msmelanie,
If you are interested in doing some tracking, you might could you use Ad Minder. I just finished an ebook with some techniques of tracking. Within your articles, you could put links that might give you some idea.
They may be worth aleast looking into.

The problem I've had is how to track which publications actually generate the most leads. I have many domain names that are very descriptive and inspire people to click - but I still dont have enough to cover every place could submit to. If I chose to simply track clicks, then I could use a tracking url - but then I'd lose the impact of a good domain name.
Honestly, I don't track which sites generate the most leads. I use a program that submits to about 200 article sites and then I focus on just writing. You can PM me for the URL.

I don't think that I seen anyone talk about this, but just by putting you information in to the signature of your email will go a long way. Now everytime you send out an email, people can see your links.
I also just got some free business card from Vista Print. I am going to begin passing them out.
Another source of advertising is through blogs. Set on up and add content to it daily. Then submit it to blog directories.

Free and low cost ways to advertise.
#1 - mailing to my LIST!
I've been building a list for about a year now. These people are by far the most responsive to my ads.
My top freebies:
sig files
networking sites
forum sigs
free solo ads
Low cost:
solo ads
I spend less than $200 per month on advertising. Most of that money is spent on google. I keep my price per click low and use really targeted keywords. I also limit my campaigns so that they stay within my budget.
Every couple of months I buy a cheap genealogy list and pump them through my autoresponder to generate live leads and incoming calls.
I may well increase my budget that over the next few months as my income allows, but I quite like generating leads for free or very cheap!

Hello!
Just go to a search engine and key in something like, "free advertising", then click search, and you get all kinds of results. Good luck and best wishes in your efforts.
Thanks and God Bless,

One other great way to market for free is through press releases. A lot of people think that these don't work, however I have used them to get some great exposure with several businesses.
Check out http://www.prweb.com/ where you can find how to write a good PR as well as post it on their site for free.

Hey melanie,
nice sharing. I also believe in your concept and ppc definitely needs your own specific fine tuning doesn't it to be effective. Generally, its always about being in the desired postion for the postion.
How many keywords you have and what's your budget on the max bids so far ?

Alot of good tips here. I think the most important thing to remember is to try and have a well rounded marketing campaigne. Free, low budget ... what ever you can do but the biggest denominator is consistancy.

Press releases are a great idea. We have gone this route and have found that it doesn't take long for the press releases to propagate and be picked up everywhere. Remember, people subscribe to certain keywords on Google News and so your press releases, if applicable, may benefit from that.

This sort of reminds be of TrafficSwarm, which we have used. The problem I find is that while you do get traffic, it's not targeted, and people only visit your site to earn credits from themselves. So as for actually turning this traffic into leads or sales... I'd say it's not very helpful.
Just my $0.02.

Thats correct - peolple click on adds to earn credits - BUT - I know I only click on adds that have some interest to me. I would imagine that those who are free members and have to click to earn credits do the same, no?

Oh sure, no doubt people do that. I have just noticed that the clickthrus we get are in and out. I'm not saying it's totally useless, but I think it's more of a stats booster than a sales booster!

Yeah I'm sure that its mostly stats anyway. However, to me its just simple :
the conversion rate in traffic exchanges are relatively lower than paid advertisings

Hi!
Yes, I have used it for a while now, and no sign ups yet.
By far the most powerful way for me has been solo ads in differnet
Ezines.
Sincerely
Henrik

Hi all, I have read some good thoughts on this topic..but what I have learned is to get your link recognised by other sites, top ranking ones...I have a link program that works like a gem..I have only been a month doing it and I have 50 members in my downline already..I have also put ads in newspapers, and continue to do that, and of course I have a website but not much experience there..but im always learning..

Henrik,
you're right but then again, ezine ads do cost you some money and its only via testing with various ones that will give you a real-time discovery of which ones are giving you more responses and also a good copy is equally important.
Good move on the ezine ads.
Ps : though its not relatively low cost or free.

If you're oriented more towards online promotion vice print media or meetings, and you have very little to no money to spend on advertising, you might want to take a look at traffic exchanges. Most are free to join (although to get better bang for your buck, you should upgrade) and allow your site to be seen by other 'surfers' for anywhere from 15-30 seconds.
Traditionally, business opportunities don't fare too well in this medium because other surfers are trying to sell their stuff as well, but marketing tools do well. I occassionally advertise my Magnetic Sponsoring catch pages this way, and I get decent returns.
These are the three that I use (normally ranked within the top 5 for general usage):
1. http://www.ts25.com/
2. http://WebBizInsider.com/
3. http://trafficg.com/
Just keep in mind that it will take time to market this way, but it won't cost you a cent.
Yours in Greater Success,
Merideth
