Lisa,

I agree with you wholeheartedly.  Making false promises of instant riches gets you nowhere.  It is deceitful and will come back to bite you.  Telling your prospects the whole truth from the very beginning is the only way to go.

There was a gentleman in a very well known network marketing company who was several reps away from reaching the second highest position in the company. Then one day, 2 of his legs quit. He had to start back over again.

Attrition cannot be avoided, but it can be controlled. One of the great ways to control attrition is by being a great LEADER. People follow a great leader. Someone said if you help enough people get what they want, you will get what you want.

The young man who lost 2 legs was crushed, but he did not give up. He built his 2 legs back up. He understood the importance of being a leader. he poured himself into building those 2 legs, and he automatically got what he wanted.

A great way to duplicate in this business is to stack your first line with the amount of people that you want, then spend several months or more building them up. You must bring the leader out of them. What you did with them, they will duplicate.

If you poured into them to help them build their business, they will pour into their downline, and help them build their business. You will reduce attrition in your business, and you will produce leaders all over the place.

My husband tells me that most people are only as loyal (or as faithful) as their options.  Of course he wasn’t talking about business when he made that statement, but it got me thinking.

With all of the new MLM companies that come along, are We only as loyal as our options?
I think that many entrepreneurs  probably are involved in more than one business opportunity.  As a group, we tend to be folks that seek opportunities from more than one source. For instance, we do an MLM, then we also do different affiliate programs that complement our MLM.  That’s just how many run their businesses.
But how do we engender loyalty from the people that really matter to our business success?  (our downline and customers).
Do we focus on gaining loyal customers of our products/services?  Do we establish a “loyal” culture in our organization?  Or should we focus on getting our business partners to remain loyal to US as individual leaders?
What are your thoughts and what’s working for you?

Ok, unless i missed it, no one commented on the fact that sometimes it makes sense to be in more than one business at the same time, you know, multiple streams of income. As long as the companies don't compete directly for the same products or services, i see nothing wrong with that. I personally have a couple of ventures going on, right now. I have an online store selling hot sauces and seasonings, and i have my MLM business. They are two seperate entities, and they don't compete. Oh, and i have an affiliate position in a couple of companies that offer online tools to use to market my businesses. Again, multiple streams of income. My friend in SC i have mentioned before, has two MLM businesses going, plus he buys and sells classic cars, and makes a killing doing it.

Now, as to "frog-jumping," i believe the single most common reason people do that is that they are failing at the business they are in, or it is failing them. Now, you can't control what a company does, marketing plan changes, compensation plan changes, Upline defections, etc. Nor can you control the fact that you got involved in a bad company. Perhaps your Due Dilligence was not so dilligent, and, quite frankly, you got into a company that is not so great. Or, you just don't fit. You can't stand your upline, you are not one who is comfortable passing out samples on the street corner, or to people you know at work, church, school, etc. Whatever, the thing just is not a good fit for your personality, or your abilties. That can happen.

But you can control what you do, your own work ethic. If you are failing, you need to sit down and take a well thought out inventory of yourself. Are you 100% committed? Are you passionate, i mean is your passion for your business and your own success so all consuming that you will do whatever it takes, you know, "damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!" Are you following the training provided by your company and your upline? How many books are you reading, how many forums like this one are you participating in? How many people are you talking to about your opportunity, daily, weekly, monthly, etc? These are the reasons people fail. Jumping to another opportunity will not change your failure rate. I don't know if this helps anyone, but it makes sense to me.

Oh my, I love this topic.

This is happening everywhere on the Internet. Every now and then, you see so-called opportunities springing up with slogans that read 'Make money with no recruiting!' or 'Get paid by tonight!'.

Then you see people flock to these opportunities with the promise of easy money. And when they are not making money by the 2nd or 3rd month, they simply jumped ship to another 'Hottest New Opportunity'.

These people just don't get it, do they?

An opportunity is just that - an opportunity, not a magic bean to riches. Stick to one, and then put in lots of hard work to make it a success.

To the top,

Wyatt

Wyatt, by the way i replied to another of your replies to one of my replies in another thread. (did you get all that, LOL!) Anyway, you are absolutely right. It's an opportunity, a chance. What one makes of it is what will determine their success. There is NO easy button. People who want to get something for nothing would be better off buying a lottery ticket. Their chances are just about as good. I know one thing, they need to stay out of business. Business requires some sweat, blood, tears, and a little luck.

I know this may not be a very popular subject with many of you but some people may be in this position as I know many of us have been in the past and I've found very little information or places where this subject has been discussed.  So I wrote this article.  I hope it is informative.  BTW, questions, comments, thoughts, opinions, are all welcome.

We’ve all faced this question at some time in our network marketing or MLM experience.  For some this will be the first time they’ve even read anything about this subject as it might be the first time they’ve come to this crossroads in their business.  The answer is not easy but does have specific elements that should be considered when trying to make this decision.

If your sponsor disappeared on you just after signing up, that is not a good enough reason to leave.  Why do I say this?  Because your sponsor is not a deal breaker when it comes to your success in business.  You always have the option of tracking upline until you find someone who is willing to work with you and has a viable interest in your success.

Your company may be making changes in their structure, culture, comp plan, or over all direction that isn’t in alignment with your personal goals and ethics.  This is a challenge because you must remember that this is “your” business and you are in it to make a profit.  If the company’s decisions and changes conflict with your purpose and success, then it is time to move on.

Many times people become disenchanted with their company in what they are teaching is not working for you.  There may be a conflict of ethics in how they want you to go about your marketing or you’re just not making any profitable progress.  The old saying, “just keep doing what you’re doing and don’t quit,” is not very helpful much less comforting.  You’re not in a home based business to give charitable contributions each month with your auto ship and time.

