Hey there!
My name is Shelley and although I've been lurking here for a few months, I haven't posted much. This is my first attempt at mlm and as such, I'm sorry that I don't have much to offer; maybe in time...
I was wondering if anyone has tried either to recruit and/or sell retail through their County Fair. If so, what was your experience in doing so?

No one can really answer that for you. It depends on how much a stall would cost and how good you are at building relationships.
Seeing that you sell chocolate, you can easily give free samples that people can test right there at the fair. That is a great way to start talking.

Hi Alexander,
Maybe I wasn't clear in what I'm asking I wasn't really asking whether or not I should do my County Fair. That decision has already been made. My upperline rented a booth and we are splitting the cost; of course I realize that each person's success or failure is relative to their own personal strenghths and weaknesses.
I'm asking whether or not anyone else has tried to do their County Fair? If so, I would like to know what their experience was in doing so, positive or negative? Would they do it again?
I don't know... am I posting this at the wrong forum? Would there be another forum besides Home Based Business Forums, where this would be more suited?
Shelley

Shelley,
I had a good friend who took his frontline team to the Virginia state fair a few years ago ....just as they were starting with ACN. They had great success and came back with a large amount of both customers and new reps. That's actually how Bill started and set the then record for reaching the top position in the company (ACN) in the shortest amount of time.
I hope that's what you were looking for.
God Bless,
Michael

Wow, a STATE fair? I'm just talking about a county fair; I can only imagine how many people filtered through a state fair... but that's awesome! Thanks for sharing

I think you have to target your market to maximize your time and money spent. Otherwise it's a hit or miss experience. What ever it is you are selling, are the kinds of people that go to a fair in your target market? If so then you have an excellent opportunity to do well - if not, then lady luck may or may not be with you.
I like to use selling apples as an example. If my business were selling apples I could take a bag full and walk down the street of almost any major city in this country and try to sell them. Maybe it would take me all day. It's not that people don't like apples, but just walking down the street they are not in the mind set to buy apples.
If I take my apples to my local farmers market I would do much better and sell them all quickly - people here are in the mind set to buy fruit!

Hi rfresh,
Thank you for your insight, and I agree. My county fair could be a hit or a miss, and I'm fully aware of that. Personally, when I go to the fair, part of the reason I go is to spend money that I normally don't spend; either because of price or in the case of food, I eat things at the fair that I don't include as part of my normal everyday diet. For example: elephant ears, chocolate covered bananas, polish sausage, etc...
Now is chocolate marketable at the fair? Yes, absoultey. But is "healthy" "spendy" chocolate? Maybe, maybe not. We'll see.

Personally .. for me I would go to a fair just for the sake of going and maybe meeting people. and such.
But as far as looking for people for my business I would not go with that intention as that is the wrong intention to have to go meet people with. That is what I hate about MLM to say the truth, it almost give people an agenda on why they want to talk to you and stuff.
I would rather spend my time talking to those who have already expressed interest in what I have to offer though my marketing efforts and such.

no, no, no.... I would never do that! I hope you don't think that is what I'm going to do! My upline rented a commercial vending booth as part of their marketing efforts.

County Fair is a great place but its best to set up a booth with plenty of brochure information and/or product samples if its a nutritional business.
Don't worry about making sales, make sure you get names and numbers and pass out plenty of business cards.

I guess, you've got a clear Yay for the Fair and some excellent ideas on what to focus on.
It is so good to hear so many people affirm that it is about building relationships, not selling.

Will do but our county fair isn't until August 22nd. In the mean time, I'm sure I'll continue to see you around the board
