Hello everyone,
I am new to this site and new to blogging, but I have always been interested in blogging. I have an idea, but because I am not familiar with how blogging works I thought I would ask the following.
1. Are Youtube or Myspace considered blogs?
2. If you create a blog can you put unlimited videos? I imagine this requires a lot of server power.
3. Can a blog be created where people(Visitors) can insert information about themselves, including videos or is this no longer considered a blog? Similar to myspace with a combination of youtube
4. Is this idea way out there?

Not sure what your idea is, but here are my observations.
YouTube and MySpace are not blogs. In my non-technical understanding, they are platforms that do allow visitors to create content. In fact, they rely on the visitors, guests, whatever you call them, to produce the content.
A blog is something with access almost entirely restricted to the owner or whoever else is given the login information to the content management system. You yourself can certainly put videos on your own blog. Unlimited is another question depending on where your blog is hosted. I've had blogs on my own domain shut down by my hosting company because of too much activity.
Visitors can only post content on a blog through the comments on individual posts. It's not a shared site other than that.
In sum, I think you're mixing up two different ideas. You're going to need some other type of site if you're looking to attract a lot of videos from visitors.
But maybe I'm missing something.

Those sites are definately not blog sites. However, you can integrate youtube videos into your blog.
As far as limitations on # of videos....you would have to check with whoever your hosting service is for your blog web site.

Embedding youtube videos onto your blog does not take up bandwidth, when you place the youtube URL within the blog, you are actually creating a link. The bandwidth is carried by the video host.
No need to place multiple videos on one post ~ visitors may view your other videos from the archives.

Hi Tony,
No, Youtube and MySpace are not blogs. Youtube is a video sharing website, and MySpace is a social networking website. That said, MySpace accounts (profiles) do have blog capabilities built within them. A MySpace account comes with a MySpace blog. The blog has standard fields for content, emotion, and media.
And yes, you can put an unlimited amount of videos on your blog. If you use a free blogging platform like Blogger.com, you won't have any hosting fees, bandwith costs or anything to worry about. It's entirely free, and there's no limit to the amount of content you can post.
Actually, yes, you can create a blog where people can post information about themselves, including videos. Well, sort of. Blogger allows you to have up to 100 authors per blog. You simply add those people as authors and they'll be able to post to the blog as much and as often as they like. Some people run "community blogs" like this where several authors post content, but most people just have their own blog where only they can post and control what content goes live.
Anyway, I hope that helps answer some of your questions.
Shine on,
Aar n

| I think it depend what for do you want to create you blog page, if it is just for fun, that is mean that is no matter where you will create your page MySpace or YouTube or somewhere else. Anyhow you can not earn money on these sites. I would prefer to make site on blogger.com from Google, there you can put you advertise code and earn money.
