Hello There

I should start by introducing myself. My name is Patrick Bankay and I have been marketing online for some time now and have spent so much money on a bunch of garbage that I wish I never bought before. I am sure a lot of you can relate.

Even though I hate all that, there is one good thing that came out of the situation and that is the experince and expertise that I now have on almost every subject when it comes to online marketing, some of which include:

Now when you say optimize I can only assume you mean for search engines to be able to pick up your sites and list them.

For search engine optimization you should take these steps and in this particular order:
  1. Find out the most important keywords that you would like your website to show up in, in a search engine. Make sure your website is related to those keywords (this is a biggie).
  2. Now what you want to do is include those keywords in your website as much as possible without actually "spamming" your site with the keywords. So dont stick the keywords where they do not belong make sure they are strategically placed. 
  3. You should include those keywords in the title and description of your website at least once but no more than 3 times.
  4. Try to fit the keywords in the body of your website as many times as possible without sounding repetative.
  5. It is a good idea to have the keywords in your domain name, but as you already have domains you shouldn't worry about this.
  6. Any objects on your website (ie. audio, graphics, videos, etc.), should have alternate text that includes your keywords.
  7. Another important place to include your keywords is the meta tags of your webpage. Meta tags are not visible to the viewer but are to the search engines. Make sure to include your keywords in your meta tags as much as possible.
  8. The last and most important thing in search engine optimization (and this isn't really search engine optimixation per say) is to get backlinks to your webpage. The more links you get the better PR(pagerank) your site will get and the higher up the search engine rankings your site will go.

That's a pretty candid question but I'll tell you why I'm asking:  I found that one of the most disempowering things I did when I first got started in network marketing was to come to discussion forums and ask questions (and receive advice) from people who weren't any more successful than I was.

In other words, if I want to learn to fly planes, I want to talk to someone who is an expert pilot.  Conversely, if I want to get marital advice, I don't want to spend my time with someone who's been married four times and they're going through their fifth divorce.

And I think the value of these forums is for us to be as authentic as we possibly can.  If anyone here wants to know anything about stocks and bonds, I'll tell you honestly that I'm the wrong person to ask.  And I won't be embarassed to say it.

So, in the spirit of service to the community, I think it's great that someone is willing to offer advice to others.  But, before I would act on it, I would want to know what kind of profit that person is earning in their business and whether they're qualified to guide me.

Yes that makes sense to me more than putting change in a piggy bank.

Now for a sense of privacy I will not disclose exact figures as to what I am earning online. I am sure you would not do that either, however I can tell you that I have made, and consistantly make for that matter, enough income per month to have quit my secure IT job.

A bit about my history....

I was a college student that graduated with a network and support technician diploma a year ago. I had got a job shortly after as a junior system administrator and it was a very secure job. While I was in my first year of college I was struggling to make money for tuition and student expenses so I decided to try online marketing. Believe me... I had failed a lot online before becoming successful. For 2.5 years I tried and tried but nothing seemed to work. I am kind of grateful for that because the best education is trial and error. Now I have extensive skills in internet marketing and make enough monthly to be able to work from home and not have to rely on a corporate world job.

My interest in in the FREE online marketing methods as I'm on a very tight budget and I know there are many methods of advertising and marketing available to those who look.  I currently have a Network Marketing Hangout, Linkdin, Squidoo, and Ryze business pages in place.  I've tried free leads and that was a lot of effort with no fruits but I did learn a lot.  Permission emails seemed to work occassionally.

What can you shed light on regarding this subject?

It is actually one of my favorite topics to talk about, and it is such a coincidence that you ask that just a day after I wrote an article about the subject of free advertising. Here is the article I wrote that includes my top 3 favorite free advertising methods:

Free Advertising For Huge Profits

When you run your own small business, or even a major franchise for that matter, your business will always cost you one of two things or both at the same time. These two things are time and money. In cases where you have a lot of money you can spend the money and save yourself time. This is usually the case of major corporations. They make millions of dollars so they just pay money to get all their marketing needs taken care of. Unfortunately for us small businesses we have to rely on spending time instead of money because the money we get is not as much a profit as is the multi million dollar organizations. This article will cover my personal top 3 free advertising techniques that may take a little time but well worth getting the extra prospects to your business.

