Well, I would appreciate learning a bit about YOU!
I have seen quite a few poeple switching form leading with the business to leading with the product. Have you?
Please take our poll and then post a message about whether you lead with the business or the product and WHY.
I feel like we're back in the 80's man!! Any old time MLMers here know what I mean?

It all depends on the person.
Selling to Recruit-->
If after speaking to them and they look like they could benefit with the product, I try and help them out with the product or service. But the key is, I always follow up with the opportunity. "Certainly, having benefited from what you got, you probably know someone else that could use it. Right? Do you mind telling me who you know that could use ABC Product?"
If they say yes, then I tell them how they could make some money sharing it with the person themselves.... If it's not for them I got a warm referral from a satisfied customer...(then repeat)
Recruiting to Sell -->
If I speak to someone that is a great candidate for the business, I share with them all the benefits of being in the business using the company tools, doing a three way follow up, etc..
Once they are in, it's a no brainier that they will be a customer, because you can't sell something that you don't use. There is no pressure in this or sales hype. If they believe in the business enough to get in, they obviously believe in the product enough to use the product/service too.

Lead with your ears. If you have a genuine interest in the person and listen unconditionally to what they are saying they will lead you to the right presentation.

I only spend my time with people who have asked about our business. Since I only run ads about "earning money from home", everyone I talk to has responded because they want to find out how to create a CEO's income from home.
Obviously we talk about product during our presentation. But I never "lead" with the product.

I tend to lead with the business, but have been known to lead with the products if that made sense at the time.

I used to lead with the business, and look for other business builders, till I added the SOC line. Now.... I don't lead at all.
I set up a free sample account, let them send a card and experience the system and it's strange, those with vision, sell themselves on the business. Others really fall in love with the product, just have no desire to build a business, yet they see the need for the product in their own lives, to they become loyal customers.
So with this product line, I really just show it, and go with the flow...not sure which category I'd really fall into .
Guess it's the blonde in me LOL

Hi guys ,
I always lead with the product and just let the opportunity come along but many people just want to know about the opportunity side of it. For some reason I find it awkward sometimes to lead with the opportunity, they might think that it is not a legit product.
What do you guys lead with? Any suggestion?
Thank you

I believe it depends on the product. I have seen different train of thoughts on this and seen both work. I believe it also depends on your personality.
With Send Out Cards, I lead with the product. The product sells itself, so that's a simple way to get someone's attention. It's also the first product that I've had that a prospect could try to for before purchasing. That helps me lead with that product.
I've was in health/nutrition for awhile and I had over 300 products. I had to lead with a concept or specific product. A specific product would get attention, but you had to know what product to best use.
Also, I believe you have to consider who you are approaching. What causes that person to tick? Depending on your product, lost leaders are great ways to lead also.
God Bless,
Joey

I was always taught to lead with the oppurtunity. It depends on whom you are talking with. If it's a friend or family member then I suggest you lead with the product.
Personally, I am a shark. For those who don't know what that is it means that I love money. That's my personality. If you know what language to speak to your prospects then you are saying different things to different people. Even though I like to help people also, I still like to learn about how to make more money. We can all agree that everyone would like to make more money.
Don't get me wrong, I think your product should stand out but what if they can get the same thing somewhere else? I will be launching a site soon that sells the product and I think that is still a great way to go. After all no one gets paid until a customer is acquired.

Great question Alex.
The most crucial aspect of any company that's going to last is its having a good product. If the product itself is not strong enough to lead with, then the company will eventually go out of business, as history has taught us so many times.
Over the longterm, continued growth cannot be sustained if a company's products are sub par, even if the opportunity is god. Eventually it just burns itself out.
But aside from that, Joey brings up a few very key points here. It does depend on the individual person, as well as who that person is approaching. Some people will respond better to the "opportunity" than they do to the products, and vice versa. You can't nail it down 100% either way. So it comes down to who you are, and with whom you're communicating at the time... the OLE "know your market" aspect.
So, if leading with the product works better, then lead with it. But if leading with the opportunity is more fruitful, then lead with that. Just remember that everything is situational. And do make sure that the company you join has products that you can lead with whenever leading with products is necessary. I think that's important.

