Hi Fred,
I think social networking sites are about skill. More specifically, it is about having the abilitiy to effectively communicate with the other participants. I know people who can connect with people effortlessly and are bringing people into their business or getting people to buy their products.
You just have to know or understand what other people are looking for or what they want. To find this out, you need to first listen. Pay attention to their needs. By listening to their needs and addressing their issues, you are demonstrating leadership.

I would recommend giving people a clear reason for going to your site. Free stuff that's relevant to your target market is always a motivating factor for clicking on a link.
Also, using words that compel people to click on your link. Here is a list of them.

Very good Frank. I can see that you have some marketing skills. What Frank just did is exactly what everyone should do when you are marketing online. Give helpful suggestions to people and if you have a website or a blog that will be helpful, point them to it. This not only will arouse iinterest from others in what you have to say about a particular subject, but it will also give people an opportunity to see what you are about, more specifically it will give them an opportunity to find out more about your business opportunity and/or your products.
This is what I mean about effective communication. People don't want you to hear about "Get them in the deal" jargon. They want substance, they want to find out how you can help them with their issues in their lives without having to spend any money.
By the way Frank, I did check out your blog. Very good blog. I like the content and its presentation. I wish I had your skills, but I am still new. My skills are still being developed.

If you are not using social networks to your advantage in your network
marketing business, you are neglecting a vital part of the web which has the
power to potentially explode your income.
What are social network you ask? Well, these are online communities that are
interactive such as Myspace, Facebook, online forums etc.
The biggest social network we have on the face of the planet is Myspace.
Myspace boost about 200 million people, making it the 8th largest country in
the world in terms of population. And it gets over one billion page views each
day. Can you imagine the mind boggling traffic this website gets each day?
If you are able to tap a minute fraction of this website traffic, then you
should be able to get a good percentage of targeted people who might join your
business.
Using Myspace is easy. All you need is to set up a profile. Get a Myspace
profile that will be easy to navigate and just write as much as you can about
yourself. Include the type of people you want to meet, this will make people
adding you as a friend be targeted and like minded with you.
To target people, you need to include a link to a newsletter that you have
written which you will ask people to subscribe from. The purpose of the
newsletter is to educate people on how to effectively market any business
opportunity in network marketing.
You should desist from any mention of your home business as this will ruin your
chances of recruiting anybody, instead focus on giving good content that will

Here's what Jackie Ulmer has to say about social networking sites.
Social Networking Sites and Forums Online are a GREAT way to get the word out about YOU and your business.
Here's the key though - You don't go in and tell everyone how wonderful your opportunity is. You go in and network, getting to know people.
Here is what Wikipedia.com has written about MySpace -
"MySpace is a social networking website offering an interactive, user-submitted network of friends, personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music and videos internationally...
According to Alexa Internet, MySpace is currently the world's sixth most popular website, and the third most popular website in the United States, though it has topped the chart on various weeks.
The service gradually gained more popularity than similar websites to achieve nearly 80% of visits to online social networking websites in 2006. Today its traffic is similar to that of Facebook, a competing social network.
The company employs 300 staff and does not disclose revenues or profits separately from News Corporation. The 100 millionth account was created on August 9, 2006 in the Netherlands and a news story claimed 106 million accounts on September 8, 2006, and the site reportedly attracts 230,000 new registrations per day. As of January 2007, there are over 200 million accounts."
Imagine the traffic you can ultimately drive to your personal website and the number of people you can expose to your business if you are networking properly out online.
So, as you are building a profile and developing a presence at any social networking site, go with good intentions, and have clear intentions.
Make sure your opportunity is listed there but don't be hype filled. No one likes that. Remember Social Etiquette. Now, you may find over time that MySpace doesn't fit you, but it's a good place to jump in and get your feet wet.
Once you create your profile or bio there, be sure to save all of your text in a Word or Notepad file so you can easily cut and paste as you move on and create other sites.

Thank you both Frank and bigjonny for sharing your information about social networking sites.
I do have an account on myspace and other social networking sites, but since I am still new to network marketing, I was not sure how to go about setting up my account. Often, the company I am currently involved with speaks about being more personable, which I try to do.
Since you both have shared your information on social networking sites, I now have a different perspective on my accounts with social networking sites and will gradually make changes as time permits.
Also, Frank, your list of ways to promote your website, I am currently doing just about all of them. It is hard because I still have a full-time job and I only have about 2 hours in the evening to fulfill my obligations to my business. But, even a little bit counts far more than doing nothing.

Congrats on making the time to build your business. Even two hours a day is enough if done consistantly to start seeing results in time. So don't give up.

So before you get run out and fire up an expensive paper click or solo ezine ad, make sure you create a few profiles and learn how to network your way to a successful home based business.

You are so right TGArthur. Many people fail to understand that just by starting a network marketing business is not going to guarantee you success. YOu first have to learn how to market, sell, and communicate effectively in order to build a business. If you do not invest the time to learn these skills, you will be hard-pressed discovering growth in your business. So, it pays to work on your skills first.
The good thing about marketing is that there are very effective ways to market your business that cost little to no money. It may take more time to develop the skills and to engage in the marketing, but again, these skills are very important to the success in your business. Once you have these skills, then you have attained a skill that no one can take away from you.

Right, but also its important is people actually share actual results and be upfront and honest. When someone says I right a "successful blog" Well what does that mean? Does that mean you are sponsoring people every month in your blog? I think from an analytical point of view, we should be posting more of the result suggesting a technique that was used and the results given.
I think another great point is for especially new distributors is to get experience instead of listening to someone telling them something along the lines of "Cold calling is ineffective" which some of the internet marketers are doing, but actually encouraging people to go out and trying Cold Calling themselves and getting a result instead of relying on someone else who suggests what marketing technique works or not to do a marketing ploy.

Great posts here. And lots of good information.
The only thing I would add at this point, is that people tend to forget that doing business, whether it be on the online or offline is still a people business.
Most people will buy something from some one they know and trust before they do a total stranger. Even if the stranger has a better price.
Bottom line is build the relationships first. The business aspect will follow. And not everybody you talk to is going to be right for your business. Find the ones you can connect with.

Bill, I have just started learning this. In the past, I was always happy to get anybody. I thought if I got anybody, then my business was going to do well.
As of late, I am discovering that "getting anybody" has nothing to do with success in your business. Success comes when you can get the right people for your business. Only then will you see success. And, the right people for you is not the same as the right people for someone else.
My sponsor told me that I am the one who should be selecting the people to work with. This is why it is important to connect with people on the phone or face to face. The internet is only a vehicle used to make such connections occur.
I am learning quite a bit about connecting and relationship building and the importance they have in building a successful business. And to think, it has taken me almost 5 years to realize this. Well, as the saying goes, better late than never.

I am discovering freecash2riches that almost anything you do on the internet requires skills and techniques. How to acquire these is key? Really, to acquire these skills means that we have to learn and then put into action what you have learned.
This means, practice, practice, practice and don't quit. It is hard, but life is hard. Enjoy the ride and be willing to go through the tough times to get through to the better times.
There are a lot of places where you can learn about different subject matters. Look at the post placed by freedomfire. Forums are a good place to connect and learn from others. So are social networking sites.

I've heard a lot about social marketing and the great results people have with it but haven't done it myself...now it's time to begin!
Squidoo, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter... these seem to be the usual suspects and I know some of you are generating tons of leads with them.
So how do you do it?
How do you market using a site like myspace?
Do you use them like a blog where you post quality content to atract prospects?
Do you a have a separate "business account" or do you use your regular account and simply tell about your op to your friends network?
Are there any resources you can recomend?
