SEO is an exact science, but an ever changing and evolving one. You think you know the rules and then the rules change again.

There are perhaps thousands (yeah, really) of places to find advice on SEO but here is one definitive source:

http://seo-theory.com/wordpress/2007/

It would take starting at the beginning and reading through all the posts to get an idea of what Michael has to offer BUT would be a tremendous learning experience.

Another good resource is  http://www.highrankings.com from Jill Whalen.  Sign up for her newsletter, High Rankings Advisor. She is very knowledgable in the field and a lot of people do quote her on what she says.

Be careful taking the blanket advice in forums and groups.   Most of it is OH-pinion only. Of course, following threads of discussions can lead to forming your own mindset on any given issue as it regards SEO.

It is also a reason to keep up to date. If you are tempted to buy an ebook on the subject, wait ten minutes and the information will be outdated.

God Bless,
Michael

LOL. This is so true. Although my sense is that SEO is not as exact a science as some would have us believe, primarily due to the constant changes and the "secret" algorithms.

Basically, it's probably an exact science but we'll never know how to "exact" it properly.

I suppose SEO is an exact science to the search engines, but it doesn't necessarily need to be for the average website builder.

Using SBI to build my sites, I've applied their motto of "keeping it real" and using the basic principles of keyword research and page building and it seems to work quite simply and easily.

I include the main keyword in the tags, headline, first paragraph, last paragraph, and a text link.  Depending on the length of the page I may add it one or two more times along with a sprinkling of supporting related keywords and that seems to do the trick.

I wonder sometimes, if people "over think" or "overwork" their SEO when that time can be better spent elsewhere.

I'm no pro, so I fall into Michael's category of "oh-pinion" but it does seek to work well.  :)

Generally speaking .... "Be careful taking the blanket advice in forums and groups.   Most of it is OH-pinion only. Of course, following threads of discussions can lead to forming your own mindset on any given issue as it regards SEO."

That doesn't mean there's not good info in this Forum....because there is.  But there's good info and just plain "info".   You still need to do your homework and see what is current AND works for your purposes.

God Bless,
Michael

SEO algorhythms (formulas for calculating positioning

based on keywords and inbound link quality) are getting

better and better.

Just providing good content and consistently getting

backlinks to your sites will help them to rank.  It isn't

necessary to "game" the search engines to get traffic

and sales.

This isn't to say that being savvy about the search engines

won't help... but the days of crap adsense sites ranking well

seem to be over.  Think about providing your user with a good

experience and build those backlinks and you'll be ok.

Over time of course you'll want to learn more about SEO and

get higher rankings with less work... but to start out SEO

doesn't have to be some kind of Voodoo.
