There's already a ton of info here in the Blog Marketing board on the subject. Reading the threads (including the archived posts) here will give you plenty of proven options.
To make it simpler for you here's a general listing..........
1. Post 3-5 articles a week to your blog. Make them keyword rich with useful content folks will WANT to read. If they're just ads you just shot yourself in the foot.
2. Ping after every post ..... use http://pingoat.com
3. Tag your individual article post pages using Digg, Simpy, or any similar social bookmarking community. Read the thread here on Tagging for an explanation.
4. Write say 2-3 articles a week on a subject related to your blog's focus. Put the link to your blog in your author sigbox. Submit those articles to article directories like http://www.ezinearticles.com , http://www.goarticles.com, or [url=http://www. isnare.com]http://www. isnare.com[/url] . There's an entire discussion board here on Article Marketing with tips and resources.
5. Use your blog url in your forum sig's, business cards, email sigs, car decal, etc. Brand it wherever you can.
6. Include a way for visitors to subscribe to a RSS or other type feed from your blog. This will bring repeat visitors who will be receiving your articles every time you post a new one.
7. Include a way for visitors to "refer" your blog and/or individual article posts to others. This gets you referal traffic. There's lots of such tools and many are free. Just Google for "referal tool".
1-4 will result in your articles being listed in the search engines by key word content .... and thus get you healthy targeted organic SE traffic. This is what you're goal is.
5 will "spread the word", while raising your "familiarity" level in the marketplace. You want to get noticed but you're shooting for "brand recognition" like Coke etc.
6-7 will capture repeated traffic and the referal market.
Above is very basic but I hope that helps a little.

A real easy way to get traffic to your site is by starting discussions or commenting on discussions in placers like blogger etc.. Most social book marketin sites are good for that.
Another easy way is to do traffic exchange type programs they work and are free in most circumstances.
Getting backlinks to your blog is always a good thing.
Write compelling stuff on your blog and keep it entertaining.