My first and most reliable form of free advertising is article writing. What you are reading right now is an article that I have written to get my name out there and branded. If you write articles and submit them to article directories you give yourself a good chance to get traffic from the directories themselves plus others may use your article on their site or in their ezine. The key to getting others to use your article is to offer valuable information that others can use. Valuable tips and advice will get your article added to an ezine or website which will brand your name and send over even more products to your product or service. More to this is the backlinks you will receive. Any online marketer knows how valuable a backlink can be for your search engine rankings.Further to all these positives an article that others read and find valuable put you in an “expert” position instead of just another sales guy trying to sell some corny product or service. When marketing online credibility is very important and article marketing can only add to your credibility, this of course if you are putting out quality content and not just junk. All these positives are the reason I think article marketing is the number 1 free advertising method.

My second favorite free advertising comes from forums. Now when you are in forums you have to keep in mind you are not there to sell your product or service, so don't go to a forum and start spamming every message board with your biz opp because that is a recipe to get banned from every forum. What you should do however is add a catchy line along with your website URL in your sig file and never mention anything about your opportunity. What you should do is help as many people as you can on the forum. This also makes you look like an expert and not just another joe blow. Be very active on the discussion boards and you will see some quality traffic coming from just your sig file.

My third favorite free advertising method is social networking. There are hundreds of popular social network sites out there. Youtube, Facebook, Myspace just to name a few. These three are the juggernauts of social networking. My favorite to use is Youtube and Facebook. Youtube you can post catchy videos and have your website URL in your profile and if your video is good enough it can spread like a virus to so many eyes around the globe. Talk about a ton of free traffic. With Facebook they have a marketplace that regulars visit on a daily basis. You can also join groups and help others with problems they have and make yourself look like an expert once again.

With all the methods above, the key is to portray yourself as a professional and an expert in your field. If you look like an expert people will not just shrug you off and go on to the next guy, they will want to hear from you again and again because they know you know what you are talking about. Eventually you can build a relationship with these people and convert them into buyers of your product or services which of course is your ultimate goal right?

My number one recommended way of free promotion is article writing like I stated in the article above. I think the thing that scares most people about writing articles is that they think they need to know everything and have to be an incredible author to write articels. It would be best to select the keywords that are relevant to each page. You don't want to have keywords about online marketing on a webpage that has automotive supplies. This will give your site the chance to be listed in multiple keyword searches instead of just 1 in particular.

If you have multiple pages on your site with different meanings then its going to be a little more difficult as you will need to work on getting backlinks to each page instead of just the homepage in general.

I'm not the best when it comes to marketing. I'm a dental hygienist but for the last ten years I have been studying web design. I'm trying to promote a custom $99.00 five page web site which would come with a Flash gallery and a Blog page. So just to be sure you are selling a $99 dollar information site that you will integrate with the clients product of their choice?

If this is the case your target audience are business opportunity seekers. This is because you are pretty much trying to sell them a way to make money by offering them a website on which they can integrate their own product.

OR

you can also try to advertise to small business owners who have not ventured onto the net yet. Maybe get a listing of small businesses who do not have websites or really poor websites and send out postcard mailings to them with your services on the card. Tell them you can offer their business a web presence and how it will bring in even more customers in addition to their traditional methods of bringing in customers.

I do have one question?!......I always here that Emailing is a great source to build a list and to bring Sales........what do you do if you have no contacts, except a Pile of Emails from others promoting their sit, with no actaul Email Address?  I am a little confused about the Spam thing and do not know how to email those, without spamming.  I joined 2 Safelist, as a Free Member- thinking I would also have a chance to send Emails, but as I mentioned 85% of them have a Website on my Email.  Is this because I am a "Free Member" that I do not get to bombard their Email Account, like I have everyday?....just wondering.  So, needless to say- I have done ALL my Advertising on Free Sites, very little paid- which took months to get any results. 

I hear about Autoresponders, and have mine on Traffic Wave.....but for 2 weeks- I have seen no results.......so I am not sure if I am doing it right.  For A Free 30 day Trial, I could post and create Capaines, but I could not Import & Export Leads........so once again, all my Sales have come from Free Advertising! 

Now Leads..........I have paid for a few from Jeanie, with no results and I also have 1000's that i have not used, because I am afraid if I send them to these people, it will be considered Spam..........is that correct?  The lists that I have are from Surveys and those who requested info on Work from home opportunities.  I have set on these leads, not knowing if they will help or not. :?

Let me start by explaining what spam is. Spam is sending unsolicited e-mails to people who have not requested information form you.

