By the way, you've probably guessed this already - you can choose more than one platform, if you're using more than one.

For those who don't know the terminology - a blog platform is the software application used to create the blog.

Some of these platforms are WEb Based, and the used doesn't require any programming skills.  Other platforms are "server side" web applications  (e.g. Nucleus CMS, Movable Type, bBlog, WordPress, Drupal, b2evolution, boastMachine, Antville, Serendipity and Textpattern ).

These server side applications allow the user to publish on heir own website or a third party website.

Some people program their own blogs from scratch.

I am using blogger and word press.

Blogger I use for niche topics that I post updates, articles etc to.

Word press I use on one of my domains so that I can use the 'pages' feature.  This is great for adding additional content to my website.

I also use Blogger.com. I have seen dozens of my friends using them and we are all able to customize however we see fit. Did you know there are over 900,000,000 million blogs on the internet and that number is growing at the rate of 70,000 per day?! Source: CNBC.com

Kind Regards,

Well it looks so far like most people that voted here are using Blogger.  Followed then by Powerful Intentions and Wordpress.

Of course there are only a handful of votes in right now, so that's nothing too significant at all in the "statistics" realm.

But Julianne does bring up an important point...that you can use more than one blog platform!

Anyway, Blogger has worked well for me with what I need so far, though I'm not about to rule any others out.

Happy blogging!

Aar:cool:n

PS: Hey Jeff, those were some rather interesting/intriguing figures!  Thanks for sharing them. 70,000 per day is enormous!

Karen, would you mind posting the link for your Word Press blog please?

I'd like to see the template you're using. Thanks.

Hi Julieanne,

Sure, not a problem.  The template is one that I downloaded from one of the theme sites and then I customized it a little.

Clicky Here

Karen, I see you turned the comments off from the Word Press blog too.  I love the way Word Press does the comments.

I spent nearly a day choosing from all the templates in the theme sites. They have soooo many don't they.  I'm really liking Word Press now - didn't at first:-)

You know what drives me crazy?  So many times I visit a blog I love the template ... then I want to create another blog just to use the template.

Oh wait, maybe I am the one that is crazy?!?!

Nah, if you're crazy, then so are a million other people:-)

Did you read the manual when you first started using WP Karen?  I didn't and I could've saved a lot of time if I'd read it first.  It's a very good manual.

Have you put any Google adverts on yours yet Karen?

I ended up installing a "text" plug in, which worked right away. It doesn't work for Amazon adverts though.

Manual?   Well how about that!

I have put adsense on several of my blogs, although the blog auto spam program doesn't seem to click on them very often.

What text plug in did you use?

Hi Karen, I use the Text Control Version 2 Plug in to get Adsense to work.  Now I want to find out how to get the Amazon links to show up.

Jeff Neil knows, I think. Are you there Jeff?

I use Wordpad for most of my blogs like my Home Business Blog.

However I have found that Drupal offers some really cool features.  If you look at my new HDTV blog you'll see that within a post keywords are highlighted with their definitions.  This is part of Drupal's glossary plugin.  This is really cool when dealing with technical topics like HDTV.

With Wordpress the only option would be for me to use one of their "links" features which looks for the title of the link.  So basically my links would be keywords... It just isn't as elegant as the Drupal Glossary.

That is GOOD Benjamin!   Do you write up all the definitions into a glossary, and the program finds them everytime it sees a keyword which has a definition?

Great idea you have there for a blog too.  Do you work or have experience in that field Benjamin?

I vaguely remember reading somewhere about a new plugin that's been written for WordPress, related to keywords.  Perhaps someone's copied that idea recently.

How long have you been blogging on your HDTV blog Benjamin?
Are you enjoying it?

I used Blogger for a long time, but moved all my blogs off it in November because they kept blocking my account. I've written about it on other threads and won't bother anyone with it, again.

WordPress is great. I love being able to write pages, blog postings, and sending things to multiple categories. I have at least a dozen sites using WordPress.

I've tried PHP-Nuke and like it, but both sites I was building with it were hacked and I don't use it any more. I only have one site powered by PHP-Nuke, now, and I'll be moving it to WordPress when I find the time and energy.

I have one site powered by Mambo, but I think that's better for a company or community with multiple authors. I'm not sure if I'll keep this one or not.

I have a blog powered by Radio Userland, and this is also the program I use as a feed reader. It has a programmable database that I use to manage a dozen static sites, including a couple with well over 1,000 pages: http://JohnDilbeck.com and http://GeorgiaDragRacing.com. My RU blog is at http://ISucceedByHelpingYouSucceed.com and it has multiple categories that are syndicated as individual blogs on other sites.

I enjoy blogging at http://johndilbeck.powerfulintentions.com.

Yahoo 360 offers a good blog and other features.

Over the last couple of years, I've tested many blogging platforms, and my favorites are Manilla, Radio Userland, WordPress, and Powerful Intentions.

My first blog, http://johndilbeck.editthispage.com, is powered by Manilla and was started before the term "blog" was created. We called it "look what we can do" or "wow" back then. This blog is currently down, but should be back live in a few days.

As you can see, I've tested a lot of blogging platforms to see which work best for me.

One of the neatest is created automatically for me every time I create or modify a page on my SiteBuildIt-hosted site at http://AYearFromNow.com. I don't usually think of it as a blog, however, because it is done automatically.

Act on your dream!

JD

Hi Julianne,

I "believe" the way the wordpress plugin works is this:

You create your links.  The title of your link will be used for the glossary.

So if I created a link called:

mlm forums

Any time it found the phrase "mlm forums" in my blog it would automatically link that phrase to the link I used when I created the link.

Unfortunately this also means that your links now become your glossary.  So you can't have both links and a glossary.  At least that was my "interpretation" of it when I read about the Wordpress plugin.  Otherwise I would be using the wordpress plugin.

RE: HDTV it is something I am interested in but it was just going to be a blog to make some money off adsense and Chitika revenue.  I honestly don't have time to maintain it because my other projects are going so well.
