I have been thinking about adding a forum, but am not sure what amount of time it would take to run it, such as does it have to be moderated constantly, etc. Any input would be appreciated.
As I work the evening shift full time, am not sure about the time constraints.

Once you have it all set up it should pretty much run itself...automated registration, etc.
But you will have to spend a lot of time moderating....or taking out the trash...in order to keep it clean. Depending on how many members you have you can always get volunteers to help do that.

I dont kinow I se ethe moderators here as really important.
Without help I think it woudl take a lot of time
having teh board isnt too much of an issue, but you need new people coming so its active and you need to keep the boards clean.
I think everyone here is pretty cool about it, nbut we also all help when we can put links in and stuff when it doesnt take away from everyone having real discusssions.
The real question is what kind of board would you have?

Mixed ideas on this but in the ednd I felt like it would
like starting your own mlm company. Wasn't the idea of becomeing
a rep to get out of 9-5 and retire early? Why take on
headaches of ownership of a forum when you get do your
own thing in a blog and have few headaches?

Sorry if this sounds like a daft question, but when you say you're thinking of 'adding a forum', is that a forum on your own website, or can people run their own forums on MLMforums.com?
Best wishes, and may every day bring you closer to your optimum life!

In my opinion it's not too much trouble at all. Like Michael said, registrations can be handled automatically. You can set it up that way in your Admin Control Panel, or you can also choose to manage the resistrations manually if you like.
As for moderation, that's up to you. You can let posts be posted automatically in real-time, or have them sit in queue until you approve them manually (which will be time-consuming). Most things like board back-up and other board maintenance tasks can be set to take place automatically. But like Michael said, you'll spend some time keeping it clean of nonsense posts and spam posts.
I was the Admin of a forum for a Network Marketing company that had many very active forum members and there were only two other moderators helping me. -We handled everything just fine.
So I don't think it's too difficult at all. It's actually kinda fun. And if it starts tying up a lot of your time, just ask one of your trusty members if he or she would like to help moderate. Nine times out of ten they'll say yes. It makes them feel important.

many people get a forum at powerful intentions. It can be in addittion to your blog and the community already gets lots of traffic.
http://chris.powerfulintentions.com/forums are mine and the ones I belong to at Powerful Intentions.
you can get memberships free at http://Powerfulintentions.com and can see the most popular forums and blogs at http://chris.powerfulintentions.com/powerfulstuff.htm
I am a co-founder of that community and started it for a lot of these reasons in this thread. Its a way for people to have their own piece of real estate on the web and you can email the people that have become members of your forums etc.

| Can anybody tell me exactly how effective backlinks are via signatures from forums for SEO purposes?

It depends on a lot of factors including the PageRank of the site, keywords in the link and the relevancy of the forum to the site you are linking to.
Personally, I think it is always better to develop links on related sites with high PageRank rather than using links on forums and blogs.
Signature links on forums and blogs are much easier to create but in my opinion are less effective than links on well researched, related sites.
Hope this helps

If you are in the network marketing business, participation on forums is one of
the ways you can actually grow your downline as long as you are doing forum
marketing the right way. If you want to use forum to build your downline, these
are the basic two things you will have to do regularly to get hundreds of
interested members to check you out and subsequently join your team.
- Participate Regularly
One of the overlooked ways of forum marketing is the inability to use forums
every day. Most people join forums and participate a few days thinking people
will check them out only to discover that they are not getting any leads from
forums. The reason is, before anyone can check you out, you must have posted a
lot for them to seek you out.
If you want maximum result for your forum marketing, here is what you have to
do. Locate 3 - 5 forums that are in the network marketing arena by searching on Google, this will give you results of forums to join and participate in.
When you are making your research, try to use forums that have from 10,000
members and above to increase your chances of getting enough traffic that will
pay for the time you spend posting.
Now craft a good signature from your account profile settings. Something that
gets the attention of people after reading your post. However, do not blatantly
advertise on your signature file, you should be subtle and at the same time get
your message across. Include every other details that you feel will add to your
credibility in the profile.
Once you have done this, introduce yourself to the community, then make sure
you post every single day. The traffic wont come till after you have been
posting consistently for 2 weeks.
- Post High Quality Content ONLY
Everyday, you will see posts by people who are new, they ask questions, try to
reply to every post that you have answers or opinion. Do this for at least 5
people each day on each forum. Also you can ask relevant questions yourself to
attract enough replies and at the same time many will notice your signature
link.
Occasionally write and post very informative articles that will benefit others
in the forum. Your articles should be based on your experience in areas you
have been successful in getting traffic to your business or just any tip that
will help others to build their business.
