I did get to No 1, it however took a lot of work to get links linking to my site. I wrote articles, it seems for ever but I did get about 200 sites linking to my site.
If you are interested, there are easier ways to get links, and I will tell you how. The best part it is free and the first one takes about 15 minutes.
If you go to http://www.linkshighway.net/main/ byou can get immediately 62 links which continually build.
The other one is free also but work, http://www.autolinkexchanger.com/NewAgeLinkExchange.pdf good luck and besat wishes for the holiday.

| I am on page one of Google for hundreds of make money keyword phrases thanks primarily to article writing and forum marketing. It takes a lot of work, but in the long run is worth the effort. Quality archived backlinks can bring traffic for years.

What would you suggest as a daily routine? In other words, how many forum posts and articles would you plan to do everyday?

I'm #1 or at least top 10 for a number of key words....for 5 different websites...on Google, Yahoo, AND MSN. My primary strategy is centered on links.
How? Read the below excerpt of info shared with our group by my partner for the scoop. [note: ignore the business/company specific comments and focus on the meat of the methodology.]
God Bless,

================
Optimizing Your Pages
One of the things I have been doing in the past several months is spending time to learn more in-depth aspects about SEO or "Search Engine Optimization". It is a fascinating topic and one that changes rapidly. Many of the fundamentals as well as many of the finer points are listed in the Marketing section of your ShopForT1 back office. If you haven't read through that material, it would be well worth your time to do so. Also take note that with many other programs out there, such material (at lesser quality) has a price tag associated with it, but this information is available to you at no charge. Well, I take that back, even though the same applies to anything else -- the "charge" associated with it is that HAVING the knowledge in your head does you no good whatsoever, until you put that knowledge into ACTION.
Link Exchanges
One of the things of "goodness" that you can do for your web pages is to do link exchanges. I have used several over the years, but the one providing me with the most number of links, particularly quality links, is LinkMetro. This program is discussed in the link exchange section in the back office. They have both a paid version (only $9.97 per month, and in my opinion, worth every penny), and they also have a FREE option when you are responsible for adding the reciprocal link yourself. One of the big benefits of the paid option is that after you put their scripts on your site, you can define the categories, include sub-categories, and there is also an option that you can run as frequently as you wish to CHECK all of the reciprocal links to make sure that your partners are still linking to you. And if they aren't, it is a simple one-button click to remove them.
For the free version in Link Metro, you still get the link requests but instead of simply doing a one-click operation to either accept or decline the link exchange request, you are now responsible for whatever mechanism you want to use to add their link to your site. I also have many sites using this option, and the best program I have found for implementing your own link page is called Link Reciprocal Manager. Again, you define as many categories as you want, and add links. It also has an option on the control panel that allows you to check each and every one of your reciprocal links to ensure that your link partner is still linking back to you, and like the more automated LinkMetro program, it is a one click operation to remove the links of anyone who is no longer pointing back to you with a reciprocal link. Reciprocal Manager is not free, but in terms of ease of operation, it is money well spent and you can use it on as many sites as you want.
Oh yeah, one more thing about Reciprocal Manager. Your main links page is setup with a link so that if someone visits your links page, they can click a button to have their link added. You get notification of this, and you can then select which ones to approve and which ones to decline. Pretty slick stuff.
One Way Links
The only thing better than a link exchange where you point to their site and they point back to your site is having ONE WAY links, where they are pointing to your site and you have no obligation to point back to their site. This is especially useful and powerful if the site pointing to you is a very popular site with a high PR rating. There are two ways (at least) to accomplish this:
Write articles. Can you write an article on a particular aspect of a topic? If not, can your wife/husband/son/mother/etc? Get that article written, pay attention to the keyword(s) that you are using within the article -- don't try to "keyword stuff" your article, as the search engines can identify that at 100 paces these days. Generally accepted "keyword density" is around 2.5% to 3% and not more than once per average-sized paragraph. The article should be at least 500 words long. (Microsoft Word has a "word count" option in the Tools option box). Before you finish, open up Notepad and create a quick "author bio" and this is where the power of this technique comes in, because as part of your bio, you will have a statement like "for more information about T1 line pricing, please visit Joe Schmoe's web site at http://i-want-a-t1-sale.com", where the URL would be your T1 site or perhaps your GeoQuote Plus site.
Now, go to any of the article distribution sites across the Internet, and there are literally hundreds of them. I personally have articles listed on a huge variety of topics, with about a dozen articles at each of 300-some article sites. Some of these article sites also have a high PR rating, like GoArticles.com or EzineArticles.com. Sign up for an account with them (free), and then submit your article WITH THE AUTHOR BIO data. Once it is accepted, presto - you now have a one way link to your site from a high PR site.
Caution: make sure your articles are not plagiarized or obtained from some other existing site. All of the quality article distribution sites check an article submission for duplication or "unoriginality", some using the free software DupeCop.com. Also, you may want to have your spouse or a bud read the article first, since it MUST be quality and provide good information, and therefore grammar errors and spelling errors will be a major detriment to your credibility, and perhaps also to whether or not the site will accept your article.
Note: you can also do this with ezine distribution sites, although I personally have not yet done that.
Blogs
Search engines love blogs and that love is increasing. Create a blog on a topic niche, or create MANY blogs on MANY topic niches. Make regular (at least weekly) updates to your blogs with new content, because the only thing that search engines love more than good quality content is FRESH good quality content. And blogs get crawled by the SE spiders very regularly and consistently. Within your blog, make sure you reference your web site that you want people to visit, very similar to the author bio statement referenced above. This reference to your web site is what gets you the one way link to your site.
If you want to get even more into blogging or "advanced blogging", you can install WordPress on your site, or (as I have done for some cases) have a hosting account where the ONLY thing there you have is blogs. The advantage of having your blogs on a separate hosting account is that (assuming you use a different web host provider) the blog references and pointer to your site will come from a different IP address. In other words, if you blog from the SAME account where you have your site, then your site and the blog will have the same IP address, and the search engines are more than smart enough to realize that you are simply tooting your own horn. :-)
WordPress is free, and if you have Fantasico installed as part of your Cpanel web hosting service, you can click to install WordPress right from your cpanel. There are many add-ons (free) for WordPress to enhance your blog. One of the things you can do in WordPress is to designate what WordPress should do after a post has been made. Huh? Stay with me here... after you make a post (i.e., fresh content), you want to let people know that there is NEW FRESH CONTENT in your blog, right? That is done via a list of services that will crawl your site, IF you ping them every time you add new content.
Who do I ping? To encourage you to peruse the ShopForT1 forum/BBS, I posted a list of 30 or so ping services in a BBS post several weeks ago, simply copy that list to the box in your WordPress admin panel! The sites that you ping that will crawl your blog are high PR sites (one of them is a PR 8) that themselves get crawled daily. The spiders see an entry for your blog(s), check it out, note the pointer to your site, and "SE love is created". It's a pretty picture.

