Hi Ya'll,
Ever thought of owning your own forum?
Look at this one. Think it's a great idea?
It seems like every Tom, Dick and Harriett now owns their own Ezine or Newsletter. So where are savvy marketers looking to gain their next competitive edge?
Here's the answer...
... They're setting up their own Discussion Forums!
Almost overnight discussion forums have become an essential weapon in the armory of every successful online marketer.
And that's no surprise when you consider that some of the big marketing forums are now attracting 4 million page visits per month.
Just look around....MLMForums.com, marketingpitbull.net, onlinemlm.com, mlm.com, networks at Ryze.com...just to name a few. These are receiving thousands of visitors per day.
But How Do Forum Visitors Equate To Profits For You?
Okay I hear you say... so forums can drive a massive amount of traffic, but how does that help me make money through internet marketing?
Actually in pretty much the same way as owning a credible Newsletter can build your wealth and, over time, generate a healthy income for you.
You see, as the owner and moderator of a forum, your credibility will grow fast and before you know it...visitors will be hanging on your every word.
From that point onwards, it doesn't take a massive leap of the imagination to appreciate how this kind of POWER can lead to increased profits for you.
All you now need to do is quietly talk about the right products and services and others will likely pile in. If you like, it's a subtle form of product placement.
Plus of course, since you own the forum, you have the opportunity to include your own banner ads or text links to every thread or page. Look around the forums mentioned above. What do you see?
BUT... just like the responsible newsletter editor, you MUST ensure that you are recommending only the BEST products and services. Otherwise you'll quickly lose all your credibility . Oh and your forum audience and regular posters will disappear too.
Owning Your Own Forum Can Have Other Spinoffs
* With A Forum You Can Answer Any Question Just Once
If you find yourself in the position of repeatably being asked the exact same question about your product or service, then a forum can provide a place for you to post the answer once and for all. After that you'll just refer people to your forum thread on the subject.
* Others Will Answer Questions For You
A bunch of enthusiasts will most likely gather at your forum and act as an external customer services facility for you. Your forum can cut your workload dramatically.
* Showcase New & Upcoming Products
You can release information about your forthcoming projects to the folks at your own forum before anywhere else. It's a trusted community where you can get valuable thoughts and feedback before launching to the public at large.
So What Are The Downsides To Running Your Own Forum?
Well you'll need to devote a certain amount of time to monitoring the posts and ensuring that SPAM isn't turning up on your forum. Naturally it will, so you'll need to delete it. Ignore your discussion board and you'll quickly discover that it has been filled with worthless JUNK posts and this will immediately devalue the board.
Newsgroups have been around since before the dawn of the internet - so you may well be asking yourself: "Why are they really *hot* now?"
Traditional Newsgroups used to require special software to access and even though they have been popularized through Google, they're gradually losing their importance.
At the same time anyone who can set up a website can now set up their own forum - so they're here to stay and naturally "switched-on" marketers are taking full advantage.
Again...look at this one.....perfect example.
So how about you?
God Bless,
Michael

Forums are great. They take time to build but if they're for a subject you love, they're well worth the work.
I have 2 of my own at PowerfulIntentions.com and wouldn't give them up for anything.

I guess we all come around sooner or later. A long time participant, I now moderate. Not up to running one but who knows what could happen in the future?
Rumor is I'll be blogging before Christmas! "Who'd a thunk it."

Yeah, I love forums too, and even though like Brian said they take a long time to build, it doesn't matter if it's a topic one loves.
They are a great place to meet people too. I have a Scuba Diving forum and have met some great people I'm going to dive with one day!

Hi Michael,
You're absolutely right about the benefits of forums, but I really didn't realize it until quite recently. I had an advertising forum set up on Ryze for the longest time and didn't pay much attention to it (yes, this was during my 'make no money online' phase), but have started reviving it in the last several months. Now that I have really started seeing the benefits of discussion forums, I really want to move into that arena as well. You look at a forum such as this one, and you are really able to bring together some great network marketing minds and a lot of combined experience. Totally invaluable if you ask me! Besides, I really like to 'hear' myself talk
Thanks again!

