One thing I've noticed, people can do very well using different methods of reaching out, meeting people and building their business.

Read a 21 September article on this subject ... including tips and resources on using Twitter .... on the Best MLM Resources blog here:

God Bless,

And from what I’ve seen, Michael certainly knows what he’s talking about!

Just remember to keep focusing on your goal and do what it takes to get there.

If you’re just starting out, focus on one of the methods and then DO it (action is what gets results after all). Get comfortable with it and then try the next one...

To Your Success!

I think one thing to keep in mind when emplimenting new marketing strategies is to not stretch yourself too thin. Cut what isn't working.

Ever wonder what a tinyurl is? or how to use them?

I’m sure you have noticed tweets with links being posted that are a tinyurl address. Ever wonder why? The reason for this is simple, if you are using Twitter and want to share a link, you only have 140 character to use. A link such as,

http://ericgard.wordpress.com/2009/12/06/just-married-groom-
changes-facebook-relationship-status-at-the-altar-video/

is 116 characters long, that doesnt leave you much room to write anything else in your tweet.
So if you put the above link into tinyurl it spits out.... Read full article

Great article that hits on points worth remembering.

Twitter is so simple that many of us forget that despite the small parameters, the medium has huge implications for businesses. As a Twitterer with professional interests, you need to be aware of the potential negative side effects of a poor tweet, and approach the platform a little differently than a user with personal interests.

Although mistakes are part of the process, you can learn from the Twittering errors of others and avoid common or unintentional missteps that might damage your credibility online and off.... Read Full Article

Just read the article, "Is Twitter Part Of Your Small Business Marketing Strategy".

Sure is filled with golden nuggets especially this  "It's important to think about your customer/prospect base. It's not what YOU think is important, but what your customer/prospects do."

Would like to see discussion on How this is being done.

Any Network Marketer who uses Twitter knows that it is a powerful way to connect with other "tweeters" who are interested in Network Marketing, Direct Sales, MLM etc. so long as you find the right people.

So exactly how is it possible to capture the fraction of the 30 million (and growing) tweeters who are potential prospects? How can you get followers who actually read your tweets, click your links and even retweet (RT) your tweets for you? How can you get across your message in less than 140 characters?

1. Get followers from outside of Twitter - talk to people on other social networks you may be on e.g. Facebook, and get them to connect with you on there. If you already have prospects on a different social network and you want to get to know them better, then get tweeting right away!

2. Send Direct Messages (DMs) to new followers - this is a fantastic way to welcome new followers. When sending a DM, just make sure to thank them for following you and let them know that you want to connect with them on Twitter. Basically write what you want - but NEVER post a link or any promotion. A blog link is acceptable but unlikely to get a big response, so there's not much point.

Note: there is a free service that lets you send DMs automatically and rotate between messages - visit SocialOomph's website.

3. Connect with your new followers by sending @ replies - you can build relationships this way - just ask them how they are, what they are into etc. and just try and connect with them. Keep in contact with them - they might even reply to you after you send a DM.

4. Only link to your personal blog (if applicable) and put up a personal background - by doing this, you will make your profile look more professional and make you stand out from all the marketing clutter on Twitter. I rarely post links in my tweets - apart from new blog posts, I don't link to much else.

To summarize, Twitter is a great marketing tool. Just make sure to lead with value, connect with other tweeters and avoid anything to do with Twitter spammers, bots and automated programs (except the automated DM - which is like having an autoresponder but on Twitter).

From an online promotion perspective and according to Google, their search engine treats Twitter links and Facebook links just as any others coming from different websites. So, if anyone aims to get lots of traffic from Twitter it will only happen if they keep on posting regularly and having people following them.

As the majority of links from Twitter have the "nofollow" attribute, I personally don't see it as a major "strategic" online marketing tool unless someone has a lot of time to spend, or (and now the clever part ;) ) build  a Twitter bot which will keep posting their customized tweets while they sleep.

All best!

The article is good but lacks any solutions.  What would you suggest as far as what to do to increase traffic using twitter?

I believe one of the best way to give good content to your followers, is to find other people's  websites with good quality information, write a tweet about that site and put their link.

It's best to tweet about other people's stuff as well as your own.  Say, for example, tweet 6 times for someone else, and 1 time to your own blog post.

There are ways of automating the tweeting process a little (not completely).

One way, is to use  hootsuite.com

With hootsuite.com you can schedule a number of posts to go out at different times. So, once a week, you could spend about 15 minutes finding good content and scheduling links to each piece of content.

BTW, some of that content could be the posts here.  If you post a good quality reply to a post, and you really like the original post, then tweet about that.  This way, you get credit for your reply also.

Have fun with it!

I've find hash tweets (e.g. #twitter) to be very useful in order to find relevant information on different topics. You not only get a list of recent tweets on your particular topic, you have the option of connecting with like minded people in this way.

Some pretty good articles here, thanks for sharing everyone!

I agree that many people on twitter are not active, they just building their user base to continuously post links to their products.
I personally find useful to run contests. You will spend some money $50-100, but you can attract serious people. The place I currently work at does lots of contests on Twitter and attract many people who will do anything for money. This might be one of the best investments you will ever do.

