My friend Wayne Anderson is quite the prolific writer on leadership techniques having written a number of articles for the TechRepublic IT Leadership site.
Although he writes for IT leadership sites, the techniques that he provides can be applied to any leader, regardless of your profession.
On the lighter side, and his most popular article, in "Master the art of procrastination" Wayne provides you with some "tongue-in-cheek" instructions on becoming an expert at not doing!

So .... are you an expert or a novice procrastinator?
God Bless,
Michael

Hi Michael,
I really liked this and it was fun to read.
I have the opposite problem of trying to do too much. If I have to do it, I have to do it "NOW!" Know what I mean?
This can make you crazy but I like working like that.

I hate to admit it, but it helps me to have assignments and deadlines that I have agreed to do with the help of someone I respect (and want to emulate).
Let me qualify that. On things that I really want to get done (that I will somehow get a reward from or a warm fuzzy from) I don't usually have any problem with procrastination. I'm pretty darned independent and I have a plan and a vision for my personal and business goals. I can definitely think on my feet and make things happen quickly. I have to. I'm a nurse!
However, if it is something that is going to cause me some type of emotional discomfort or if I am going to "expose myself" somehow (like talking in front of a group!) then it helps to have a FIRM agreement with someone I respect that I will do the uncomfortable act no matter how I feel about it! (Sort of like an accountability agreement)

This really hits home! I put EVERYTHING off. We are always running late when we go anywhere, drives my husband batty!
I put it off until the very last second, I am trying to overcome this!
With the help of my friends and my husband, I shall!

Procrastination isn't the art of keeping up with yesterday. It's the art of delaying the inevitable.I've found that, once I start on whatever it is I'm dreading, it's not nearly as bad as I expected

Are you becoming an expert at not doing?
If so ...then you need to change that!

Time management is SELF-Management. All of us have the same 24 hours. We each have to decide what to do with it. Become a manager of moments so you have more time in the rest of your life to enjoy yourself, your family and your friends.
Can you develop bad time management skills? Absolutely. Have clarity in your dreams and goals. Do not allow procrastination to set it. Keep focused and clear on what you want and what your goals are. Then go after them as if your life depends on it. Because in reality, it probably does.
Get control of your time and just don’t waste it. Turn off the T.V. Stop chatting about nothing, spend time in self development and study those that you want to be like.
Learn to control your thoughts and better yet, learn how to stop negative ones.
Self development, self development and more self development is key. When you want something bad enough, you will use your time wisely and go for it. Be a teacher of what is possible and take the time to go after your dreams.

I don't know Lisa. I've spent the last 53 years learning to become negative, scinical, short sighted, self defeating, developing quality negative talk, and having just a really bad attitude toward life.
What is a person to do?