I don't think you should join any company without a strong enough product. You don't want a bunch of unhappy customers because you won't have any customers at all. I have been to meeting where people forget to mention the details on the prouct. After you've gone crazy bout the product. Find others like you and promote that way.
To money-motivated people talk about how much money they want to make. For those you can care less about the money and only care about the cold hard facts. Other people just want to now if they could have alot of fun doing the business. Still others just want to help as many people as they can.
Once you are knowledgeable about people and how to talk to them than it doesn't matter which one you lead with because you are already talking their language.

Hi alex-vibe
products and comp plans are not the main reason I would join,
yes you can eroll some oportunities seekers with both of them but !
There are thousand legitimate opportunities out there with exellent support
outanding products and comp plans and you could fail easely on the "My is better that yours" game.
So the way I do it, I market automated "sytems" that way I atract more networkers
and once they see what it can do for their business
the rest is like drinking a glass of water.
so I would put my vote for market a System
Have a nice day

I picked "Both" since it depends on the person I am talking to. Sometimes the opportunity is the best way to start, sometimes the product. And it also depends on how I got the lead (or the lead came to me). If they responded to one of my business ads, well, that's what we discuss!
I'm going to try and branch out some more, though, and do some advertising on specific products that I think are 1) a good value 2) do what they claim and 3) are reasonably priced. With these people, product definitely comes first. And I will be happy to have them as a customer.
Eventually some of those people will becme more curious about the opportunity. By that time, they have used the product and like it (or they wouldn't be buying it every month). Enthusiasm about the product is a good start -- representing something they believe in.
Meanwhile, I will be pleased to receive the product income.

Hey!
I've chosen both to the above question. My sponsor lives in Sweden, his sponsor in America and I live here in Tokyo. What makes things difficult though is the fact that our company just opened up in my country. So although it's ground floor, there are many things we aren't allowed to do yet until grand opening and one of the things we aren't allowed to do here is retail the products. The only way they can get the products is to start out with a starter kit. So my sponsor tells me to always go with the opportunity first.
What do you guys think and what would you guys do in this situation?
Thanks for your opinions!

I think you have to fee right about the product you are promoting. The product has to fulfill the needs of your customers. I think a lot of people are looking for the opportunity, jump in, only to find out the product isn't cutting it. I vote: Product 1st, then make sure you have the right opportunity that people will get excited about.

I see so many people that sign-up for a new business and NEVER talk to anyone after that. So, I like to ask the question: Once the hype is gone, what are you going to do? To be successful, you need to have a great product and a STRONG "WHY" behind your business.
Just to make money doesn't seem to be a good enough "WHY" for most people. I have seen some have a drastic change in their financial situation and then take off with network marketing. All they decided was "To be successful!"
God Bless,
Joey

Hi!
I believe, that all successful companies that has been around for many years, are build around great products. But it also seems that most Companies believes that only if they have great products, a lot of people will make money, but according to statistics I heard somewhere, that over 95% of the people that starts in MLM fails.
So, yes the product are very important, but in order for the average person to make money, the system the companies provides with is maybe more important.
Because of the Internet, I also believe that we are going to see more and more companies, that survives in the long run, even though they only have "average" products, if they have a strong Internet Marketing system.
I mean the biggest reason people say no, to a MLM opportunity, is becuse they can't see them self succeed. But if you can show them a simple duplicable system that does not requires so much skills or rejection, many will say yes to it. So I believe it's very important to have a very strong duplicable online system.
But off course, it should be both a strong offline system and a strong online system.
/Henrik

Very good thought! I used to be with a health and nutrition company that had wonderful products. There are people making lots of money with that company, but I found that lots of people were overwhelmed.
We had over 300 products to know and a 45 minute presentation. The average person will shy away from that. When I was introduced to Send Out Cards, I knew I had something. All I have to do is show someone how to take 1 or 2 minutes and send a card. A very simple idea that does not intimidate people and is easy to duplicate.
So as you were saying, a system that is easy to duplicate will open the doors of success for you.
God Bless,
Joey
