The New Year always seems to bring out everyone's inner idealist: we resolve to live smarter, healthier, happier, more stress-free.....
Many business owners focus on ways to improve their profits while operating more efficiently.
Of course, you and I both know that embracing permission-based email marketing by starting a campaign or improving an existing one is a proven way to do exactly that.
And at this early stage of the year, you may be looking eagerly for strategies that can help you profit in 2008 and beyond. Tips and resources to help you grow your businesses through email may be just the ticket.
With that in mind, I've got a few ideas for you to run with to apply to your target market.
If you're new to email marketing it's common to run into two simple snags:
- How to turn website visitors into subscribers
- What to write in your emails
Tip: AWebber has helped businesses answer these and other "How Do I Get Started?" questions for over 9 years. To take advantage of that experience and learn from the best .... take advantage of their free live "How To" seminars to help get your email marketing campaigns rolling:
Live "How to Get Started" Video Seminar
In these hour-long video teleconferences, AWebber has shown thousands of businesses how easy it is to get an email campaign up and running.
Tip: Those who can't attend a live session can view a recording of a past session, But if at all possible you should attend the live session so you can get your questions answered live!
Getting Started Guide (PDF)
Tip: The above downloadable guide is a useful supplement to what you'll learn in the "How to Get Started" video seminar.
Tip: If you're a more experienced marketer ..... ready to dig deeper and looking to optimize your current campaigns ..... you'll love learning more about deliverability, blogging, multichannel marketing, list-building and more on AWebber's blog.
For example, they recently started discussing the importance of creating an email marketing calendar to communicate with subscribers in a more deliberate, timely manner. As with all the discussions/articles in the blog ......after reading it, you can register to be notified when new posts come out.
Tip: You may also want to view some of the more advanced video seminars AWebber has run.
Tip: AWebber's goal is to help small businesses grow through effective, responsible email marketing. To do that, they need to know that they're hitting the issues you are concerned about.
If there are any email marketing topics that you want to know about .... but that they haven't covered, just let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
God Bless,
Michael

Email marketing is the most effective marketing devise you can use to get the best returns in your business. It is the fluid that keeps your online business alive. Without it, your business is dead.
Imagine having an online client base of 1,000 people who subscribed for your services once. If you do not email them after 2 weeks or more after initial contact, they will forget you, because everyone of us receive hundreds of emails coming from different people each day.
Attention is very scarce in the information age, that is why you have to do your best to use email marketing to turbo charge your online marketing. For you to effectively build an online business that will last for long, you need to impress upon the minds of your subscribers your name and brand, so that you will be given attention when they find your messages in their inbox.
That way you will get the highest response from every single email you send out. To make your email marketing very effective, these are the rules you should follow.
1. Increase your open rate.
The only way you can get up to 40 - 50% open rate in your email campaign is by making sure that all the messages you send out are in line with the objectives of your market.
Your subscribers got onto your mailing list for one reason, to learn or get a tip from you on a particular subject. Your focus should be to publish good contents only in this area of interest.
As long as you continue to provide top notch information, you will notice that your email open rates will increase. You can even recommend a product along the line, when you do this, your customers will not see your recommendations as a sales effort as long as it is in line with the good information you provide.
2. Limit the frequency of your email
A healthy email marketing strategy is to send email to your subscribers at least 1 - 3 times per week. If you have good information always, your email will be profitable and you wont bore your subscribers with so many emails.
3. Include the Can Spam campaign.
To make your email legal and non spammy, include your contact information at the end of every email you send. Most autoresponder and email management solutions have provisions for this. Do well to use them.
4. Allow for unsubscribes.
Give every subscriber an opportunity to remove himself from your email list if he decides that he doesn't want to receive your emails any more. That way, you are really living up to the ethics of legal email marketing.
5. Work on your subject line.
Your subject line can make or break your email marketing campaign. Put some little effort on your subject line. Your subject line must be catchy, straight forward, attractive and yet be a summary of the content of your email in a short but sweet way. If your subject says a different thing with your email, you will disappoint your subscribers and your open rate will plummet considerably.

