Have Enough Courage To Make It Happen
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 40 or so years, you have undoubtedly seen the Wizard Of Oz, with the Cowardly Lion. One of the morals of the story is the discovery that the Cowardly Lion had the courage inside of him all along, he just had never realized it before. Unfortunately, he had gone along for years thinking he lacked courage, and it took the unmagical power of the Great Oz to have him realize that there is no secret or magic potion, what he sought was already within him.
To market and sell products and services, it takes courage, and there should be no doubt in anyone's mind about that. If it was easy, then everyone would do it. It requires getting out of one's comfort zone, being able to accept "no" for an answer sometimes from a potential customer (even if it's your mother!), and to keep going with renewed enthusiasm to get the next customer.
One perspective from a local sales person who sells air conditioning units is that it is all statistics, and he says he only makes a sale for about 1 out of every 10 customers he talks to. So when you ask him if he is discouraged when he has gotten 9 consecutive "no" responses, he responds with enviable enthusiasm "heck no, that means one of the next couple is going to be a sale!"
Or when Thomas Edison was asked if he was discouraged after he had made 1000 failed attempts to create a light bulb, his infamous response was "of course not, I know now of 1000 ways that are not correct, which puts me very much closer to the right answer".
Failure is not an option unless you allow it to be, and nobody can make the decision to fail or to quit without wanting to. The reason you do what you do with your Cognigen business is to make your life better for yourself financially, and that cannot happen if you quit. Success does not come overnight -- if you require overnight financial success, you might want to be thinking about lottery tickets. But with lottery tickets, your chance of success is 1 in many MILLIONS, whereas your chance for success with Cognigen, if you stick with it, is almost in the bag.
Remember, you have a huge range of products and services that you can offer, prices that are incredibly low, and you are paid commission on the sale of these products and services. And with many of those sales, the commission is RESIDUAL, meaning you get paid every month for the customer's use of that service, like long distance, Packet8 VOIP, calling cards, and many more. You are in a great place at a great time.
But yes, it takes courage. Call up the courage that already exists within you and expand it. Develop the courage to take your business to the next level and have your commission check reflect that. In fact, NOW is a great time to put on that "full court press", since sales made this month will likely be reflected in your December or January commission check, just in time to pay off those Christmas bills.
As another network marketing program used to say, and the words hold true: "I will do today what others won't, so that I can have tomorrow what others don't". Think about it, then call up that courage to increase your commission check and grow your business as large as you want it to be. The only limit is your imagination. A plan combined with the courage to implement it is an unbeatable combination.

I know how long it takes to make these forum posts so I would just like to thank you for taking the time to post - your additions are always useful and well thought out.
When my courage wavers, I change my thinking to the point of view that the service/product I am offering is of fantastic benefit to the person I am offering it to. Not everbody will take me up on my offer but I am honestly trying to do people a favour by at least offering it.

| Whenever I doubt if my methods are still working, or whether I'm sure or not of what I am offering, I go back and realize all the benefits that are provided in whatever service that I decide to promote. I always am extremely careful when I decide to promote a product. I always go through my mind whether or not I myself would at least be interested in the service I'm providing. Anyway, that's how I keep my confidence when times get difficult. I try to keep my emotions on an even keel. Thank you. Daniel

The first thing that we must do is to find our "WHY"
As BoB Proctor said " find a goal now , so big that will excite and
frighten you at the same time"
when you find it it will be your compass or your "North Star"
and all the daily problems and fears will become minor.
take a time to find your goals in life and they will be your map
to where ever you want to go.

Your post is very encouraging Michael. I feel that taking the time to read these and other posts are doing a good job of helping me to transform my thinking so that indeed I will do what others won't so that I can have what others don't.

