Well I have given it some thought lately and my only concern is getting it up to critical mass, so to speak.
I would be interested if anyone had ideas on how to attract a few (20) good participants to it, to get the ball rolling.
I did have one idea concerning this. It involves offering a few chosen writers free ad space for their contributions to the forum. Now is this a good idea or will I suffer hair loss?
Any ideas on this, thanks.

I don't see how it would benifit your advertisers...beings that you don't have any traffic yet...I'm not sure how long you have been participating in forums but if you had some friends from other forums ... just explain that you need some help getting things going and I'm sure they would be willing to help you...just have to ask!
btw...I think a better idea might be to offer free ad space after you get going to the people who help participate before you get up to "critical mass"...I would be willing to help for that...
Let me know what you think!

Yes, I guess I was not very clear. In the beginning it would not be much of an offer. It would have to be a longer term commitment and offer. I would put one or two people (staff) on it to watch the Spam, and keep it clean.
What I want is a good way to get it to critical mass, and I am willing to share the rewards of owning a good forum with those who help me get it there.
It is on my drawing board now, but I will not jump into it until I feel I have all my ducks in a row. It could be 2-3 months out there. I have my programmer working on two major sites now and unless I do it myself or find another person to put the site together....
When it goes, I want it to fly. I am looking for a girl now that I can train to run it. And once I have this person in place and I can see she can be reliable, I will have a major step forward. I have no time to watch a forum and I have no desire to run it half way.
I will keep you in mind, any ideas or input you or anyone has would be GREAT. And thanks for the clarification.
God Bless,
Bruce -MM

No doubt forum is another good place to sound your opinion.
I agree that it will slowly replace some others like newsgroup.

Merideth, how does one become a moderator? I might be interested, but don't know how or what it involves. Can you explain? Also, i see another North Carolinian in here, how's the weather out there in Murphy?

There is no secret behind the fact that marketing plays a vital role in your home based business. While there is not one method that is guaranteed to generate a heavy traffic flow for your business, forums is among the elite. Simply posting in forums can bring more traffic to your site than most believe.
There are several benefits to posting in forums over using other marketing techniques. First, there is no charge whatsoever to post in forums. A lot of people getting into internet marketing are looking to make money, not spend it. There is not a penny you will have to spend in order to post your opinion.
While the more traffic you receive the better, it is even more important that you generate a targeted group of people. These are the people that are already interested in what you have to offer. It makes if far easier to make a sell if they are already interested. There are hundreds of thousands of forums on the internet giving you the ability to pick and choose which ones to post in.
Because of the abundance of forums, you will find many are specific toward a category. This allows you to make posts in a forum that is geared toward the niche you are in. The more you are in these forums the more people will want to come to your site. In doing so, you will have generated targeted traffic to your home based business.
Many forms of marketing on the internet do not allow you to express yourself or your business. Link trading just puts your link on other people’s web sites. Paying to put your banner on someone else’s site just gets your link on other sites as well. Posting in forums allows you to open up and discuss various topics with people similar to you. Not only can you market your business in forums, but you can also build relationships and possibly even partners.
There is no denying the power forums have over all other forms of marketing. But in order to take full advantage of this, you have to be committed. Posting in a forum once a week will not cut it. You have to be willing to find five or ten forums to post in every day. At lease one post a day should be made, if not more. Just know the more you post the more recognizable you will become, which leads to further traffic to your home based business.