One of the most powerful marketing lessons I learned from Dan Kennedy is this: "Good sales copy pulls results, whether it's web copy, PDF, audio, or email. Never underestimate the power of salesmaship in print"
In this post, I want to concentrate a bit about email.
In order to actually make money online, you need to know how to write emails. If you do not know how to write emails effectively then your chances to make money are limited.
Learning how to write emails that cause prospects to buy from you or join your opportunity is not hard, it just takes practice.
For starters, you must know what your audience wants.
When you are learning how to write emails that make money be sure to speak to your readers as you would to a friend.
Be on point, courteous, and write in a simple to understand structure.
Always personalize your emails so that your readers get the impression of a one on one relationship. When you are practicing on how to write emails that make money, one of the best things you can do is to make sure you nurture a relationship with your readers.
Relationship building is of the highest order when learning how to write emails that make money. Stay away from cheap marketing ploys that look misleading in the eyes of your prospects. It will only breed suspicion.
Instead, be a straight shooter and earn their trust.
That is how the real money is being made.
(Of course, using psychological triggers is a vital part of your email marketing efforts. But that's an entire topic in itself).
You can read every article, book, or report available on how to write emails that make money, and you will see that in each and every publication, it states pretty much the same thing as this very article does.
One of the best resources I found about this topic is the classic "Million Dollar Emails" by Yanik Silver. (this is not a sales promotion). You can go search the net for it in case you haven't read it yet.

yes you are right. I have Dan Kennedy's book and it is great. I have also listened to and read materials by Yanik Silver and I have made changes in the way I promote via email because of their materials.

Verniel, Bellabudy,
I also believe in the art of writing sales letters or emails. They definitely work on me, who regularly got caught joining businesses I don't know anything about. Or buy ebooks I've no time to read. Few days later I realize my mistake and go back to my source business.
About emails: to whom do you write them ? Can you share some tips to someone who has no list ?
Thanks a lot guys. I am new here and like to read those good infos.
Matt

You must carefully choose an appropriate email subject. Remember, your goal is not to create an award winning title that will win a Pulitzer or something. Your one and only objective in the email subject is to cause your readers to want to click and open the email.
To have an effective email subject, as a general rule, it should not look like an advertisement but rather a real , personal email message. Think of the kind of email subjects you receive from your real-life friends. Those are the kinds of email subjects that will be effective in your email marketing campaigns.
If you write email subjects like "How To Achieve Financial Freedom", or "Make MOney In 30 Days Or Less", chances are, people will delete it instantly. Instead, use email subjects like "I just came home from Miami", or "Some freebies from a new CD I just ripped". Be creative though, and study real email subjects that caused you to click and want to read promotional emails.
Another thing that you have to put in mind is getting your email past the spam filters. Do you know that there are certain words and phrases that instantly pick the attention of email spam filters? This will cause your message to be directly trashed to the bulk email folder.
Don't use all caps in any part of your email, especially the word "FREE". Too many long links, and broken spaces may also cause your emails to be blocked instantly. Some email services are now blocking the word "Spam" itself. A good alternative to the word "Spam" is "unsolicited mail", or simply not use that word at all in the email body.

How to Survey Customers With Google Docs
Surveying customers and prospects is a valuable way for businesses to learn what products and services to provide, as well as how their markets perceive them.
However, while there have been services in the past that offered limited free surveying tools, for the most part running surveys has cost money that many businesses simply didn't have or weren't willing to spend.
Here's the good news: last week Google introduced a new option to help businesses run surveys, -- for free, and as simply as putting a link in an email.
To see how easy surveying is here's a short video.
More Email Advice: Send Video Emails Reliably
If you've ever experimented with video emails, you know that embedding them directly in your email content simply doesn't work - most email programs will strip out or disable the Flash and JavaScript required to play them.
However, that doesn't mean you can't send video emails!
But here's some tips on how to easily send video emails and ensure reliable playback.
If you'd like to keep up on more email tips like this as they come out, sign up for the Aweber blog's email newsletter .
God Bless,
Michael

