Hello all,
I am using a dedicated blog on my personal Site Build It! website. First I purchased my SBI website, and then I added on the dedicated blog later as sort of a module.
I thought about getting one at blogger or typepad, but this way it is attached to my own website and I don't have to worry about ever losing control of my blog (you should at least get you own domain name and redirect it).

SBI is cool and it is great that they built a blog into it.
However, Darby, what you don't realize is that Wordpress, Drupal, Moveable type and other blog software can be installed anywhere on my site.
So I can install wordpress into http://mysite.com/blog/
Or I can do an entire subdomain like: http://blog.mysite.com/
Why pay the outrageous cost for SBI if all you want is a BLOG? You can download wordpress software and install it yourself from http://www.wordpress.org/ or you can get your own wordpress site at http://www.wordpress.com and forward a domain or a subdomain of your main domain to it.

Benfitts,
I understand what you are saying. I wouldn't necessarily recommend people buy an SBI site just to get a blog.
My site is much more than a blog, as it has separate pages and back doors for training, etc., which is what I was looking for. So the combo of SBI site and blog works well for me.

I'm using Word Press and Blogger. But after hearing a story of blogger accounts got deleted, I'm a bit worried now.
Probably I'll have to migrate all my blogs on blogger.com to Word Press. Or, I'll have to post the contents on my servers.

Hey Zamri,
If you don't have time or the know how to install your own Wordpress account you can now signup for a free blog through http://www.wordpress.com
They are offering free wordpress blogs. I got a couple as soon as they launched so I could get some good keywords.

Hi Ben,
That's a good recommendation. I grabbed one myself, to test version 2 without having to install it.
Another good feature is that they'll maintain and update the system behind the scenes, leaving more time and energy for actual blogging.
I learned by playing on my blog there that now I want to upgrade all of my WordPress blogs to version 2. I don't have enough hours in the day for all of this.
One of these days, I'm gonna have to quit collecting blogs.

All the best,
JD

Hi Zamri,
There are millions of people using Blogger with no problems. I was very happy with their service until last November.
It turns out that when you have a problem with Blogger, they are not very supportive and helpful, and the terms of service even say your only recourse is to not use the service.
I can understand how their support would be stretched thin with so many users, and I'm not really angry with them, but I reached a point in early December, 2005, that I could no longer continue to use their service.
I wrote about it in early December at http://blogfeedsyndication.com/ so I won't go into it all here.
I've had a four month disruption of my regular blogging schedule, but I think I'm better off for having faced the challenge and overcome it in my own way.
For casual bloggers, Blogger is probably sufficient. I would no longer recommend building a business around it, however.
All the best,
JD

Benjamin,
Many thanks for letting me know about wordpress.com. I didn't know they came up with that kind of service now.
John,
I agree with you that if you want to do blogging for business, it's best if the contents are hosted on your servers. At least we have a little bit of controls. Even better (in my opinion) if the blog software itself is hosted on your servers.
cheers,
Zamri

I am using blogger (blogspot)
For the first time bloggers it is easy to set up and easy to add Adsense ads that blend into the blog for a little extra income.

Hi,
I have quite a few blogs myself and they generate a lot of traffic from many search engines on auto pilot. I've tried out many blogging platforms and found the best to be wordpress or blogger.
If you are very basic, blogger is probably the best option as html is easy to understand.
If you are familiar with php, and have your own hosting, I recommend wordpress.org (not wordpress.com as that is the free service.) With wordpress.org, your blog will definitely look cooler as there are thousands of cool templates to choose from, or you can design your own.
However, if you are going to use the free wordpress.com, it might be a good idea to start a blog from blogsome.com or theblog.cc as they use the wordpress.com software, but they let you edit the source files etc. Basically, you have almost full control of the look and feel as you would having a wordpress.org blog.
But whatever you choose, a blog, plus the "right keywords(on the header, url and the main page/pages") and many links linking to your blog, will gaurantee, high rankings on google and other search engines. I can honestly say traffic for me for the last few months has been on auto-pilot from all sorts of search engines. Which saves me the hassle of having to visit other people's blogs in order to get visitors. But One of my blogs I think was banned from google because of over-saturating it with keywords, so be careful.
Shem.

Hi, everyone
I like my bloggger blog better, sinse I installed it on my website. Now Blogger cannot delete it.
Blogger.com can be moody sometimes. I've publishes 7 articles ones and I was baned from posting for 10 days, because Blogger decided to review my blog with regard of "suspected spam". Like with any technology, Blogger's crawlers are not
perfect, and they have to close the blog and let human eye see and decide that it is not a spam. At that time I was adviced by fellow entrepreneurs to publish 2-3 articles at one time... But now, having blog on my site, I know Blogger cannot delete or stop and it looks better, as it is a natural part of my site. I also get more contents to my site.

yeah thats true plexus but mainly if you want to add some stuff like more headers or links in the sidebar you will need to know some basics about php at the very least. Otherwise wordpress is a powerful tool to be reckon with.
I use both blogger.com and wordpress at current. But I'm leaning towards blogger.com at this point!
Its more userfriendly for me!

I'm a blogger fan as well, but that could be because my technical skills are rather limited at this point and Google is always very user friendly. A few posts did catch my eye that were discussing deleted accounts...I'm assuming this was because of some kind of abuse or keyword usage, but don't know any details. I'd imagine that if it was a wide-spread problem, the service wouldn't continue to be so popular. Just my thought.
I swear that every time I open a thread in this forum, I learn some other accronym that I've never heard before Oh the lovely language of computers

Hi merideth, yes I've hard some news about it before. But you know these are sites which are built for Adsense. They are merely not too content but optimised with the likes of only 1 true purpose - to earn money or profits via adsense.
Today Google has changes its spidering and PR styles. So, we should be aware of these changes lest we get canned.
I had a meeting with some IM'ers today and it was great. Probably I'll post it in my blog too on how it went.

I am quite familiar with Joomla, but I hear that wordpress is very simple and straight forward. What do you prefer?