Now comes the most important and possibly most convicting point of this article.  No one trains you to approach this question or dilemma.  Why should they as they don’t want you to even think about leaving their company for some other business opportunity.  If you’re lucky enough to have a true mentor in the business, they may work with you in going through this process.  Not so if the mentor is in the same company as you as they see you as a loss of income.

YOU!  Yes YOU are the most important part of this equation.  “What do you mean I’M the most important part?”  “I’m doing everything I can to make this work and none of it is MY fault.”  Oh contra ire my friend.  It’s always about YOU.  You made the choice of companies and you did do your research and due diligence, didn’t you?  You learned about the company and your sponsor from the different websites and interviews, didn’t you?  AND, have you actually worked the business as you were trained and put in the true effort to reach your vision and goals?  How do you answer these questions?

OK!  You’ve made the decision that what is going on in your home based business isn’t working and there needs to be a change.  If any of the above fits your situations then you have a good basis to change companies.  If you are convinced you’ve done all that was asked of you and you have put in the money, time, and effort, then maybe it is time for a change.

Just make sure you aren’t “creating” a reason for a change and that you have true business facts to base your decision.  Just being dissatisfied about your results is not enough reason without having accomplished the above in answering the personal questions.  There are always bumps in the road, challenges unforeseen, and circumstances beyond your control.  Especially don’t be listening to the nay-sayers and dream stealers.

If you are convinced this company is no longer right for you then you need to make a decision and take positive action on it.  Never burn your bridges behind you.  Always be professional and polite when dealing with your current upline or sponsor regarding your choice to change.  This business is funny and you never know when you may need their friendship, advice, or inspiration later on in your MLM career.

One last thing, you have to decide right now if network marketing or MLM are right for you.  If you really believe that this is the vehicle for you to pursue your visions and goals, then by all means start looking for another more suitable company.

One final thought.  Don’t be too worried what other people think about your decision.  After all it is YOUR decision and for your benefit personally and financially.  It is purely a business decision that you are committed to follow through for your success.  Don’t make some big announcement on your forums or personal pages about you changing companies.  Simply and quietly move in your new direction and let people find out as they may.

I hope this has given you some insight into what is involved in making a decision to stay or go with your current company.  More times than not it is a difficult decision but in the end it is all up to YOU.

Great post Craig,  Even though I'm not married to an opportunity, If a person has given it their all and it's just not clicking for them, maybe it's time to move on. I know
I've done that but I am in good terms with my former up line as my issues were with
other things with in the company.
All the Reps I know are super people and I've made business contacts and friends with many. I agree as far as possible don't burn bridges

Last night we had what I consider one of the best opportunity calls ever*. The main presenters were Randy Gage and Eric Worre, the two behemoths at the top of my company's pay plan. I had two prospects on the call so naturally I wanted to listen in myself so that I could speak to them intelligently about it during my follow-up.

During the presentation, Eric Worre said something that really stuck with me. He was speaking about all the people that are making 30k per month and more with my company, some having achieved that level in at little as one year. But then he went on to say...

"What if it took you three to four years?...what if it took you ten years?" So what? Where has the last ten brought you?

This struck me as very profound. I sat there staring up at the world-map above my desk. On it there are 28 push pins in 13 countries of the world. Red push pins indicating that the group represented is in my right leg, and yellow indicating groups in my left leg. All groups together numbering well over 1400+ people.

As I sat there I pondered Eric's words.... "what if it took you 10 years?" It's so basic and it makes so much sense but many networkers never seem to get it.

There is a phobia that is pervasive in MLM these days... it's the phobia of staying in a program more than one year. People with this phobia believe that unless they are in the newest "deal-o-the-day" and their downline doesn't explode overnight the way all the ads tell them it will, that they absolutely must quit and hop to another program.

When you have built a moderate group like I have (I say moderate because 1400+ people is really not a large group). You can see who has staying power and who is confused. And I don't want to use that word to be insulting or condescending. I really mean it. I think some people just don't understand that not everyone is going to have a monster group over night. For some it will require consistency and work over a period of time.

I have had people quit after one month, two months, or three months because they feel that "I" didn't put enough people in their downline.. Which is funny since they put "0" in themselves, or at best paid for one family member or friend to take a position. I have even had some people quit before they have even started once they realized they needed to actually work.

I have come to the conclusion that many networkers these days are much more guilty of wanting immediate gratification NOW than the general person off the street who expects that they are going to have to put in some time and effort to make the business work.

Why is this?

Well, just open any business opportunity magazine and you will see why. Dozens upon dozens of ad touting downlines overnight and thousands of dollars in the first 30 days. One gifting program in particular has a full-page ad in this months O********** W**** magazine claiming 24k in the first month.

Lies.... lies.... lies....

But people, and especially educated networkers buy into them on a regular basis and it's destroying their potential to build a rock solid legacy by sticking with a company that is making it work and will be there for the long haul.

Are they being seduced by easy money? Are they being brainwashed by the constant false promises day in and day out? Or are they just impatient with a something for nothing mentality?

I wish I can say it hasn't happened to me or my group, but the harsh reality is that I see it every day. People who promise they are going to be the next superstar in my company, vanish almost overnight with the lamest excuses you can imagine.

If you are one of these people. And only you truly know if you are... Sit back, look up at your wall, and ask yourself how many pins you have in your map.....You "do" have a map on the wall don't you?

Then ask yourself... If I keep jumping like a grasshopper on steroids, will I ever see that day when I can finally look down at my lapel and see a diamond? After all, where has all this gymnastic activity brought me to this point?

Bob

Anyone else willing to tackle the questions posed?

Take your time and really give them some thought.  They're meant to make you  pause and reflect.

Keep in mind the premise of this thread is frequent or constant "jumping" from 1 Op to another.

God Bless,
Michael