Email Marketing: How To Actually Get Your Emails Delivered And Read
Have you read the "death of email" type articles recently or seen the SaveOurEmailNow.com campaign?
While email marketing is far from dead... there is a major flaw to it.
You see, we come from communication channels such as regular postal mail and
the telephone.
If we send a letter, it's very unlikely that the mail would be lost. This DOES happen but it's certainly very infrequent.
If we place a call, we know that our message is getting across.
The problem...
The majority of consumers (including YOUR target prospects and clients) assume that they are receiving all important emails that they should (such as upgrades for their purchase, download links for a new purchase, and more).
And marketers, being the lazy bunch that most of us are, tend to put MINIMAL effort into proper email marketing strategies even though we keep hearing about "the money is in the list" over and over and over and over again.
The truth is, legitimate emails get filtered out as Junk/Spam or blocked entirely on a too regular basis.
The result?
*Pissed off* customers who are wondering where their purchase confirmation email is... or where the download link for their new purchase is... or where the promised bonuses are... or why you didn't reply to their support question (of course, you DID.... they just didn't receive it).
Remember: consumers barely even understand how the opt*in / subscribe / broadcast email systems work. Many of them still believe you are sending them emails directly. And they certainly assume that ALL of your emails to them should arrive in their inbox and all of THEIR emails to you should be reaching you.
Add on what lazy marketers do (or don't do!).
It never seizes to amaze me when I come across a great opt*in offer (or squeeze page), I opt*in, a double confirmation is required but instead of "selling" me on the fact that I need to check my email and confirm my information request AND instead of making it VERY simple for me to white-list that publisher, all I end up looking at is a standard 1-line blurb about all this.
Let me paint a very clear picture for you if YOU are making this same
mistake.
Suppose each new lead/subscriber is worth $1 per month to you. That's a common rule of thumb value. It doesn't really matter WHAT the number is, so let's use $1 for the math.
1000 prospects visit your page per week.
350 opt*in.
Of those, only 250 actually double-confirm because you used a lazy 1-line blurb on your double confirmation page instead of "selling" them on making sure they click the confirmation link.
AND ...
Since you didn't give them very simple white-listing instructions, only 200 of those 350 actually receive your emails because their ISPs or Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail and other ESP accounts are filtering your messages as spam or blocking them altogether.
Based on $1 of income per month per subscriber...
You are leaking 350-200 = 150 x $1 = $150 PER WEEK (based on the above
example).
Do your own math. How much money are you bleeding each month??
==> YOU MAY NEED PROFESSIONAL HELP!
Isn't it time you got a bit more education on how to maximize your double confirmations and email deliverability?
That's easy ..... you can do that here: Email Marketing Tips
God Bless,
Michael

How To Build Your Email List Faster With a Lightbox Web Form
Just wanted to let you know about a new feature AWeber released this week to help you build your lists faster.
For more details and a short (less than 2 minutes!) video on it.... go to:
Build Your List Faster
Getting website visitors to notice your form is a critical part of building your list.
You may already be creating popover-style forms that slide or fade into your web page. They're a great alternative to traditional popups for getting people to consider signing up to your email newsletter.
The new lightbox forms from AWeber further focus your visitors' attention on your form by "greying out" the remainder of your page until the visitor either subscribes or closes the popover form (which is easy for them to do - they just click "close" or hit the ESC key on their keyboard).
By greying out the screen they draw the viewer's attention to the signup form (since it's the only thing not greyed out).
Pretty cool, right?
God Bless,
Michael

What's "The Numbers" For Email Marketing Response Rates .... When Are Your Emails Most Likely To Be Opened?
Do you ever ask yourself about what kind of response rate you should expect or aim for with your email marketing campaigns?
While it's obviously impossible to give one answer to this question that suits everyone, sharing the results of others can help to give new email marketers a target to aim for.
Recently, AWeber compiled data on the open rates that their users were getting for their email newsletters and published the results to their blog.
Key Open Rate Stats: April 2008

