It should be no secret by this point that I get a lot of my inspiration for my Best MLM Resources blog not just from my own experiences but also from my friends .... both online and offline. Sharing industry-relevant questions, thought-provoking debates, and really just making each other think beyond the obvious is truly enlightening and an enjoyable growth experience. With that in mind here's a piece my friend Merideth Cohrs shared with me some time ago just posted to Best MLM resources. I hope you enjoy it ..... and grow from it.

God Bless,
Michael

Lego Wisdom

Life might be less complicated for all of us if we each received our own LEGO kit at birth. Yes, I realize there is a choking hazard for children under three. But when you are old enough, you can learn a lot from LEGOs. I have learned that:

Size doesn't matter. When stepped on in the dark, a 2X2 LEGO brick causes the same amount of pain as a 2X8 brick.

All LEGO men are created equal (1.5625 inches tall). What they become is limited only by imagination.

There is strength in numbers. When the bricks stick together, great things can be accomplished.

Playtime is important. Sometimes it doesn't matter what you are building, as long as you're having fun.

Disaster happens. But the pieces can be put back together again.

Every brick has a purpose. Some are made for a specific spot—most can adapt almost anywhere—but every one will fit somewhere.

Color doesn't matter. A blue brick will fit in the same space as a red brick.

No one is indispensable. If one brick is unavailable, another can take its place.

It doesn't always turn out as planned. Sometimes it turns out better. If it doesn't, you can always try again.

---------

Pretty interesting concepts right? Now how does this apply to you as a home business owner? Let's look at some of the 'equal opportunity' statements first.

- Color doesn't matter
- Size doesn't matter
- All lego men are created equal

Obviously, these are figurative examples for us, but look at it this way. Each of your prospects and each member of your downline are just as important and just as valuable (I'm not talking about dollar signs here...) as the next. Their background doesn't matter. Their race doesn't matter. Their geographic location doesn't matter. The only thing that matters is their motivation to make their life better, and their commitment to achieving that end result.

How about the next concept - group activity.

- There is strength in numbers
- Every brick has it's purpose
- No one is indispensable

Now what does this mean? Does it mean that you have to have a huge business organization with project-oriented members? No... Strength in numbers does not necessarily refer to the size of your specific organization, but it does refer to the size of your support organization. No person (unless they are incredibly gifted) can be successful in this industry without help, training, and support. Find it...find it in forums, find it in your upline, find it in your family...but find it somewhere. Ever heard the phrase that successful people surround themselves with successful people? Just skip the learning curve and adopt that as a truth...

And yes, remember that everyone can be replaced. The moment you stop advertising or pursuing your goal, someone with more motivation and more desire than you will step into your gapped space online. Don't let that happen to you...one of the main reasons identifying your WHY is so important.

Finally, let's look at the last 2 concepts I haven't addressed...

- Playtime is important
- Disaster happens

The first is easy...all work and no play is not healthy and will cause you to burn out very quickly. And if you're not having fun, what's the point in having a home business? You can not have fun in a JOB and spare yourself some initial aggrevation...

But the second is a bit more delicate. The vast majority of people in the home business industry have failed at some point or another, and this frustrates a lot of people. I can tell you that I have failed many times... But I have learned from each of my failures and am where I am today because of them. A good friend told me something a few weeks ago that has stuck with me in a very profound way.

The wake of the boat does not determine the course of the boat.

What does that mean? Nothing in your past determines your future. Forget all the negative and start fresh. YOU create your own destiny...do not let your mistakes keep you from realizing that.

Michael,

I'm reminded of a story i heard about Thomas Edison, you know the inventor of, well just about everything important in our lives today. This particular story has to do with his invention of the Light Bulb. Seems ole Tom was working away, and one after another attempt ended in failure. One particular lab assistant was becoming more and more frustrated at the repeated unsuccessful attempts. Finally, in exasperation he exclaimed, "Mr. Edison, we failed again!" Edison replied, in a soft but authoratative voice, "no, we have not failed, we have simply found one more way that won't work."

What Thomas Edison understood that his frustrated assistant did not, is that each unsuccessful attempt at something puts you one attempt closer to the one that will work! It's no different in any life endeavor, and certainly no different in our industry. Every no is just one step closer to a yes. The law of averages is on our side in this one. Every failure in life, in business, is a learning experience if we will open our eyes and see. Every disaster, and yes, disaster happens, is a stepping stone to success. I guess Thomas Edison was a "glass half full" kind of guy.

Just a thought, hope it helps someone.

Philip Mitchell Hayes
