I would say that discussion forums such as this one are invaluable.
So much time and sometimes money can be saved by joining discussion groups, asking questions, reading, learning.
Social networking is by far one of the best resources out there.
You build relationships,in turn building your business.
But by doing it the right way .
Discussions like this one here is a fantastic example.

I think essential steps for the beginner are to get organized and develop some attainable goals.
If you are brand new to internet marketing purpose to learn and develop a daily schedule for studying.
No one starts making money online immediately. It is not as easy as the promotions and advertisements on some websites would lead you to believe. You have to become educated before you begin and education takes time.
Develop a daily schedule with achievable goals. As you begin to learn, you can add to and subtract from the list as you go. Lay a good foundation and develop habits at the beginning that will become a part of your drive toward success.
To Your Success,
John

I agree with this. Top internet marketers are brands in themselves. Once you established and recognised, people trust you more so are more likely to purchase the products you promote. Thats my take from an affiliate marketing perspective.

Do not network market to your friends, family, co-workers or vague acquaintances. Save your dignity...and leave those poor people alone.
The best leads are leads that contact you!
And yes, you want to be using the most current and up-to-date methods of social marketing...and if you're as lucky as I am, you will have a team of NWM professionals that will mentor you every step of the way for free.
Every leader should have a mentor in their life. Ask the most successful leader you know, and I bet they've got many mentors in their life!

I have found that to be effective in Internet Marketing you need to establish yourself as an expert in the field. This takes effort and may mean hard work and acquiring skills to make that possible to achieve that objective. By doing research you can learn to accomplish your objectives.
1. Post to classified ads
2. Create your own blogs
3. Create your website
4. Write articles
5. Autoresponders
6. E-mail current contacts
7. Networking
8. Newsletters
Also, I recommend if you are serious about marketing, I would suggest reading this article for additional information. I found this article to read at the follow link below....
http://www.ezinearticles.com/?Network-Marketing-Newbies---Read-This-Before-Doing-Anything!&id=952820
Hi I was reading downwards when this thread really caught my eye. (So the tip is use bigger letters than others haha, just joking)
Anyway jdpugsle has listed the good ones out there so I guess I can only try to elaborate for a newbie.
1. Posting to classified ads.
- Find the currently most FREE popular online classifieds in your country/state
- Post at least 20 ads per time (all different)
- Post from 7am-9am, 1130am-1330 pm, 1930pm 2130pm
2. Creating your own blogs
- Post every 2-3 days at least with fresh content
-Good place to get content is Google News Alert which is a service which sends your "keywords" news to your email for free
3. Creating your own website
- Creating your own website allows you control over what you want
- Add adsense for extra income if you have regular traffic
4. Write articles
- Any information that you could possibly need is already out there, choose a few articles, reread it and write it out in your own words
- If you really don't want to write, please outsource because it is cheaper than you think
5. Auto-responders
- Auto-responders are generally very useful and they usually come free when you have a hosting account
- If you don't want to have a hosting account, choose Getresponse or Aweber
6. Email Current Contacts
- This is a good idea because you are genuine in letting your friends know about your opportunity and even if they don't want to join, they won't snub you.
7. Networking
- Attend as many seminars as possible because that is where you learn a lot and meet very targeted prospects
8. Newsletters
-Sending out newsletters are a good way to capture subscribers. Also during your newsletters, you can slip in an affiliate link or two to make that extra buck.
Hope this helps guys. My fingers are quite tired.
Cheers
PS: Hope you don't mind me adding my point of view in your suggestion jdpugsle

Mark,
Thanks for the link to the ezinearticles.com tips for newbies. I especially like the paragraph that says if you don't like cold calling friends and family about your business, then don't do it! Some will say that this is absolutely necessary to build your business, but I disagree. I have been on the other end of that scenario, and it is annoying when a friend tries to push their business on you. Even if they just mention their business when I see them, and don't try to push it on me, it makes me uncomfortable and I will avoid them if necessary. There are a lot of people out there who are interested in learning more about your business. Spend your time on them; not on your friends and family who are not interested.

You should avoid MLM businesses that offer commission-based compensation among distributors. Chances are that it is an illegal pyramid. However, it may not always be the case but still be careful. If you join such groups, the only assurance you got is having a job. But you have no assurance of getting paid evenly or squarely.
You should avoid MLM business groups that force the new distributors to buy expensive products or the products offered by that MLM group. This might be another sign of scam businesses.
You should be committed to you MLM business. Distributors must fulfill their respective duties. MLM business cannot grow by just merely looking at it. You should take time to figure out the weaknesses in your MLM business and than try to improve them.

Hi Ronda, Thanks but I can't take that credit. The link was by jdpugsl. All I did was simply expand on his advice because I'm afraid some noobies may not understand all the terms here.

One of the biggest reasons why 95% of the newbies fail at their biz is because they don't stay in the biz long enough.
The longer you stay in your biz, the higher the chances of you being successful.
So to all newbies out there: Don't give up easily!
Remember the very reason why you want to enter your biz in the first place. The reason(s) must be strong enough, and you must have the determination to follow it through.
To the top,
Wyatt

Hi Wyatt, I have a slightly different opinion here so hope you don't mind. For the newbies, it's not the patience to stay long in the "game". It's how hard and smart you market it. Even if you are in the best business there is, best compensation plan and best product, it still does not mean that customers are going to come knocking on your door. You have MARKET it. There are successful networkers who made it in a few months and others who are still losing money after 1 year. Why? Because they simply waited for others to come to them. So in summary, you need to learn some basic internet marketing strategies to market online. Wyatt, hope you don't mind me sharing my own personal point of view.

Hi Mark,
Some people take longer to succeed is because they take a bit longer to learn the basics of marketing their business.
It may be months before they get the hang of it.
So that's why i say the longer they stay in the business, the more chances of success.
Sure, they may just get a few visitors here, and a few leads there, but they have to realize that what they are doing are actually building a foundation for success, which they are guaranteed to achieve if they stay around long enough.

Wyatt

Hi Wyatt, I guess I can see your point. Sadly internet marketing is neither easy nor hard to understand. And frankly speaking, I feel that many online companies out there simply "teach" their members the basics and leave them hanging. For example, "Start posting in forums, Write articles" and stuff like that. They simply do not go in deep enough to the specifics.

How does one do this? I hear a lot about branding, can you give me some ideas how to do it?

Hi Mark,
That's a good point.
By only teaching the newbies the basics, it may seem that online companies are not doing enough.
But it actually forced some resourceful members to go and explore deeper on their own, which can only be a good thing.
As they say, you learn by doing.
Unfortunately, most people join their business expecting to be fed with a silver spoon, which is not the case.

Hi Wyatt I agree with you on this point. The newbies do expect to be spoon fed. However (personally) I don't think that is wrong. Imagine this, you're a newbie, you join because you really want to achieve your dream, since you don't know anything, is it really wrong to expect to be spoon fed? The only difference between newbies who succeed and those who don't is what you said, those who explore deeper on their own.

If a person shows desire a little spoon feeding is a good thing.

Agreed, a little spoon feeding doesn't hurt.
Just a little, that's all. Too much of a good thing is also no good.
I would say mentoring is a better word. All the great leaders in this world have their own mentors to guide them to success and greatness, and the newbies can do with some useful mentoring.

Hi Mike M & Netwhizzer, you're both very right. A little ispoon feeding s a good thing. Now I have a question. How do you tell whether someone you recruited from the net is worth you spending your time to do a little spoon feeding?