Bottom line...content is king, just like it's always been. The SE's are focussing on it now more than ever. And that is correct...one-way links are the best of all links.
As for link exchanges/reciprocal links, their importance has recently dropped significantlly now that Yahoo! and Google have adjusted and updated their algorithms again. So in regard to that, please don't pay for reciprocal links or link exchanges - the major SE's are now penalizing sites for that.
Shine on,
Aar n

Hi Guys,
I'd just like to add that sometimes passive links are also easily available. What I mean is that when someone places your website URL in their blog or website since you have published a nice post or article they will eventually like to have you on top of their links.
I say this with agreement with Aaron as my blog is always centered around content and I never copied any content. Just mainly information I have in the back of my mind and some research I did myself.
Now, if only I can find a way to automate it.

Here is a website I use to look at how I am doing on backlinks and how my competition is doing as well. There is a lot of good info here on many different subjects:
http://www.faganfinder.com
I use this link specifically to see the number of links I have coming in according to Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

If you are really serious about building up a long term business, and need links, I still believe one of the most powerful ways is to write good, informative articles, then use a comprehensive article publishing system to get them out there.
If you know your product or service, it only takes one ezine webmaster with 200,000 members, to pick up up your article and you are made for life.
Don't expect quick fixes though. You must write articles regularly ( at least once a week) and you WILL see results in about 10 -12 weeks. That is your pipe line built - just keep writing the articles...

| Content is King OK, but duplicate copy is a killer... More and more search engines are setting up powerful systems to check for duplicate content. My advice is don't rip off other people's articles, and if you use a PLR system, make sure you put lots of changes in them. Even simple things, like changing the number of paragraphs, can change an article's 'footprint' dramatically.

