?
The importance of branding yourself to be an authority in the marketplace is critical. The marketplace is made up of primarily consumers who have the mindset of.... what can this do for me? And there is nothing wrong with that. But since we can see the need, let's fill it. Do you want to be the person who leads with their opportunity or products saying these are the best, this is what you need. Or do you want to say, I can help you get to where you want to go, would you like me to help you to success?
As the businesses fade and change in online marketing, you will want to already have established yourself as a brand and leader so that people will keep faith in you and follow you where you go. You can build faith in people by relating to them, helping them, sharing with them, and just being yourself...... and not some walking advertisement saying you got to join this business it is so hot right now.
Be your own brand. Be a leader. Show people how they can be successful and they will follow you for life.
