Here's a timely tip on how to better manage your time ..... and make sure you're focused more on high value activities.  It's somewhat long, so I'm just going to give you the link to the article.

The question is .....  can you afford NOT to do this?

============

Remember The Key Word: FOCUS!

If you are like most people, it seems everything you attempt where the goal is to better your life, your job, your financial situation, almost anything is an uphill battle. It is like trying to ride a bike uphill, in a forest, where a path does not yet exist, and you are trying to forge a new path. In many ways that may be an accurate reflection of what you are trying to do, but why does it always feel like you are trying to go uphill?

More often than not, the problem is summarized accurately in a single word: FOCUS. Everyone has the same number of hours in a day, but almost everyone has different people tugging at them and pulling at their shirt sleeve to get their attention for something. Sometimes it is that task at your job that you have been putting off, sometimes it is your kids trying to get your attention, maybe you've got a kid in college needing more money, and too many more things to mention. It really is difficult to FOCUS in today's world with everything else going on!

But at the same time, hopefully you realize and fully understand how critically important it is to focus on important things. This is a matter of prioritization, where your spouse, your kids, and your religious convictions need to consistently take a top priority. But after that, identify a task or an area where you need to focus your attentions, so that you thoroughly understand that topic and can take action on getting results from that new understanding.

When you think of FOCUS, think of a telescope. If something is out of focus, you cannot get a clear picture of it. The very definition of it is fuzzy at best, so you make adjustments to get it IN FOCUS. The tasks you wish to accomplish, like your Cognigen business, are no different. There are many areas of your Cognigen business which are probably not in focus, but with some of your undivided attention, you can bring those areas into sharp focus so that you can act on them.

Sometimes you do not know where to start, since there are so many areas of your Cognigen business that are out of focus to you. Pick just one or two of them and focus your attentions there. Learn to identify what you don't know, enhance what you do know, and learn the resources you have at your fingertips to fill in the blanks.

You are the president, CEO, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Wastebasket Emptier of your Cognigen business, so nobody is going to hand you anything on a silver platter. But if you decide to focus on understanding your Cognigen business, to fill in the blanks of things you don't know, and increase your knowledge level of what it takes to succeed, your chances of success just went through the roof.

Make the decision today to focus on your Cognigen business so that you and your family can build a business that can financially carry you into the future you have dreamed of.

This is great. I know for me personally I go through periods with my business where I get side tracted by trying to try out too many new internet marketing methods at once and other distractions. Focusing on my ultimate goals helps fix this and I know this is a common problem with many networkers.

Great Post! I don't know how many times I get pitched with the line, "I was wondering if you would keep your options open and consider my business also..." Even when I respond with, "Focus, Focus, Focus..." People respond with the "Buddy, you don't get it..." look. Really, they are the one's "not getting it..."

Great post.

Hey Ghorbh,

I get approached almost daily with people who want me to join them in their "brand new ground floor opportunity" and my reply up front before they get into their pitch or anything else is simple.

"I'm not recruitable"

Wisdom of the Ages my Friend

I myself was a recent victim of procrastinating and wasting my time being busy instead of being productive.   I have a saying: eat your frogs first, Frogs being the most difficult yet necessary activities of your day. But since the most difficult task is not necessarily the most productive I think I'll change it now to: eat your golden eggs first Besides I think I might look forward to eating golden eggs, more than I look forward to eating frogs  ;)

