I have had a huge response from printing my own "business cards" with just the simple slogan  "Do This Today"  and one of my forwarding URL's which just happens to be .DoThisToday.com and placing them in every monthly bill I pay.  I also mail one back in each of the postage paid envelopes I receive in junk mail.

People are naturally curious and even if they throw it away, "Do This Today" is easy to remember and most seem to be at least visiting my site.  Plus, it's free!

Is anyone else doing something similar to this?

I used to. It's a form of bootstrap marketing (similar to leaving business cards in restaurants, at ATM machines or at gas pumps). And as far as those methods go, it's a pretty easy one to do and will sometimes get a result.

In my experience, though, I never found it to be a highly efficient way to work.

How many people would you say you've had request more information from that method?

I never really understand this..

For myself, I have never mailed my bills in.   I used to just pay them at the bank, and now I just pay them online.

But If I did mail them in, I always though.   WHY would my phone company want to join my MLM or something.   maybe its me, but I never understood this.

oh and how is this mass mailing ;)

It is not the phone company I am advertising to, it is the payment processor who works 40 hours a week at a little over minimum wage.

Most people do not realize the possibilities that exsist by straying from the expected.  I was fortunate enough to believe that a better way of life existed and went and found it, but most people believe they have to work 40 hours or more because that is what society expects of them.

Even if they visit my site and think it is not for them they will be aware of what is available to them.

With the amount of junk mail I receive, it sure feels like mass mailing.

I do this as well.  Even in this day and age, there are a few companies who don't have online payments.  Or like one of mine, charges exhorbitantly for the priviledge.

So, I do use it.  Sometimes I put in a business card for my business opportunity, sometimes one for my ebay business.  And yes, I am "marketing" to the people who open those envelopes.

Sure, most of my cards will get thrown in the garbage.  But with the cost of my business cards being exceedingly cheap, and since I have an envelope with free postage (or a bill I have to send in anyway), why not?  After all, maybe for the person who opens the envelope, it's the right time to explore the opportunity.

That's right.  People who work in mail rooms are prime prospects!  I always stuff a business card into every postage paid envelope I get, and I know for a fact that it has generated some income for my.  Many magazines have postage paid postcards.  Just write your catchy URL on those and send them back!  They will get mailed, and they will be seen by all sorts of people before reaching the final mailroom.

Don't this as your main strategy, but if you are like me, you are always thinking-or almost always- about your business.  The little things you can do, like above, can only help.  You may get one sale, two, who knows.  You may get one extremely motivated person who will seriously benefit your business.  Of course, if you don't try, you'll definetely get zero!

Put it into a sports context for a moment.  "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." (Wayne Gretzky)

So keep taking shots because you never know!

Thanks Paul-Marc, the postcard is another good idea.

I agee with you, and in my business, even if it only makes me one sale a year it would be well worth it.

I was taught no matter what you do, the better.  It's the thing about never missing a shot.  You're right, someone does have to open the mail, so what does it hurt.  I would not use that as my ONLY marketing method, but the more ways of getting the word out the better.

Go for it.

This is interesting. Has anyone experienced positive results from this method of marketing? I understand that you don't have much to lose but who has this worked for? I knew someone that would stuff business cards into shirt sleeves in department stores so that when someone tried it on they would end up with a business card in their hand. Sounded kinda hoakey to me.
