Can you really learn how to succeed in Network Marketing? Yes, of course you can. You may be thinking, then why do so many people fail? Well, let me ask you this. Why do people fail at anything? Why do people fail at dieting? Why do people fail at small business ventures? Why do people fail at implementing an exercise program?
The biggest reason is that people aren't serious enough and committed enough. Network Marketing is a business. So, it should be treated as one.
Most people have not reached the pain level that will lead them to success. You know the pain where you will work, work and work to get what you really want. It won't happen overnight either. Be willing to commit 3-5 years.
So many people don't understand that this is a business and it requires a budget. Why should they? Most uplines don't even mention it. Does your company allow retailing products or fundraising avenues to help you create a marketing budget? Learn how to monetize your marketing efforts and create multiple streams of income.
Learn how to succeed in Network Marketing? Yes, Network Marketing is one of the few "Earn while you Learn" programs out there. Leaders are readers and you must be willing to educate yourself and develop you. There are many great opportunities available today. But people join people. Develop you and attract others to you.
There are a few other keys to Network Marketing Success. One of the keys is to provide products or services that the average person will use. The products or services should be consumable and priced for affordability.
The product or service should be simple. Does it require a great deal of explanation or education? It shouldn't. Keep it simple.
Set goals. Daily, weekly, monthly and long term goals will keep you on track. Commit to those goals and stay focused. Yes, life can get in the way. If you work outside the home and have to be at work at 9 a.m., you are there right? Of course you are. Otherwise, you aren't getting paid.
A Network Marketing business isn't any different. You must commit the time and perform daily action steps towards your goals.
The fact is, not much has changed over the years. Network Marketing is one of the most rewarding home business opportunities today. But it's only rewarding when you decide to work it as a business.
So, take the time and really learn how to succeed in Network Marketing. It's worth it.

I agree and you actually almost need a 'I will never quit' attitude kinda like when the West was founded.. Go West or Bust was their motto!

Hi Lisa,
You bring out many good and valid points. I believe many recruiters and sponsors fail to mention what it takes to "continue" in the business after signing up. This always comes as a shock to the newbie. Many times the autoship alone is enough of a financial impact to cause people to drop out of NWM/MLM. So in this respect it is the recruiter or sponsors who fail, not the newbie.
Commitment! That is a key word. It has to come from their personal and very strong "why." Many people just coming into NWM/MLM just don't have it and their sponsor hasn't spent enough time with them to help them crystalize their "why" or vision. Again, the sponsor is the one who fails, not the newbie.
BUT! Let us not negate that the newbie must take responsibility for their own actions both in the beginning and the end. Their success or failure inevitably is up to them and them alone. Again, this needs to be made very clear at the beginning of the business relationship.
We can discuss this forever and it always comes back to the same elements to create success in one's organization.
Just a few thoughts on this subject.

Hi Lisa,
I loved your insights. But let me just add one more point.
In addition to the things you talked about newbies to network marketing must aquire certain skills to be successful.
You mentioned reading to educate yourself and that is exactly where I'm going with this.
Reading inspirational and motivational books are good. Having a can do attitude and never giving up is good.
But If you have not learned the right skills then all of your motivation and committment are not worth much.
The newbie must understand the basics of marketing in order to be successful in network MARKETING.
Most of us just getting started don't want to hear that, but we don't get paid unless we sell something so we have to learn how to market our products to those who need and want it.
Of course marketing is a skill and if you are committed and have set a budget etc, you will have no problem learning.

Keya,
Yes, I agree there are skills that you need to be taught. I also believe in helping others not make the same mistakes I did.
We can learn so much from each other. With the right training, education, mindset and determination, success will come.

| Personally, I like to recommend to others, study those that have been successful in the industry and emulate what they do. Successful people model other peoples success. They study what made a success and then ACT upon it.

Hey everyone,
My wife and I have been in Network Marketing for about 2 years now, and we have learned an amazing amount of information.
For example, we learned that even though we have personally sponsored 203 people into our Network Marketing Opportunities, the reality is that we have 2 people who are qualified leaders and duplicating our success.
We learned that there are some people that you just have to "let go". And that we cannot possibly save everyone, and that they must work hard to find their dedication, before you can ever help them.
We learned that the focus of this business all along is not a numbers game where you try to recruit as many as you can to see "what sticks". We learned this even though our "Mentors" told us to contact our warm market, and apply the "3 foot rule". (Which doesn't work for 97% of MLM'ers.)
We learned that "Quality" and "Qualifying" are two, far more important words in the lingo of a successful Home Business Entrepreneur than the words "Momentum" and "Hype."
We learned that as long as we never stopped Educating ourselves, we would always be experiencing increasing results if we made sure to apply ourselves consistently.
We learned that no matter what, negativity is not an option.
We saw the results of our Consistent Effort Daily, and we realized that without C.E.D. our chances of success would be non-existant.
We learned that the second word in Network Marketing is.......MARKETING!
We learned to avoid "information overload" and we focused on mastering 1-2 forms of marketing ourselves at a time. Then we added new things every few months.
We learned that sometimes it's best to NOT DO what everyone else is doing.
And we learned, that this business, if taken seriously and practiced daily, gets more and more rewarding by the week.
Regards,
Broker Jones

Thank you Ronda.
As a result of what we learned in our first two years, this industry has truly become 100% rewarding to us. Right now we are recruiting 1-3 people that we feel are qualified to become leaders and we work solely with them until they are on their feet and producing.....only then do we worry about recruiting another.

