I agree with Tony on this.
This business is as simple as you make it to be.
It's really NOT complicated at all. There are no "secrets" or mysterious methods. Just good marketing and bad marketing.
You attract what you put out.
Having said that, I can see how some people see this as a complicated industry that's not all it's cracked out to be.
The truth is that the internet has been great for the industry and terrible for it at the same time.
It's so much more important today to have a Marketing System that is truly effective, so new people can duplicate it asap.
And your personal connection to people is even more important! Sounds like it would be the opposite, but it's not.
With the internet, one frustrated team member with no results and no support or proper training can quit and leave you in less that an instant.
Click -
Gone.
It's that easy.
We get bombarded with ads every day claiming this program is better, that system is better, etc...
The best defense to this reality today is good ole' fashioned personal touch.
You need to connect with the people that buy into you and follow through on your promises. Help them get plugged in.
Your most important tool in this is a professional and effective marketing system and solid training and support system.
Without that, you basically have no glue holding your buisness together and it can fall apart with a few "clicks" a day.
The attrition will keep you working like day 1 and your passive residual income will remain an illusion.
Education is key. When people actually learn the reality of this Marketing Industry; how it's done by professionals, what works and what doesn't, then they see the simplicity. They tend to stay longer and take some time to learn.
That's where I think some of the good marketing ebooks and marketing bootcamps come in and do their job.
Our real business is to develop leaders. That's your true product. And to create leaders you have to have all these pieces of the puzzle.
It's so much simpler, when you actually have a good system and solid training and support.

Great article, I appreciated the point that you don't spend the same amount of time with every prospect. That is so imperative, many in the networking industry seem to beat a dead horse.
They waste far too much time on prospects that show little or no interest whatsoever. I also liked the point, to be successful as your article mentioned,
you need to hang around people who are successful. How true that is. You are like the people you associate with.

Hi Tony,
I like it when you mentioned that this business is simple
and it really is if we think it is , then it will be.
It's just strange to see some people wander of in search
of a better opportunity each time they see one because they
like the system in this and that.
Ultimately, it still boils down to your very own recruiting system and
keeping it simple being able to work as a team is crucial as well.
Team meaning just you and your sponsor.
Meetings seems to be important in your point of view Tony,
what if we took meetings out of the equation. What would you think?
Regards,
Vern

Michael,
I didn't like the article at all. Just kidding
In my opinion, someone new to the industry could come in, read this article and have all the basics needed to succeed. Just plug in the work ethic and go.
As many above have said, the longer you do this the more you realize it really is about being helpful, giving, and caring. It all comes back to you ten fold.
Great Information!
To Your Success!

Yeah, from what I see everyday, top producers
in this industry have always been creative in
finding the weaknesses in their systems and
fixing them with tools and resources where
it becomes a smoother system.
People coming in to the industry are usually by
no means professional sales people.
Powerful systems that automate as much as possible
so a normal person can just plug in and learn to
drive targeted traffic to their system are really where
I believe a ton of growth will be made in the industry.
It's a simple business. And systems with automation
keep it that way.

Great article...especially the part about keeping it personal and staying connected.
As a copywriter/internet marketing consultant running my business out of my home, (I'm a mom of 2 teens and 2 tweens!) I find that each of my clients is unique.
Do any of you use webinars to support or train your team members? I use it quite often. But some of my clients are more comfortable with talking on the phone.
I think webinars are a great tool to be able to connect over the internet - and it can explode your potential market.
Best,
SM

Yeah as far as training, videos, camtasia, webinars, recorded
auios... Leverage in whatever form you find, is awesome
to get things done and free up time all at once.
I've leveraged everything... almost. And I'm always looking
to leverage or automate more.

I'm retired as far as not working for anybody else.
I guess I could say I'm unemployed... but that wouldn't be
so sexy...
The truth is probably that I'm unemployable...
But it's true. I got my butt kicked in this industry for 9 long
years and finally figured out enough to not have to work
for anybody else.
I love what I do now. I market online. And build leveraged and
targeted sales systems to generate online cash flow.
And anyone can do it. Plenty of people are doing it an all kinds
of companies. If I can do it. So can you. Just depends on vehicles
and systems, actions and dreams.

I find that keeping it personal is most important in any business...but tough to do in the age of the internet.
It's so true about people quitting "in a click" because of lack of training and/or support.
So how do you keep it personal? In person works best...next is talking on the phone...then webinars or webcasts. But it's difficult to get people to show up at a set live web presentation - sort of like the hotel meeting.
It would be great if you could affordably offer live webinars or video conferences around your prospects schedule...
How does everyone else keep it personal?
Best,
Sonja

This article was great! I agree about loving what you do is crucial! If your doing what you love, then you will find you are motivated to work and achieve your goals everyday. Having a sponsor there to help me every step of the way has provided me the opportunity to not only learn the knowledge required for my internet business, but it has allowed me to build not only a team relationship with him, but a friendship also. By giving me the opportunity to build my internet business, I can now help others to achieve their goals and achieve success within their business. There is truly nothing more rewarding for me than to help and see others succeed within this industry. It provides me with a sense of fulfillment and I feel as though I have accomplished one of my very important rules of life. Treat others how you would like to be treated. Thanks everyone.