When it comes to your ranking in the search engines it's an ever changing thing. Everything is always getting updated and more sites are being added. It comes down to having good keywords; meta tags and content that compliment those keywords; update that content often and get one way links.
Forget link exchanges because if you have 10 links to your site and 10 links out you won't like the results. You want links to your site from articles, blogs, newspapers, ezines, other sites, ads, and you want to be in as many directories as possible. The more your link popularity you have the better your site will perform in the SE if you have good keywords.
Check out these sites and feel free to contact me for help.

I used to use link metro but I noticed that my sites were not moving up in the ranks for the keywords I wanted. I canceled that then started article marketing. I wrote 5 articles per day (I love to write). and posted them on ezinearticles, goarticles and article city. I only post to these three because I noticed that when I post to more than them it takes longer for my sites to get ranked. I am also a member of 3way links. This is a bit expensive but worth it. This site takes 3 websites site 1 links to 2, and 2 links to 3 and 3 links to 1. It does this over the course of time. I also post to blogs (wordpress with out the no follow command) and I use social networks to get free back links.
I only use articles and these link programs for adsense sites. They are usually on the first page of google for all of my keywords with in 1 month. The process I use takes 5-10 hours to set up then I just monitor it. Every thing is a 1 time set up.

I heard that google penalizes or does not give page rank if it finds the backlinks for the site to be a paid link. Is this possible. How google will find out that it is a backlink and paid for that. Because most of the links these days are paid links only. Is there any other way than the paid links and social networking to earn some links.?

Hi my name is Jaime Allen:
I recently found a great way to get up in the rankings I did for an article I wrote and my own website:
I think the key IS to use key-tags and also use popular key tags plus a specific one. Also a magnificent list of bookmarking places that I have found are:
http://www.onlywire.com/
http://www.digg.com/
http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php/
http://www.stumbleupon.com/
Easy steps:
1) Write crucial content on a recent topic: I did it on new social networks like Yuwie and Zubby, plus I added the tags: social facebook myspace
2) Digg, and ask a friend to digg, you have to digg other things also, otherwise it it spam, create credibility.
3) Google spiders love Squidoo.com, write a lens there everything having good content and also linking back to your site with more content.
Create bookmarks in your site for the 4 bookmarks I put up, more if you find them.
This way if users like what you offer they will bookmark it creating possibly 8 links directly for every user.
What works always is to have a KEY unpopular plus one popular so I used Zubby, Yuwie, and social networks+facebook+myspace.
My squidoo is ranking in #1 for tags: zubby facebook, yuwie facebook, yuwie social (my site), also zubby social
If you can send e-mails to your friends to bookmark if they like what they see, and digg, and stumble
Google spiders love digg.com and squidoo.com, it's the 2.0 era, and Stumble Upon
Of course article writing and creating content is the key but tags in photos, link backs, titles, subtitles, work like a charm.
Hope this helps!
Also those sites have high ranking because they are very useful.

Links are a great way to promote your business, especially one-way inbound links, but be careful, especially with Google. Their algorythm changes constantly, and Google has been notorious for penalizing websites with too many links.
Writing articles is a far better way to promote your business. Don't ignore links....because you do need them, but be sure they are good quality relevent links......and keep the numbers down.

I'd definitely agree with allenjaime above. The social sites he mentions are a great way to get your brand quickly exposed on Google. I ran a campaign for a friends business just recently and within 2 days I had the #1 position for her keywords, and within a week I had 9 of the top 10 results pointing to her site. All done with social sites.
Linking is the most important way to build PageRank, contrary to what Bizmancan suggests, I think having as many links to your site coming from high PR sites will only help you. Treading lightly is not necessary when building links.

Don't get me wrong, i suggested a moderate amount of links, and be sure they are RELEVANT links, not just a lot of links plastered all over your webpage. If you just link, you will look like a "link farm", and if that happens, don't look for any good rankings from Google or anyone else.
Your site must be relevant to your keyword with INCOMING links to you that are about the theme of your website. Just placing any link will be a waste of time, especially if they do not point to your site.
You can place tons of PR4, 5 and 6 to your site, but if they do not point back to you, you'll be sadly disappointed. Google, as well as all search engines, want to know how important "your site" is...not theirs.