If there is one thing that I have learned that has put thousands a week into my pocket - it is to stay laser focused on the desired goal until it is achieved. For me, that means tuning out outside influences that would distract me from my work, or appeal to my emotions and perhaps even make me think that my goal was not worthy!
What do I mean?
Well, if you work online you no doubt have experienced information overload. You get hundreds of spam mail messages per day that you must wade through to find the gold you seek, and if you are researching how to succeed in your business – you can very quickly find yourself on a long winding ride to nowhere.
If you intend to succeed – if you KNOW you will succeed if you could just get down to what works – then please follow these instructions carefully so that you too can put thousands in your pockets!
First and foremost, find one company and stick with it for the long haul. Unless you find yourself in a business that you truly do not like, or if you find that it’s corrupt in some way – or they go and change the comp plan – stick with your company. Do not let anyone or anything tell you that they have the better deal. The grass will always seem greener, the money will always bigger with another company. Now, you are in business for yourself and you are not ‘married’ to a company – but I’m telling you that you will get NOWHERE fast if you are a company jumper, or an mlm junkie. Do your research and find an excellent company (yes, they are out there!), and stick with it until you succeed. You will be far more likely to succeed if you know the company and comp plan inside and out than if you leave it behind assuming it ‘didn’t work’, when in fact, you didn’t work it. Most residual millionaires have built those fortunes by building one business HUGE. They create a story for themselves, build momentum, support a team and ride off into the sunset living their life by design. That is what you want isn’t it? You are ultimately working for freedom – for the residual millions. So stick where you are. If you aren’t happy where you are- then learn more about your company – meet some of your key leaders and see why they are there. You may just find that doing so, really learning your business, is all you need in order to love where you are! You have to see the vision to work it long term. If you really hate your company- find your new home quickly, and then get down to WORK.
Now, put your blinders on. Ignore the mail that wants to tell you about the next big thing- the voicemail blasts that want to sell you the voiceblaster, the people who purchased your name and want to tell you about their deal. Ignore it COMPLETELY. It is of no use to you, it will not make you successful in your business. Do not surf the net looking for the next big thing, the magic traffic system, the worlds best lead source, the automated downline builder… Don’t even go there! The internet is an energy sucker – a vampire sucking away the precious productive hours that you have to build your empire. Just STOP surfing.
Your upline leaders will share with you the tools they use. Do not recreate the wheel. Use the system that is in place to build. If your direct sponsor is not terribly successful, go upline until you find the leader who will help you. A true leader should be able to direct you to the tools to help you to build in whatever way YOU choose. There are many ways to build and you need to find the ways that resonate with you. Whether you want to build online or offline, or both- your upline leader should be able to give you the system that works to put in new reps. Once you are making 30-40K per month, then maybe you can get fancy and try new methods- until then, be teachable and use the system in place!
I know you are still waiting for what will put thousands in your pocket – right? The answer is – WORK. Work your business like mad to build your financial fortress. The speed of your success depends only on your level of belief and your massive action. You need to KNOW that if others are earning the big checks- you can and will as soon as you expect success. Stay laser focused and work the system. Ignore the distractions that you encounter online – don’t join another company – don’t go looking for the magic bullet. Plug into your system and WIN.
"Success can be defined as the progressive realization of a worthy ideal." - Earl Nightingale.

Melanie,

Thanks for the great information.  It is RIGHT ON!  I was a "company jumper" myself at one time, and you are absolutely right.  You will get nowhere if you do this.  I hope that the forum readers will take this information to heart.  It is so important to know the things that you reveal in your article.

Many successful people have mutiple streams of income.  If it a winner keep it and if it's a loser kick it.

For me focus is simple. I will not entertain a "greener grass" scenario of any kind. I am committed to the business I am in, period. Many of you have read my post, "There is No Plan B." Well, that includes not being distracted by other business opportunities. No exceptions.

You guys heard of Eben Pagan?

Well...he got an EXCELLENT video on time management.

http://www.gurumastermindvideoblog.com/2008/05/productive.php

The program is now closed...but fortunately he left that great video on time management up.

Highly recommend everyone to watch it. Improved my time management a lot, simply by following how a $20 mil/yr entrepreneur manage his time.

To summarize....

40% of time on Customer: Basically activities which draw prospects to you, advertising and such.

20% on Conversion: Your web pages...email autoresponders...the copywriting on your sales letters...all those stuff which serve to convert prospects into your customers or downlines.

10% time on Content: Quite self-explanatory. Content you use to advertise yourself...such as ebooks to give away. For me personally it will be mostly on the 45-day training program my team is working together on for all our downlines.

Plus my own advanced education curriculum for my team members who want to know more.

30% on Business Systems: Well, all the systems you build to manage your business...setting up your autoresponders...searching for virtual assistants...planning your customer management...

For myself we focus on improving our prospecting systems and adding more content for our training systems.

Have to say...this part is rather important as it saves a lot of our time. Recommend anyone serious in building a business to looking into automating the most time-consuming aspects of your business.

For e.g. we use our training system to explain to our new downlines about the comp plans...the company itself...the products.

Can't imagine having to explain all those stuff again and again to anyone who joins us.

So yep...my two cents.

Focus is a very important key to success.

The best way I've found to keep myself focus is to write out daily goals everyday I want to accomplish and focus on the goal at hand - usually one at a time. It hurts me to write down a goal for the day and not accomplish it. It s a very strong motivator because it makes you take accountability for your actions, and keeps you from wandering around the house going "Oh man, what was I supposed to do again...i know I'm missing somethign but what was it?"

