Hi,
I've had my http://www.parttimenetworker.com blog up and running for about a month and a half now ... I've made about a dozen posts. It's currently hosted on blogspot, but uses my own domain name.
I recently downloaded and read Authority Black Book (based on a post from this forum). I really like alot of the ideas. And since most of the recommended tools only work on wordpress, I checked the CPanel on my hosting account, and I do get the full version of wordpress included in fantastico.
I was just wondering what some of your thoughts are on whether it would be worthwhile for me to switch things over now, before I get too much further into promoting the site that's currently on blogspot.
Can you forsee any disadvantages to having a wordpress blog on my own hosting account?
Would I be giving up any advantages that I might not realize I have on blogspot?
I'll be stuck here in Iraq until almost Halloween. I've never been a 100% online marketer before. But, since I don't have the opportunity for anything face to face, or even on the phone right now, I really have no choice but to get good at working the Internet.
Thanks in advance for any comments, feedback, or suggestions.
I appreciate you,
Todd

Hi Todd,
Choosing a web hosting service is probably one of the most difficult, confusing things you'll ever have to do in setting up your business. Sounds like you have already gotten past that. BRAVO for you! Fantastico is fantastic! A few clicks sets up your blog, and it has an easy to use administrative interface. The cpanel is a dream I've heard from some pretty big hitters. Congrats to you for choosing it.
I don't know if there are advantages to blogspot or not, someone else here probably does, but I do know that there are advantages to hosting it on your own domain. What if Google, in all their emanate power, should change their minds (again!) and start charging $$$ for blogspot or, worse yet, drop it all together? Do you really think it is safe to hinge such a powerful element of your business (i.e. your blog) on something so possibly unstable (in other words, a freebie)? I think it is worthwhile to switch over your blog before it is too difficult or maybe make a few changes to your content, leave that blog behind and start a new blog with Wordpress. Someone can probably give you other reasons as to why they think this might be wrong thinking, but that's my opinion.
OT: Thanks, Todd, for serving over in Iraq! My son is in the Air Force and is stationed over in Iraq right now too...I think you guys are awesome and my prayers are with you all...all the time!

Hey Todd,
Going with WP on your own hosting is good choice. As you already mentioned, there are many plugins that allow you to customize how it operates, what the look and feel is, etc.
Also, down the road you may want to have a custom design or "skin" created for you. Finding a coder/designer to do that will be much easier and as Delta noted you have some degree of ownership, even though WP is open source.
If for any reason you find that your current hosting company does not service your needs, you can just pick up your blog and move it elsewhere intact. Kind of like you're doing now, but with a lot less hassle.
There's also good training and support for WP. One program that I've used myself is Sherman Hu's WordPress Tutorials (you can Google for the exact link). Even though I'm a little bit of a code monkey myself, I still found some useful tactics there for managing and getting the most out of your efforts.

With Wordpress.org - NOT .com - you get FULL control over the look and feel of your Blog. The only drawback is it isn't hosted FOR you - but you already have that covered.
I'd HIGHLY suggest looking into switching over to it!

One of the most important aspects of a network marketing business is YOU.
Because the product and system provided by the company is the same for everyone — YOU are the most important element in the marketing chain.
You could do that by branding yourself. And the easiest way to do that is a blog.
A Wordpress blog could be highly customized to your requirements using themes. The downside is you need to have some knowledge of HTML and CSS, to control the blog design.
Here's some sites to get the themes:
http://themes.wordpress.net/
http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/
http://alexking.org/projects/wordpress/themes
However there are plenty of free Wordpress themes available which you could use as a base to customize from instead of creating a theme from ground up.
Hope this helps.

Hi Todd,
I was thinking along the same lines as you.
All if needed is the hassle of getting all
the stuff moved from blogger to wordpress.
The hardpart will be over once this is done.
Let's exchange contacts so we can teach each
other to do so. I invite you to PM me if you want.
The authority book is cool stuff. I'll dig into that
very soon.
sheesh, it took me a few weeks to realise the
power of wordpress..

Yes. Wordpress is awesome and all of the plugins that are available to help you get traffic are outstanding. I actually load my blog in the root directory and set it up as a website.
Provides the ability to ping with each new post and I have seen a lift in traffic for every site that I have done this with.
