Hi Vern,

Yes looking for a mentor is a very good idea. The reason been that the mentor is where you want to be so they can advise and guide you along.

In a way, this can be viewed as a new "skill" to be learned, although in my opinion it is something we were all born with and most of us learn to repress as a pain avoidance mechanism.I recently attended a seminar in which one of the speakers described watching his daughters learning to walk. What amazed him is that they kept getting up and trying, after falling down repeatedly. It apparently did not occur to them that they couldn't learn to walk - and of course they did.BillI remember when I was about to "quit", it was...

... right when I first started out about 2 - 3 years ago when I struggled to make a dime.

I was in an business opportunity, I was following everything I was told to do, but for some reason it wasn't "clicking".

What changed?

Well to make a long story short, it was when I finally decided to "train" and "educate" myself on how to really build a business successfully and who I needed to become in order to be a success.

And I think this is one of the reasons most people "QUIT" and throw in the towel. Because they haven't learned the skills needed to be successful.

For anyone making substantial money here, I'm pretty sure you'd agree that you need a certain level of skill set before you can "really" make it in this business. Whether it's from books, seminars, training materials, CD's or from the school of hard knocks or maybe a little bit of both, learning new skills is the only way you're going to be successful at anything, and network marketing is no different.

So if you're about to quit or on the verge of throwing in the towel, my advice - learn some new skills that'll help take your business to the next level.

And this forum is a good place to start, it's filled with successful people with tons of skills that you can learn from and apply to your business, or at the very least they can point you in the right direction of some great training material that has helped them build their skill set.

So if you or somebody you know has ever thought about quitting, my advice - learn a new skill.

Well, that's my two cents.

I'd love to hear about what helped other people who were about "quit" but didn't.

- Richard

What great words of advice.  Why reinvent the wheel?  I have been "taught"  to simply copy what other successful people have done and have learned alot from my mentors.

This forum is also an excellent place to learn from others.

The networking marketing industry is not easy, so many people quit when they get a few nos or get beaten up.  Haveing mentors sure helps.

I agree.  I've seen people who have only been at it for about a week and give up.  :(  I hate to see that because it's actually unnecessary.  Persistence is so important, especially regarding marketing.  Often people don't reply to any ad, etc., until they've seen it a number of times.

Hi Tony,

let me help you to answer that.

mainly because while they have the drive
and a mentor. But they also need to have
an accountability between the mentor and
themselves.

For instance, my mentor questions what I've
been doing, how it's done, what was the result
and also how to improve go to further.

This keeps you on your feet and of course,
100% of your success is directly related to you.

Your mentor does not do your work, you pursue and
seek guidance.

I agree jonroussel. I have been taught the same thing. Constantly in training my mentor and other top leaders say "Why reinvent the wheel." Everyone needs mentors. They have been where we are and know how to get to where we want to be. Duplication! When I worked a ft job as a paralegal, my attorneys had other partners as their mentors. This was how they learned and this is how we learn also.

To expand a bit on the story about children learning to walk...

It did not occur to them that they couldn't learn to walk because everyone else was doing it. Unfortunately, as we go through life the number of examples we have of what is truly possible to achieve diminishes. So many people allow themselves to surrender to mediocrity that we can point in almost any direction and encounter despair.

We need to focus on and surround ourselves with those whose lives provide positive examples of what can be achieved...this practice will serve to reduce and eventually eliminate the limitations that we have allowed others to place on our incredible potential.

That's great advice!
If there is one thing I've learned through trying to make a living online is that people will get discouraged SO fast. Faster than in any other business. Your friends will ridicule you and probably think you are wasting your time. But you know what? Use their skeptisism as your motivation! Succeed so that you can say 'I told you so.' And then when they see that you have succeeded maybe they will want to try it, and then you can help them along. Help yourself succeed so that you can help others succeed.

Well spoken! I couldn't agree more. I know my friends and family have been skeptical and that's ok. It drives me even harder. I see all this business has to offer. Like I've said, dedication, belief in what you do, and consistency are the keys!

Whatever you vividly imagine, ardently desire, sincerely believe and enthusiastically act upon must inevitably come to pass.

I understand the use of others' skepticism as a motivator - I indulge myself in the "I told you so" fantasy from time to time, but try to stay focused on the positive as much as possible. It just works better for me.

I love it! Instead of taking the weak way out, we take responsibility for our own success - we all must not play the blame game.  There are those that join our opportunity and hit the highest levels of success in no time.  What's the difference between what those phenom's and spectators?  Pure desire, belief, and hunger!

- Keep it going!

Wise words from Buddha:

Watch your thoughts: They become your words
Watch your words: They become your actions
Watch your actions: They become your habits
Watch your habits: They become your character
Watch your character: It becomes your destiny

All the wise man did not want us to quit.

They knew throught their own experience that the road is not easy but it is definitely achievable.

I think it is because they already see their future in their thoughts. They have condition their mind to attract opportunities and prosperity. They have put in necessary action to achieve results in their lives.

They all know the power of law of attraction and so did Buddha.

So don't quit, don't even think about it. What you think most becomes the reality. If you have trouble practicing law of attraction, then read up books, reports etc. This will help you to achieve more in your business.

:)Hi Everyone,

I am kind of feeling vulnerable about a lot of things like negative thoughts and trying to keep remind myself that I have to be patient and keep going at it. I have read and heard about others who had started out with less computer skills and MLM experience than me and they have reached success.......so I should stay focus and continue to believe it's going to happen for me too as long as I work hard and apply the tools and skills I learn from others each day.

You are so valid, and I am totally still at that stage, considered that I am a newbie with little MLM and computer skills to begin with. It's very frustrating to go through this early stage of struggle. I keep having to go back to the training videos and recordings to get inspired by the people who have made it through the start to becoming successful. I hope I will get there too.

You will get there. I think we all have those days of feeling "vulnerable" and frustrated. I know I do. But quitting is not an option for me. You definitely will not get anywhere by quitting. Just like you, I have to take a step back sometimes a deep breath and get back to the basics. I truly believe that consistency, proper training, and continuous learning will get you to where you want to be.  As the saying goes, "anything worth having is worth working for."

Annie

P.S. Keep doing what you are doing.

When I first started looking for a home based business 4 years ago, the grass always looked greener on the other side, so to speak. I joined what seemed to be a great company, and then began getting  calls and offers for tons of opportunites that seemed better.

I did not want to become an "opportunity junkie", I had a friend who was that way and never met with success. But it was very confusing and it definitely made quitting an option.

I had to step back and really evaluate what I wanted from a home business. After I was clear on that, I began reading books by people who had achieved what I wanted and foloowed their advice as I began searching for something that was right for ME.

After becoming clear on what I wanted and what would get me there, quitting was just not an option! This is why I encourage people to get educated before they start.

I agree that education is very important. Continously learning from people who have achieved what you are wanting will only help you more. You must educate yourself in what you do.

Here's a new one.

I recently was doing tons of research and a batch of watching how other people achieve success. What hit me was that I myself began to see success when I quit watching other people and do what they do.

For instance, I sat down for like about 1 and a half hours through the night just mapping my goals. Phew. That shows how much I want and how much work I will need to get started.

So, here's my sage advice in this post.

Quit watching and admiring other people and do what they do.

Yup, no reading, watching or even talking. just do what they do.

Tough but it works.

Vern