Everything Michael said is true.
Forums can be a great benefit.
But that's only half the story.
They can be a real time and energy sink when you're trying to start one. There's nothing quite as dismal as a forum with only one person writing and a few people commenting now and then. It can be a lonely place when you're building it.
Most forums will never reach that critical point where they are worth the effort. It takes a technical person to keep it running and at least a half-dozen people writing regularly to make it start drawing visitors.
Most people would be better served to find a good forum, like HomeBasedBusinessForums.com, and spend your time and energy participating and doing your best to make the forum grow and prosper.
I participate on several forums on PowerfulIntentions.com and I meet a lot of very smart, friendly, and helpful people that way. I have a couple of forums there, but they suffer from my burst-mode work habits. Forums grow best with slow and stady efforts and need people posting to them every day. I get stuck in development-mode or exhausted-mode and don't get around to my own forums often enough.
In addition to my two forums at PowerfulIntentions.com, I have six others where I'm about the only participant. Five of them are listed on my Intro page at http://johndilbeck.powerfulintentions.com and, if you see one you like, you're invited to jump right in. The water's comfortable, and I've already cleared out the rocks and debris.
Wherever we meet, I get a warm feeling when I see one of my friends -- like Michael, Julieanne, Jeff, and Brian -- in one of the forums I visit.
It's a pleasure sharing what I know with them, and learning what they so generously share with me and anyone else who drops in for a visit.
If you can create and sustain a high-quality forum, it will be a great asset and a pleasure.
All the best,
JD

Forums are great to have as the contents get updated with fresh content that cater well to the search engines. Reality check is that John's sentence holds true.

For those of you who are worried and rather intimidated by the time commitment
required when starting a new forum, you might want to consider becoming a moderator
for an already established network. This will give you some experience in being an
adminstrator, running topics, and give you some online credibility. Once you're ready,
you can always branch off to your own thing. Just make sure you find a forum that
completely exemplifies your own business philosophy before attaching your name to it.
Yours in Greater Success,
Merideth

I'm just getting back into things after the holidays, and knew I'd find some inspiration here. Thanks for the great advice. I've been wanting to set up a small forum for my business, but wasn't sure where to begin. I'll check out Powerful Intentions (having heard good things about them elsewhere too.)
Happy 2007 to all!

Hi Haim,
Well, you're better off sticking with a smaller size font as it is easier and fits the threads but it's entirely your choice.
It's great that you've set up your blog. Don't worry your list will get bigger and bigger as time goes by. You just need to learn how to drive traffic to your website and improve your conversion ratio in order to reach out to more and more people.
Take care and stay focused - yes, never give up!

This is certainly a good idea but, it seems very time consuming if some one does not know where to start. Like myself.

I started a forum at http://www.meetchristians.ca where I advertise my affiliate programs, discuss things about Christianity and give Christians a place to meet and give their views. It is 5 days old and have 11 members I believe. Most of these have come from link exchanges and advertising online.
Forums do work well for info exchange

I agree Rencal,
For me forums (good ones) are a great way to get all the information you require.
It's where I look to for truthful answers
Thanks

One of the biggest challeges of running a forum is the fact that people can purchase software that submits spam to forums and it is extremely difficult to put a stop to this.
My experience with one of my forums (I currently have 3 going) was once these spammers found a way in they simply deluged the forum with posts by automation and all kinds of lewd topics. Even though I set the registration to require confirmation by email and the typing in of the symbols on an image, they still poured in. Finally I made registration have to be approved by admin and even then I get 2 or 3 per day that I have to go in a delete.
If you do a google search on the kind of software for posting on forums like this, they brag that they can get around virtually any kind of security device we set up.
I run one forum on WOWBB like this one is on and I haven't had as much trouble. Only recently I had to ban an IP address. Apparently some of the codes are much easier to find or get into.

Yes forums are great I belong to as many as six forums and run my own as well. Most hosting companies provide you with a software that can easily install the forum for you.
All you will need to do after you install the software is to create the categories and discussion boards. After that you just need to moderate and drive traffic to the forum.
NB: I need moderators for my Day Trading and Investments forum, please contact me if you're interested.
Regards,
George