This is the problem that I find with lead brokers. The leads are either unresponsive, or they have not requested any information at all.

My advice would be to get leads through squeeze pages and a good autoresponder. When you are obtaining your own leads, at least you know they will be responsive and they are real-time leads, not days or weeks old.

On any website you have, just setup capture pages to capture your visitors e-mail and name. Give them something for free as an incentive so that they can optin to your autoresponder, which in turn will followup with these real time responsive prospects.

This is the way to go. This way you are capturing e-mails of your visitors instead of letting them just leave from your website to never hear from them again.

It does sound like you have a lot to learn, but everyone has to start somewhere. A captur page is basically something YOU have to create, you won't be able to find one. If you do not know how to create a webpage then you will need to outsource the work to a web designer. A capture page is a one page site that you direct all your traffic too. On that one page you will tell the visitor the benefits of your site and what they can do for you. Then you create an optin form on this one page site and tell the visitor to fill out their name and e-mail address in the form to continue through to your actual site. This is where you can offer then somehting for free as well just to entice them into opting in more. This way you will be capturing your visitors' information so that oyu can followup with them in the future.

Thanks so much for your Help!!  After reading your email earlier, I went to my Back Office, on my Website and looked around.  For awhile now I have been sitting on tools I did not know I had.  I did not know how to use them and thought they was extra..........needless to say, I have a free Ato Responder, Tracker & Rotator( I do not know how to use the Rotator).......I copied my 2 links for my Capture pages - which like you mentioned offered a Free Internet Wealth Report and I have already used it................WOW...........I just got a Receipt from Pay Pal already.  I guess those who fill out that Free Form are my Subscribers (Better known as Personal Leads??)............I feel absolutely Stupid, but yet- so graetful.  I could of been really growing my Business, though to be honest- for the last 6 weeks- I rarely go onto my back offce, I just use my Ads that I wrote to post........I guess this explains why things have been Slooooooooow!!:shock:

As far as Squeeze pages go.........is this a good place for leads, or should I now just focus on sending my Links to my Capture Page and send emails to them??

I asked permission of an admin to do this, because i do not want to be percieved as a spammer or a covert advertiser. I have been using a very good service for the past few months, WT Powers. It's not very expensive and it has a number of excellent tools you can use to promote your business. It also offers a little bit of affiliate income, though, that is not why i use it. I use it for the tools it offers. They have a good conference call service, 1-800 number for voicemails, lots of stuff that you can use to drive traffic to your home business site.

They have a very good flash presentation page that allows you to mess with the meta tags, and add a picture if you wish. They offer landing pages, an E-Blaster, and a decent autoresponder system. They also sell leads, if one wishes to take advantage of that. I don't buy leads from them, as they are a bit expensive, and i know of some better lead sources than that. plus, i am in the process of doing away with buying leads, as i am beginning to generate all i need by much less expensive more magnetic methods. Like I said, i am not trying to use this a covert way to get people to sign up under me. I don't really care if noone does, i will still use the system because it is working for me.

Paba, i agree whole-heartedly! The importance of back links is often times underestimated by us  amature seo "experts." One of the very best ways to get back links, at least in my humble opinion is right here in front of us, forums like this one. I teach all my downline to utilize forums with a catchy sig file and links. I teach them to avoid spamming and advertising in forums. Just become a part of a community, get to know everyone and let them get to know you.

Contribute meaningful content and ask questions. Two things will happen. 1.) You will get back links from your sig file and 2.) you will get traffic to your sites as people get to know you and want to know what you are about. I have found that there are a lot of MLMers who believe in the industry but are fed up with their particular company. Or, they have done MLM in the past, believe in the system and are willing to try again. Either way, eventually  you will attract these people, as you become more of an inspiration, or offer value and become branded as an expert.

Carolina, anyone else for that matter, if you don't have it, get a copy of Mike Dillard's "Magnetic Sponsoring" manual. It will open your eyes! It's worth the $40 Bucks  you will pay for it. And, stay in this forum. You will learn and benefit from a lot of other more experienced people's trial and error. Read, soak up the knowledge and you will be able to avoid some of their (our) mistakes. Most of all, and this really is important, HAVE FUN! If you are having fun, and don't take yourself too seriously, and if you have a burning desire to succeed, let nothing stand in your way, you will make it. Let the nay sayers say "nay," let the pooh poohers, uh, do what they do, LOL. You keep charting your own course, and go for it! You'll get there.