Average Open Rate Last Month: 13.6%

Day with Highest Open Rates: Thursday (14.52%)

Hour with Highest Open Rates: 2-3PM Eastern Time (19.1%)
See More Open Rate Stats
This Doesn't Mean Everyone Should Send on Thursday at 2PM
As AWeber points out in their blog post, just because the latest open rate stats suggest that Thursday is the best day, or that 2-3PM is the best hour, doesn't mean that will be the best day/time for everyone.
One of the key lessons here is not to make assumptions, or to take others' word for when to send.
Statistics are great for deciding when to start sending, but using AWeber's split testing tools is the best way to determine the ideal day and time to send your email newsletter.
Benchmarks like these also can provide inspiration for new email marketers - if you can get open rates like AWeber users are now (and if you follow the tips and ideas on the AWeber blog and in the Aweber Knowledge Base, I'm sure you can!), then you too will be on yourr way to email success.
More Stats And Commentary.
God Bless,
Michael

How to Market Effectively With Email
Email is the communication tool of the 21st century. Not having an email address is quickly becoming the equivalent of not having a phone number. However, many people lack an understanding of how to effectively market and grow your home business with email. In order to make email work for you there are some basic rules and some not so basic rules that you must follow. Here are ten ideas on how to make your email profitable and work for you to increase your business.
1. Always use an autoresponder with opt-in. There is way too much spam out there today and people get really sick and tired of it. Failing to use an autoresponder with your email is like randomly calling people on the phone without following any kind of rules or paying attention to the do not call list. You can easily end up in trouble with your internet service provider, or even worse with the government or with big fines. I find that many people are willing to opt-in if you can prove to them that it is worth their while to do so and if you simply ask them to do so.
2. Make sure that you give your web site visitors more than one chance to join your list. This means including an opt-in box on all the pages of your website and maybe even in the middle of the text somewhere. Make it easy for people to find your opt-in box and take the action to join your list.
3. Give people a specific reason to join your list. Tell them what they will receive from you when they join. You can even offer your potential subscribers a free ebook or some other incentive for joining.
4. Make sure that the messages you send to your subscribers stay on topic and that you actually give them the promised information.
5. Pay attention to the frequency of your emails. While you do not want to go too long without sending out an email, you also do not want to send your emails too often. I find that every 4-7 days is good unless you are offering a newsletter and then you will want to develop a set schedule and make absolutely certain that you send our your newsletters when you say you are going to.
6. Focus your emails on selling yourself and not just your business and products. People want to get to know you and what you have to offer that is different and unique and how you can help them, not just about what you are trying to sell them.
7. Include a call to action at the end of each email. It can be an invitation to look at a website, purchase a product, give you a call with your phone number, listen to an opportunity call or anything else relevant to the content of your message.
8. Work on making the subject line in your email relevant, interesting and catchy. This is the first think your readers see and so it must catch their attention in order to get them interested.
9. Avoid including too many ads or promotions for more than one product in your emails. This confuses people and will turn them off and cause them to unsubscribe.
10. Include a survey or a comments box on your unsubscribe page and take note of the reasons why people unsubscribe and take action to resolve the issues or make changes in accordance with the feedback you are receiving.
Follow the above tips to your email success and watch your sales soar and your online relationships improve.

For an autoresponder that fits all of the criteria above (including VERY cost effective) .... I can wholeheartedly recommend this one: Professional Autoresponder
Email marketing is the most effective marketing devise you can use to get the best returns in your business. It is the fluid that keeps your online business alive. Without it, your business is dead.