It's not easy at first, but soon it becomes as standerd as brushing your teeth and you just HAVE to do it. Its a discipline very few people I've find out can make themselves do on a consistent basis.

When you write down your goals, you ALWAYS get results in the positive direction, so long as your taking action on those goals.

I love that quote by Earl Nightingale.  The Strangest Secret remains one of my all time favorite CDs.

And I agree with the comments about staying laser focused on the company you are with.

There are MLM junkies who are always jumping into the latest, greatest thing.

While there can be good reasons for leaving one MLM to join another,  it should only be done with the greatest consideration and never something that should be made a habit.

And I have never met a really successful network marketer who was simultaneously building two MLMs.

Joanne

Hey Joanne,

Thanks for that great line. Fully agree with that. Can't imagine how beginners can balance out their time and energy learning and building more than 1 business opp at the same time.

Another area which laser focus is VERY much needed is in what we learn.

I personally used to keep jumping around from over 10 blogs learning whatever I can get my hands on.

SEO...Adwords...eBook writing...viral marketing...social bookmarking...article marketing...email marketing...

LOL can't imagine how I used to multitask so much back then. But frankly speaking that multitasking did no good to me at all.

All those free ebook reports...while good, I find they actually confuse people, because they only represent part of a curriculum the author of that ebook is trying to teach/promote in his course, if there is at all.

So what I did was invest in 3 courses Max at any one time, fully DIGEST what my money have paid for, implement them, and get results before moving on to the next one. Constantly learning is important!

Just sharing with everyone the courses I'm currently focusing now.

Mike Dillard: MLM Traffic Formula
Clayton Makepeace: Ultimate Desktop Copy Coach
John Reese: Traffic Secrets 2.0

BTW, all those courses are GREAT university grade materials. Especially Clayton Makepeace. So any fellow students of these masters here? ;)

Michael (Freedom Fire)...if I don't remember wrongly...you frequent to Clayton's Total Package right?

So...

If you keep jumping around from company to company...you'll never get started at all.

If you keep jumping around from eBook to eBook....you'll never learn anything at all.

FOCUS! If you want to move forward at all.

Michael, I agree, focus is key. Allow me to share another viewpoint to augment what you have said. If a person wants to better themself in any way, their life, their job, their financial situation, whatever, they have to be willing to CHANGE. I think that change is part of what causes the "uphill battle" feeling. I saw this quote in another thread in another forum:

"The burning desire to CHANGE is the fuel that starts your journey
to achieving your goals. Using that desire you change yourself to
become the person you NEED TO BE in order to achieve your goal/dream,
etc......The RIGHT YOU, WITH THE RIGHT BUSINESS, AT THE RIGHT TIME
is where the success will flow in. But It all starts with a burning desire."

As I said there, and elsewhere in a post on one of Tony's threads:

"Change is hard. It's sometimes painful. No, it's almost always painful. It stretches your boundaries. It often requires a complete paradigm shift. It changes who you are, how you think, what you think is important and what you think is not. But change must be undergone if we are going to grow in the direction of achieving, of realizing our dreams."

I like how this person put it, to become the RIGHT YOU, WITH THE RIGHT BUSINESS, AT THE RIGHT TIME! Awesome words. You know in your heart who the RIGHT YOU is. You may not think you do, but you do. You will recognize The RIGHT BUSINESS when you see it and if you are willing to open the door to what is possible and take the risk necessary to step through. Change always involves risk. You will arrive precisely at The RIGHT TIME because you will be ready for it.

All you have gone through, all you have experienced, all you have hoped for and all you have feared has prepared you for what lies ahead. All one needs to do is to have that Burning Desire, answer the call of the heart and be willing to Embrace Change! Ok, I know this sounds a bit metaphysical, but it is true none the less. Have you ever wondered why most people never truly realize their dreams? I believe it all comes back to their "why." Is their desire, their passion strong enough, does it burn hot enough to comsume them? If it does, they will realize their dream.

But it may feel like an "uphill" struggle along the way. It will not be easy and It will tempt you to give up the fight, throw in the towell, or as I like to say, to whimp out! So, in the words of one of my favorite college basketball coaches, while he was still alive and fighting cancer to the end, "Never, Never, Never Give Up!".....Jim Valvano

That's my two cents worth, anyway.

Mitch
