So you want to increase the number of team partners you sponsor into your network marketing business? Who doesn’t? I sponsor people successfully on a regular basis. Here are some ideas on how to increase your sponsoring ratio.

Develop the right mindset. This is crucial to your success. You must expect others to join you. Your mindset will influence your success more than anything else.

Have a positive Attitude. People love working with positive people. Furthermore, if your attitude is positive then you will think positively and the world will give you back positive results.

Practice makes perfect. The more you speak with people about your network marketing opportunity, the easier it will become to sign up new business partners. It is much harder in the beginning than it is later.

Realize that although you do need a certain number of people, you do not need any one person. Focus on speaking with as many people as you can and you will sign up a certain number of them. Take your focus off of any particular person.

Develop the skill of asking appropriate questions. Questions can help you discover what people are looking for as well as how you can help them. The more questions you ask, the more information you will learn about how you can help the other person.

Seek to develop relationships. People join and do business with those with whom they have a relationship, can trust and feel like they are important to that person.

Recognize that no matter how good you are, you will never sponsor everyone. Certain people do not have the right mindset or are not ready to join right now and it will not matter what you say or do.

Focus on giving to the other person. What can you give not what can you get? must be your moto. If you truly care about the other person’s interest, then you will be a more effective sponsor than if you are trying to get something for yourself.

Listen more than you talk. People love to have someone else listening to them. Furthermore, if you listen you will learn much more about how you can help the person than if you just talk and talk.

Care more about what it best for the other person than what is best for you. It may not be in the other person’s best interest to join you.

Believe in the law of attraction and in its power to bring the right people into your business. If you focus on selling yourself and what you have to offer as well as offering value and looking for others who share common abilities and interests then your business will grow much quicker. Say out loud to yourself “I am attracting the right people into my business.” Then believe it and it will happen.

I think this was a great post.  The concept is that you must be a giver.  Once people realize that you give more than you ask for, the enrollees will be lining up at your doorstep.

One other point that you made was to listen more than you talk.  WOW!  How important is that!  Some people really think that their "sales" skills will make them a success in MLM, but it's the people who are willing to listen and offer solutions to problems that take home the prize.  The talking salesperson may convice a sign-up but over the long-term, they will surely lose that sign-up!

Hi bellabuddy,

Great post.  For me, the two most important points you made were "you will never sponsor everyone", and "care more about what is best for the other person than what is best for you".  Some distributors become so upset when a prospect says "no".  Not everyone will join you; period.  Get used to it.  That's just the way it is.

Caring more about what is best for the other person is mandatory.  If we are in this just for ourselves, we will not succeed in the long run.  This business truly is not for everyone.  Everyone could do it if they had the desire, motivation, patience, drive, etc., but not everyone possesses these qualities.

Great post bellabuddy!

Let me expand on some portions.

Realize that although you do need a certain number of people, you do not need any one person. Focus on speaking with as many people as you can and you will sign up a certain number of them. Take your focus off of any particular person.
For every one who turn you down (actually you should be the one turning them down), there are 10 others waiting for you to call them.

It's a numbers game. Just keep calling or speaking.

Develop the skill of asking appropriate questions. Questions can help you discover what people are looking for as well as how you can help them. The more questions you ask, the more information you will learn about how you can help the other person.
In MLM you must practice interviewing prospect to see if they are worth your time to work with.

You are building your business empire, and you only want the right "employees" in your team. If you blindly hire "rogue employees" they are going to just SUCK the life and time out of you. They are a emotional drain.

One good question to ask them is "Hey John, other than money, what are you looking for in a business like this?"

This question will tell you if they do have the DESIRE to drive themselves. If they are just after a extra 200 bucks a month...most probably they will not have the drive to keep them going.

If the prospect on the phone says that she is after a passive source of income to support her diving trips which she is ABSOLUTELY passionate about...he or she will make a great team member.

These types of prospects will have the drive to learn and implement on their own. Just give them the information and know-how...and they will take action. No need for hand-holding which is REALLY taxing.

I saw this quote on a post in another forum, and it fascinated me.

"The art of listening is an important tool. If your downline develops this ability, they will observe the many cues prospects will give them that can be opportunities to close."

I would  be very much interested in what you guys think about this, and how you develop those special listening skills, both in yourself and in your downline. I don't know about you, but I know I still have much to learn about how to listen and how to pick up on both verbal and non-verbal cues. Even on the phone, tone of voice, pauses, and so many things can be clues to where your prospect is, mentally. How do you guys listen, what do you listen for, what clues can you pick up on that will tell you your prospect is ready to be closed? And, how do you teach this skill to your people? I would love to hear what you think.

One mentor I have a lot of respect for says, "identify their pain." Another says to find out their deep "need, want, desire." In other words, get to their "why."  We all know that if a person's "why" is not strong enough, they will never succeed, and we are doing them and ourselves a disservice by sponsoring them. It's just too easy to quit when the going gets tough. It takes a strong passionate "why" to succeed, this is true in life in general. Look at any industry, sports, entertainment, medicine, you name it. We can all point to people who may not be loaded with raw talent, but they "wanted it" more than some who did not make it, even though they may have been more talented. There has to be passion in order to succeed. There are far too many obstacles to success in life to get there without a deep seated all consuming drive.

I'm reminded of the 1983 NCAA basketball championship. NC State was up against Houston. They were over matched at every position. They had less depth on their bench. But they had Jim Valvano as their head coach. Jimmy V was a master at drawing out the best in his players and instilling in his team that all consuming, never say die, never give up, attitude that says "by God I WANT this and no one is going to keep it from me!." What happened? Nc State took the game down to the wire and toppled the vaunted Houston Cougars and won the national championship. No way going in should they have won. Huston was taller, faster, more talented, their superior at every phase of the game. Every phase but one. Desire. NC State had the stronger "why."

So, find out your prospect's "why." If it's strong enough, invite them to join your team. If it's not, do yourself and them a favor and don't sponsor them.