Here are some of my thoughts on building a responsive optin list.......
It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish for yourself with your primary business.
You need to be absolutely crystal clear in your own mind what your "Why" is. This is because in order to design and implement an effective list building strategy you must target the correct market with content that will either help them solve a problem or accomplish the goal.
Providing quality, useful content on a frequent basis is critical. Get to know your market, your audience and what drives them, what motivates them.
For example, if your audience and market are other network marketers, they will NOT be interested in looking at your business. In fact, if you try to market your business to them, without offering any useful information or tools to help them build your business, you will lose almost all of your potential prospects.
On the other hand, if your target market is business opportunity seekers, you can also lose them by solely marketing your primary business. These prospects are usually wary of scams and hype. They often do not know how to start a home based business, market online, network offline, etc.
So, no matter who your audience is, educate them by providing useful content.
That said, if you offer a system that anyone can duplicate and that system includes an easy to use autoresponder, you will attract many prospects. I market a generic funded sponsoring system that teaches people how to advertise for free (via a funded proposal) and attract serious educated prospects for their primary network marketing businesses.
When you take this approach, you then develop a large list of opt in subscribers and let the system weed out the tire kickers and lookers. You can then properly market your primary network marketing business to only those who have proven they are serious, educated and qualified.

There's been some pretty big changes to AWeber in the past month.
In addition to a website redesign, they've rolled out a brand new set of features designed to help businesses better understand, track, segment and communicate with subscribers.
Email Web Analytics, help email marketers to tailor their messaging to their subscribers' specific needs and wants.
A few things you can see with these tools:

Which messages individual subscribers open and click from

Where on your site they go after the click

Which products they buy -- and how much they spend
While this knowledge is useful in and of itself, AWeber users can go even a step further:
Not only can AWeber users see what their subscribers are doing, they can segment subscribers based on their activity and send targeted, unique emails to different groups!
To see more of what these tools can do see the blog post announcing this release.
Users can display their own domain, but still track clicks in AWeber.
To see how this works, click the video below.

If you have any questions about these new features, just get in touch with AWeber and they'll be happy to help.
God Bless,
Michael

Responsible Marketing vs. Spam
Maybe this has happened to you before: you start to recommend email marketing to a friend, explaining how it can help to turn one-time website visitors into leads and lifelong customers, only to be interrupted with "I don't know. Isn't that just spam?".
This kind of reaction can take us by surprise. How do you respond to a question like this which seems to pose a huge obstacle for someone whose business could really benefit from email marketing?
Email is used for many purposes. Unfortunately, we have to acknowledge that one of them is spam (unsolicited or unwanted email).
But there are other, more responsible practices that boost sales and provide a true service to subscribers employed by very successful marketers and business owners.
Still, most people need to see what responsible marketing really is to believe that it works.
Fortunately ..... you can do that.
Have you ever sat in on the AWeber How to Get Started live seminar? If you have, you know that in under an hour it explains everything needed to start an email campaign.
Simply tune in and they'll explain what email marketing is, why it works, and how you can get started right away
God Bless,
Michael

FreedomFire wrote: Maybe this has happened to you before: you start to recommend email marketing to a friend, explaining how it can help to turn one-time website visitors into leads and lifelong customers, only to be interrupted with "I don't know. Isn't that just spam?".
It's a knee-jerk reaction these days, as spam floods the internet, and one has to blacklist addresses or utilize stronger filters to keep the spam to a minimum. An effective response to such an objection would include a bit of education...
"Spam is unsolicited email, whereas email marketing involves sending email to existing customers and those who opt-in via your website. Each email sent out contains an opt-OUT option, making it legal and spam-free."
Overcoming the objection in such a manner makes the process of explaining benefits easier.
People choose to join your list when you make it 1) easy to do so and 2) appealing to do so (they see the "what's in it for me factor". They'll stay on your list and you will see a positive return on your campaigns if you provide compelling and usefull content in your emails. Be wary of sending something just to "stay in their face"... every email must have a clear purpose and goal. Frequency and schedule are issues to consider- once per month at a regular time of the month is usually sufficient for most businesses. This gives your recipients something to look forward to, and they know from past emails that your content will be important to them.

Creating great-looking emails can be challenging, especially if (like me) you're not artistically inclined.
Fortunately, there's a few guys at AWeber who are artistically inclined... and they've created 27 new HTML email templates to help you create colorful, branded, response-boosting campaigns. You can read about it on their email marketing tips blog.
Check Out the New Templates
God Bless,
Michael