Broker,
Great stuff and I appreciate your honesty. Two leaders out of 200+ recruits says it all. Not everyone will duplicate your efforts. Actually, most won't. So, learn to bless and release. Work on yourself and team up with those that are willing to do what most won't.
And have fun along the way!

Kurt,
I do agree that it is helpful to study others. When I first started my network marketing career, I was taught the warm market approach and the 3 foot rule. However, it didn't take long to figure out there was a better way. I wanted to learn more about building my business online. Those resources weren't available with my current upline, so I searched for experts that could teach me what I wanted and needed to know.

To address the first quote:
I truly believe you have hit the nail on the head here. The two most powerful motivators, and by the way wall street figured these out a long time ago, are "pain" and "want." People will do what they want, buy what they want, go where they want, etc. We all need to be more healthy, eat right, save money, etc. but "wants" will overcome "needs" any day of the week. People will also do whatever they can to avoid "pain." If the pain is strong enough, they will do someting about it. In this business, look for and reach out to people who are in touch with their "pain" and who know what they "want" and you will build a deep and successful downline.
I always ask prospects for my business, "what do you want?" Sometimes they will hem and haw around a little, but I persist, and eventually they will give it to me. Sometimes you can tell they are in great pain. Find out what that pain is, engage them in conversation long enough to gain their trust and they will give that one to you, as well. Don't sell this process short. It's absolute Gold! Find their pain, show them how you can help relieve that pain, and many of them will join you. Find out what they REALLY want, show them how you can help them get it, and again, many of them will join you.
To address the second:
Another direct hit on the head of that same nail. People who do not treat a home business with the same respect, dedication, commitment as a job for which they have to leave the house every day, drive to a plant, business, whatever, work 8 - 12 hours with one lunch break and one 15 minute break, yada yada yada, will not succeed in a home business. My friend Michael (FreedomFire) says that if you treat your business like a hobby you will get hobby sized paychecks, hobby sized results. That's the absolute truth!
You want to avoid like the plague, people who refuse to take this seriously, who refuse to treat it as a business. They will fail and sometimes they will drag you down as well. They will sap you of your energy, waste your time (time is the one resource you have that is non-renewable, once gone, it's gone forever and you are not getting any younger) and they will take you away from the ones who DO want it, who ARE serious, and who WILL follow your lead, your teaching, your direction. Those are the ones you want to work with.
Now, I know you cannot always know beforehand who will work with you and take this seriously and who will not. I try to find out in the "interview" stage, where I am showing them the business and seeing what they think of it, and while I am trying to determine their level of "pain" and their level of "want." If neither of those motivators is strong enough, I end the "interview" and move on WITHOUT THEM! You see, I look at prospecting a little differently than most. I am not showing them a business to see if they like it and want to join me. I am showing them a business, seeing that they think, but all the while I am interviewing them, not the reverse. I am probing, seeking, looking for signs that this person is a good candidate or they are not. Once I determine they are not, I end the interview, and move on.
You do not want someone in your business that you have to beg and plead with to get them there. Guess what you will be doing once they are with you? You will be doing that same begging and pleading to get them to do any work! Folks, they are simply not worth the effort. I would rather find one or two who are RIGHT for my business than 10 or 20 (or more) who are not.
I didn't mean to hijack this thread, here. It just sort of happened, sorry about that. But I think these things apply to "learning how to succeed in Network Marketing. Success is studied, planned, worked for, and never an accident!

Thanks Iwillard,
We actually don't recruit people into our businesses that don't meet our criteria first, and we're thinking this will drastically increase the rate of success.
We've built several marketing systems for teammates from the ground up that are successful at this time.
Here's to a great second half in 2008!

There are many truths in this post...This is what rings true in my practice:
"We learned that there are some people that you just have to "let go". And that we cannot possibly save everyone, and that they must work hard to find their dedication, before you can ever help them."
Excellent post. Well Done.

I love this post.
I'm a relatively new marketer. Right now I"m still making strides everyday and learning everyday. I'm happy with my progress but it is tough in
the beginning as any entrepreneur well knows. The uncertainty can be unsettling.
But, this post reminds me to just keep on the path I'm on, and with consistency and effort and focus, I believe I will have great success.
This is the path of I've chosen to take and I will not quit until I get to that
haven I have envisioned in my mind.
Later all,
JosephSpace