Hi,
Twitter allows you to post updated Tweets as often as you want and limited to 140 characters. When you follow other people on Twitter, you see their tweets. When they follow you, they see your tweets.

It’s a constant stream of message. The good news is you can turn it on or off as often as you like. Twitter also keeps a public record of all updates.

Following the right people on Twitter was key. There are some people very gifted at building relationships on Twitter. As I followed these online community builders, I realized that some of them are also excellent direct response copywriters. They get their Twitter followers to take action.

Thanks

Twitter is very useful.

Here is a list of ways in which Twitter is being used as marketing channel. 1. Customer Support
Customer support is considered as the best use of Twitter as marketing tool Customers talk positively and negatively about brands on Twitter. If negative comments or complaints are turned into positive outcomes, they will in turn be shared by the happy customers with many followers and help the brands obtain positive word of mouth. Comcast, Intuit & Telstra are some of the brands that benefited from using Twitter for their customer support.
2. Customer Research
Though reaching the customers directly through Twitter may seem to be a difficult task for many companies but it doesn’t mean that they can’t derive the real benefit of Twitter as a marketing tool. Definitely they can use the Twitters search to find out what their customers are saying about their brands and get instant feedback for free.
3. Informing
Twitter can be a major resource forproviding real time information and instant updates. This was well illustrated in the disaster of Mumbai where different people interconnect and receive useful updates quickly. Twitter is commonly used in the sports arena too, where teams like Chicago bulls give their team scores live and updates online in real time. Even companies like TDS used Twitter as an informing tool to update its customers about service outages. However, it is important to note that using Twitter to inform works best only if the information is valuable.
4. Promoting
Twitter has become a popular base for promotions, much like email marketing many companies have used to send offers to its subscribers and have gained a lot of exposure and sales from it. Dell claims it has obtained $1million revenue from Twitter promotions alone. If customers like or love your products or services, they will definitely follow you on Twitter.
5. Building Community Discussion
Community discussions are major contribution for marketing and spreading news word of the mouth via Twitter are helping lots of organizations to improve their business. Marketers have been using hash tags to aggregate community discussions and hash tags have become more popular than ever on Twitter as more brands utilize them.
6. Branding
Many organizations are using twitter to reiterate their brands to existing customers or to a new generation of users.

Hey folks.

Want to throw in my 2c here. Twitter can be a great marketing strategy. It can also be a time sink if you don't really know how to leverage it effectively.

One of the stats you don't really hear mentioned is that over 30% of new twitterers drop off within about a month.

I have three different accounts with over 10k followers. And I made a lot of mistakes before I figured out a process.
But just because you have a ton of followers doesn't mean you have INFLUENCE over them.

With that said the best way to use Twitter right now IMHO is to use it as a listbuilding strategy to get folks ON as followers and TRANSFER them as quickly as possible onto a page to capture them as LEADS where you get to control how and when you continuously communicate with them. This can be a blog where you have a pop up squeeze page and/or a separate squeeze page all together.

Internet marketers all know that a building a list is the cornerstone of all their online marketing efforts.

So yes Twitter can be used for promotion, for lead generation etc., but don't SPAM.

And while you're listbuilding you can use Twitter is to brand YOU as an expert.

That means GIVING and providing good quality content that helps to solve their problems at least as much as you promote your primary business.

When it comes down to it, people are really joining you and not your mlm company.

So there's nothing wrong with automating your efforts either like auto following and auto DMing IMHO as long as its good quality content.

You can provide a ratio of say 5-10 good quality content posts to one promotion whether it be an event, link to your blog page or whatever you're promoting.

Crush it,

Carlos

I agree hootsuite is cool. I was using them for a while.
I also like TweetAdder but their software can be a little slow sometimes. Tweetdeck is also on the same level as hootsuite. HS is a web based app, whereas TweetDeck is a desktop app but both have versions for the Iphone!

Both are valuable additions to your twitter management efforts.

I run hot and cold on Twitter but one thing I hear from a lot of of people is that they enjoy a little variety in the content of the people they follow. Even those that follow certain individuals for their info in certain areas of expertise enjoy a little break in the action with a humorous note, solicitation of their opinion or even the goings on of a fellow tweeter. Obviously the person who tweets nothing but a link to their own business initiative is either unfollowed or ignored relatively quickly.

If you really want to make an impression when they follow you drop them a DM with a thank you and something you like about what they do. It opens lines of communication and the chance to get more @ replies. Then their followers will take a peek to see who you are increasing your audience.

It's as easy to use Twitter ineffectively as it is to use it effectively. Make the right choices. Oh...people will look to see who follows you and who you follow so I recommend you block all the little teens and tarts with the sexy avatars and block them from your follow if you want to appear professional.

Linking to your blog page and not including sellers links in every tweet I think endears you to your followers a little more then the spammers or constant stream of links that get sent.  I have removed moved most of them from my list and I know my followers do the same if thats all I ever sent.

Send a variety of personal and business links mixing it up and I think you'll see better success.