Michael,
Thank you for your post.
I have my why and goals posted right in front of my desk on a big dream board. Whenever I start having doubts or struggle, I remind myself why I want to build a business that will pay me a leveraged residual income that will last a lifetime.
I then remind myself it is my mission and duty to help other people reach their goals and to share my inbformation with them.
Not everyone will enroll, but for those who do I may be able to change their lives.

| Someone once told me to go into buisness with the mindset the you have a million dollars in the bank. This gives me a type of "courage". If you're not thinking about the money and just providing the information and mentoring than I am enjoying what I am doing. If you feel desperate, than you are focusing on negative aspects and you will not be able to help and educate others. It's a great feeling to have a "cushion" in the bank so you can just live and work. It all starts to fall into place when you have the right mindset and the courage that you know what you are doing and can share that with others. Once you have that confidence, you know it is OK that not everyone wants to capitalize on the same opportunity that you did. It's OK. We all take different paths and we always meet up with people along the way that have similar interests. Look at everyone on this forum!?! It is amazing!!! Molly

I was just reading the other day that Thomas Edison came up with more then 1,000 inventions but that everyone around him thought he was a little off.
The thing with him was that he saw that there could be improvements made in the world around him and decided to be the one to improve them.
Adversity is a great teacher.
Some things I like to remind myself of since there are time when even the best of us can get off track are;
1. Be solution oriented.
2. Develope new talents.
3. Make achievements a core personal value.
4. Remain Patient.
Not sure who wrote this but, "A cynic is a person who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing."

This week, I had difficulty staying positive and focused. I was at my day job. and I saw in my mind, the pictures and the dollar figure on my vision poster. Immediately, I had the same confidence and focus as I had when I first started this business. Now, to remember to do this all the time........
I read somewhere that courage is not about having the strength to go on, but going on when you have no strength left.

I like your post. It reminds me about important things I sometimes forget.
When I was a young girl, I found a strength and courage in myself to overcome my fear of parachuting jumps. Back then I didn't know the sentence "failure is not an option" but I did and thought exactly that.
Finding myself involved in IM business now, I think the same. The only difference I found is that jumps were much easier.

| Personally, whenever my commitment waivers and my desire to make it happen goes down, I try and remember why I got into MLM in the first place, and look at what my long term goal is. This resets things in my mind and I go about it refreshed and renewed.

I can truly identify personally, with the ideas shared in this thread. In my post, "Life is Short" I shared some recent personal experiences and circumstances that led to my losing focus, becoming discouraged, and feeling like just chucking in the towel. I didn't, of course but that thought did go through my mind, and I had to deal with it.
We all face discouragement at one time or another, we all walk through the darkness at one time or another. We all face inner demons that want to derail and destroy us. It's a fact of life. So what sets the successful apart from the unsuccessful? Among other things, I think it's their ability to see the big picture.
So, what is the big picture? Life is a precious gift, and it is so very short. Our hopes and dreams are also a gift, given to us to cause us to rise above, to strive for the best, the best for us, our families, our communities. It's part of the human condition to desire more, strive for more, for ourselves and the people we care about. The time and energy we spend in worry, self pity, fear is time wasted. Worse than that, it's counter productive and self destructive. Instead, we need to focus on life, on our dreams.
Next, we need to constantly go back and get in touch with our "why," the all consuming driving need want or desire that spurred us to get out of our comfort zone in the first place and persue the dream of owning our own business and achieving financial independence and security. I like the idea of putting up a dream board. I think I will do that, too. Thanks Jonroussel for your comment, on that one.
Success is a choice.

I really believe it is absolutely essential that a person has a big "why" and a burning desire.
It's not enough to just want things to be better. Almost everyone does.
But it's having an all consuming desire.... and a "why" we think about every day that drives us to keep going when things get tough. Because we do have obstacles at times.
The people with the burning desire and compelling reasons for wanting to change their lives for the better are the ones that succeed and reach their goals.

I believe that what you want you can achieve.
Just like a 9-5 JOB you have a schedule to keep. Many business owners don't take the time to make this schedule and it can kill your mindset.
The first two years in MLM and the first 18 years in direct sales, I never had enough faith in the system, the products, and myself.
You must have a method of working your business. You must develop a system that works for you. First decide your time schedule, sit down and map out your week, what time you will get up, be in the office, take and make calls, ect...
Follow this to the "T" I once heard someone say, "if you don't work who will?" If you are a business owner (that is what you are) than you must work hard, to bring in the sales, the workers and so on.
Don't sit on auto pilot even if you can. Millionaires have many lines in the water. They make the best fishermen.
