I have used car signs to advertise my business. They have worked for me. You can go to sign store and have one made inexpensively. I went to a car sign in my area and had two car signs made; one for each side of my car. They were magnetic signs. I had my 800 number and my web site displayed on my car sign.
Another good, low cost advertising method is business card flyers. They are actually business cards. I make mine at home and then I go out and place them on the driver's side car window. I slide the business card between the black moulding and the window on the driver's side of the car. I will usually have the writing on the cards facing towards the inside of the car. This way, it forces the owner of the car to pick up the card and turn it over to read it. I go to different parking lots in my area. I can very quickly put out 100 or more in under an hour. It is also good execise because you do a lot of walking.
Both methods do work and they are inexpensive.

This is a marketing strategy perhaps some of us haven't thought about. Cable TV can bring in leads. I wasn't able to do this in my area because slots were taken up for the entire year, but it very well could work for you.
What you would do is call your local cable station and ask about advertising rates for a 30-60 second slot. With your ad spot, you would just advertise a free report that contains info of interest to your niche. You would also include a 800# for people to call so that they can leave their name and address so that you can send them their free report.
Here is an example of a Cable TV Ad......
"Free report Reveals Secrets to Ending Back Pain Forever!
Read this free report before consulting a medical professional.
Call (you would have your 800# here) FREE recorded message to get a copy of this free report."
And that's it! This can be a low-cost and effective way to advertise.
God Bless,
Michael

I had thought our local cable company before but never took the time to look into the details. Thanks for bringing it up.
It reminded me about it.

Hi,
I have been experimenting with "mini advertisements" on supermarket noticeboards. The difference being instead of a "pull-tab" with my Name and Phone number and maybe website.
I get the interested party to text me their NAME and message. If I was selling cars it would be NAME followed by CAR.
Great way of getting an instant action from the prospect and I collect their mobile number at the same time.

Isn't cable advertising expensive? I might consider it if it's not too much. I think as one previous person mentioned, that car advertising is huge. Not just magnets, but bigger too, like a wrap. I know a ton of people who get hundreds of calls from their vehicle advertising. I know one fellow who will get calls as he's driving down the highway saying how much for 'X" product, I'm right behind you and it looks interesting.
Another big idea if your products warrant it, is the Home Party. Still big these days. My wife has these every so often and they work like a charm. People love to socialize, so make sure there is plenty of food and drinks, and put on a nice casual display and talk about you products and company. If you do it well, with class, it brings in big returns. We walked around our neighbourhood and asked all our neighbours. It worked.

Watching a webcast one night with other members of my company, one guy said he takes all the inserts off inside of magazines and then pastes his information on there and sends it back to the company that sent it to him. A lot of people asked if this was legal and he said definitley YES and that he gets quite a bit of action this way. I have not tried it yet, anyone here tried it?

I have done some TV advertising. It works really well - IF you can convert call in leads to buyers. The best way I've found is a service called PatLive. You can play a recorded message (if you want) or go straight to a live operator (all of them named "Pat"...male or female) and in your ad, say "Call Pat at my office for more info...". That has brought my conversions from about 20% to almost 40% (strictly from late night cable tv rotations). If you're going to do it, go with FOX. They are WAY cheaper than most any other major station (e.g. ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.) Some cable channels are cheaper, but you can make your decision on that when you're ready to advertise.
Radio ads are affordable too. The key...converting the leads into buyers. Again, I recommend PatLive with a 2-3 minute recorded message then have them "stay on the line to be connected to a live operator". If you're going to do radio - use "adlets" and promote a website. "Adlets" are 5 second spots that are dirt cheap. You can fit something like...
"Want to make money online?...Example.com why? Because work sucks."
I ran an ad like that on some AM radio stations and got plenty of leads. It was certainly worth it.

Look through the ideas shared in this thread:
http://homebasedbusinessforums.com/forum30/3164-1.html
A couple creative contributions were involvement with area "Homearamas", local charity events such as Walk For Life, and Chamber of Commerce presentations.
Think out of the box for the biggest bang for the buck. Flyers on car windows, supermarket run ins, and such yield small returns if any. Think bigger.
God Bless,
Michael

Offline advertising should all be about Joint Ventureships or automated marketing. JV with the local car wash, or radio station, or pizza shop. Offer them a % of each sale, it is a win win situation.
Local marketing like bandit signs, car magnets, t shirts, and post it notes work great.
Offline advertising like voice blasting has been something that has exploded my business.

With all the emphasis on online marketing, most people are probably forgetting one of the most powerful means of advertising available.
I'm talking about classified advertising in newspapers. Most people are aware of what you have to do to place an ad in a daily or weekly newspaper, but did you know there are companies that will place your ad in literally hundreds of papers with circulation's in the millions for pennies per ad? Instead of paying the ridiculously high ad rates newspapers charge for a single classified, you can get that very same ad placed in hundreds of newspapers for pennies. Usually about $0.20-$0.30 per ad.
Another good thing is that many of these newspapers will accept business opportunity ads too. Below is a list of a few companies you can contact or visit their web sites and see the prices of their advertising packages. Think about it, one ad that draws a response rate of .05%, that's 1/2 of 1 percent, on a circulation of 4 million can bring in $10,000-$20,000 in a very short period of time. Your cost for this type of ad. About $250-$450. These companies also offer less expensive packages if you just want to test an ad. But this type of advertising works. You can post your URL in the ad and still sell from your website.
Maybe you've never given much thought to this type of advertising related to your online business. Maybe none of your programs ever discussed this with you. Maybe they just don't know about it. But now you have a very powerful means of getting your message out that can earn substantial profit on your investment.
Here are some fine companies you can contact to see what kind of advertising packages they offer.
Nationwide Classifieds
http://www.nationwideclassifieds.com/
Discount National Newspaper Advertising
http://www.advertisingresults.com/
You can also find great packages through state or regional press associations. Each state or region has press associations which consist of a group of newspapers. You can do a search at any search engine for 'press association' and find this information. Many will even help you with your ad.
[Note: personally I don't do bizop advertising with this...although I know some do and have had success. I've used it for products/services and it worked for me. For you....don't know. Likely vary by what you're offering and how well you target your market.]
God Bless,
Michael

Keep sharing examples and experiences folks. There's lots you can do "OFFLINE". Forgetting that....or not taking advantage of those opportunites.....is selling yourself short.
Phone, mail, print ads, face-to-face, and more are viable and important pieces of your business building toolbox.
God Bess,
Michael
Note: this thread is for OFFLINE ideas only. No online "internet marketing" content. There's another discussion board here for that called "Web Marketing".

I completely agree, I recently spoke with a group of students at Lamson College about nutrition. I got to sample out my product and brought some food for them to eat. I may get a customer, I may not, but the thank you letter is helpful in gaining credibility.

| Vehicle magnet signs can be very effective, especially if they are eye-catching and contrast in color with your vehicle. Example: a yellow sign on a black vehicle.

The city of San Diego requires that you have a "Solicitation License" to leave flyers at homes or cars. Personally, I turn in people that decide to use my personal property for their advertising.