I am new to this forum and reading through this thread I found a lot of different perspectives which in turn gives a lot of helpful information.
Thanks Michael for posting this article.
For me one of the most important points is choosing a company and product that you believe in. The integrity and credibility of your company and offering a product you are proud to represent, in my opinion is an essential part of your success.
I also agree with Tony and Franco that this business can be pretty simple given the right system, education, and team support. However, for anyone new to this industry there is a learning curve, just as there is in any new profession, job, or business online or off.
Learning to be a good marketer, I believe is the biggest challange. Regardless of how you choose to generate your leads, whether it be with ezines, adwords, postcards etc. it takes some time to learn and you need to be aware you may not be an overnight success.
There are a lot of good resources you can tap into. The Directory of Ezines is a good place to start to find ezines that will taget your market. Joe Vitale - Hypnotic Writing can help you create good ad copy that has your personal touch and Perry Marshall is the best for keywords, keyword phrases, and Google adwords.
One of the best ways I found to be a good marketer is to learn from those that are already successful. This is where a good team is important to help educate and support you. You can leverage their knowledge and experience and cut your learning curve in half.
I also believe personal development is preliminary to success in any endeavor.
The best piece of advice I can share is to be consistent, persistent, and don't quit!
Patricia

I have always been a believer in MLM companies having superior products. With a lot of them the quality is much the same.
So for me, it wasn't so much believing in the products that influenced my decision with my current company. It was more to do with price.
No matter how good the product is, if it's double the price someone is used to paying, it's going to be hard to get them as a customer and even harder to keep them as a customer. Regardless of how good the product is.
That is why the company I am with has the highest documented re-order rate at 95%. No other company has that I know of in our industry comes close to having a documented 95% re-order rate.

You have to CONSTANTLY follow these five simple steps to pave the way for a successful NM business:
1. Join a company with Unique products that do really help people
2. Believe in their products, love them and take them daily
3. Do not sponsor Everyone
4. Indentify Leaders and give them Maximum support
5. Never stop telling people your Story

Michael,
Thanks for sharing this article with everyone here. It's very informative and true. I like Joe's honesty of letting his readers know that this business is not easy like people have been mislead others to believe. Fortunately, one of my trainers during my early days of my career in this industry told me that "this business is simple but not easy". If she had not told me this, I would have quit, and said it didn't work and bad month the industry like so many people have done. Now I know that it does work if you have the right skills and tools to make it work for you. One of the problems is that most people do not hang around long enough to learn the right skills to make things happen for them, and they never seek for the knowledge they need to be successful.
To your success!

thankyou Tony,i wholeheartidly agree.
I do however believe that many people have not found a system to put in place for themselves and are forced to work much harder than necessary to promote their products. I know there is no one right way to run a mlm business, but perhaps if newbies were shown a generic system that can be used for any marketing business it would cut down on 90% of their efforts that usually land them in too much information and not enough direction.
thanks,
Matthew

Hi guys, I'm new so hope you don't mind me sharing some of my feelings. I'm basically a shy person. Yes, I'm outspoken with all my friends but then who isn't. The part about being personal is very important in network marketing, either online or offline. To be personal, the 1st way is of course to meet face to face, then webinar and lastly phone. Today with the technology, there is no longer an excuse for us not to be personal. So how does one who is shy and new to the internet marketing world going to overcome this? For me personally, I feel that the most important ingredient is passion. When you talk about your business with true passion, you are able to forget time is moving and the world is spinning just for that 15 mins. The second ingredient is in-dept knowledge. Being able to answer any questions that the prospects throws at you gives one the confidence to simply carry on. Those are some of my feelings so hope you guys don't mind.
Cheers

It's natural to be unsure of yourself especially when your new to the industry. And it's okay to make mistakes. We all have. What's important - Learn from those mistakes.
If you don't have success stories, yet. Use your mentors or your uplines. Your writing your story and we all have to start somewhere.
I also believe that passion is a huge component. If you are passionate about your business, stay focused and stay committed to yourself and your goals.

THis is what i got from internet. I hope it helps us as well
Top Network Marketers have unique selling propositions that help them grow their Network Marketing business. This involves the following.
1) Helping others find success online.
After you get 10 persons in your downline, that is a success! Some people spend years online and never are able to sell online. In network marketing, success comes in helping your downline sponsor another 10, and when they learn how to sponsor 10, everyone benefits.
2) A powerful back end engine.
Cold calling is tough. Fortunately, I had the chance to meet and learn ideas from folks who used a new way of getting leads and signups for their network marketing business. I still recall my 1st experience, going through mlm training and it was cool, after all, i was somewhat outgoing but not everyone i felt could duplicate what was taught in the mlm training. So there had to be a better way, and that was found in a funded sponsoring franchise.
3) Training.
This can be recorded or written in an ebook, passed around. So long as it educates folks on your behalf, this frees up your time to do the things you enjoy. The type of training you would be interested in is the one which co-relates to how you learn about the opportunity.
4) Timing
Start Early. Network Marketing online can easily bring you a minimum of $2900 every month which will go on to be stable recurring income. Depending on how much effort you're willing to put in, for the average person, this will take between 3 to 12 months. And once you hit this figure, you'll be very comfortable. Most important of all is to stick to a system and keep building your links, and the sales will come.
