There's something new just came out of beta, which looks very interesting. It's called Squidoo, and from what I can see, they are wanting people (lensmasters) to set up a Lens on a particular area. This lens will point to the Lensmaster's Blog or website (or both).
Lensmasters will be paid a share of the ad revenue (eventually). The original Squid was set up by Seth Godin, a well known author and internet marketer.
I posted some more details about it here
Squidoo

Julieanne,
Thanks for sharing this info.
I started the following lens...took me about 15 minutes each:
Branson
http://www.squidoo.com/bransonbuzz/
Tai Chi for Health
http://www.squidoo.com/taichiforhealth/
Tea House
http://www.squidoo.com/teahouse/
Here is a pretty cool option:
There are already many sites set up waiting for someone to claim them. I claimed Kansas City, placed a few more links that were not already there..(of course I will include my own), added a photo and added some books about Kansas City from Amazon...and in 10 minutes, I had another website...how cool is that????
http://www.squidoo.com/kansascity/
It's a good idea to have a lens about the city you live in.....that's something you know a lot about and a good place to put links to your other sites.
Even if someone else already has a lens about your city, your interests and viewpoint will be different.

Yes, Squidoo seems to be really taking off. They have well over 4,000 lenses already.
I took your advice Pat and went for "Gold Coast" (my city). It was taken but was also up for grabs. So, I grabbed it. The other person might have claimed it then forgotten about it.
We have 10 days to fill it out after claiming.

I haven't finished yet:-)
I'll put them up anyway - some are started.
http://www.squidoo.com/scuba-diving
http://www.squidoo.com/homebasedbusinessideas (got that idea from you Chris:-)
http://www.squidoo.com/annasa
http://www.squidoo.com/popmusic
http://www.squidoo.com/webrings
http://www.squidoo.com/downunder
http://www.squidoo.com/goldcoast
Squidoo is great! This is a great way to gather up important links for one niche, along with descriptions, RSS feeds and pictures, then place that one link on our other pages.
Have you had a chance to look at it Chris?

Yeah, Squidoo is definitely pretty cool. Already have one lens (TheLensMaster.com) "started." Where anything goes from there... well, we'll see!

Just put a post on my blog about Squidoo that gives more information on what it is.
So far, I can't say enough good things about them. I think it's one of the coolest things to come about since blogs, themselves.
Many thanks to Julieanne who first mentioned the Squidoo topic here. Without her we might not even know about it yet!

If there's anyone still using Squidoo, or would like to, we're having some fun promoting each other over at the Powerful Intentions Community
Pat Thompson has created a lens for Powerful Intentions Members, so if you're a member go over and have a look at what she's doing (see the URL above)
And, for those who want to know a simple and easy way to build your lens and do research on the Internet, I posted something on my blog about
Squidoo Bookmarklets
It's easier for me to direct you to my blog, otherwise I'd have to convert the HTML format for this forum:-(

I have been playing with Squidoo since Julieanne and Pat started the topic on PI. I think it has huge potential, and could really take off.

Congratulations Shane and Jenn!! Any hints for the rest of us, as to how you did that?
The highest ranking one I have is for Scuba diving
http://www.squidoo.com/scuba-diving - it's about 300. I haven't done much work on it yet, so not sure why it has that ranking. It's the highest for that keyword.

Julieanne,
I created lens for a few of my favorite artists and linked them to your Pop Music lens.
http://www.squidoo.com/Emmylou/
http://www.squidoo.com/joanbaez/
http://www.squidoo.com/evacassidy/
http://www.squidoo.com/sarahbrightman/
Emmylou is currently a highly searched name because of her winning song at the Golden Globes and the Grammy's, so that lens is ranking pretty high right now.
Emmylou
Winner 48th Annual Grammy Awards
Best Female Country Vocal Performance
Then I linked the 4 lens together. We'll see if that affects the ranking.

If anyone else has Squidoo lenses please post them here, so we can have a look. If it is within my Squidoo Lens Niche and I like it, I'll bookmarklet it to mine.

Julieanne,
Eva Cassidy doesn't fit into your timeframe on your pop music Lens. I don't think she was even born in the 70's....
;-)
However, Emmylou and Joan ruled!!

Forgot to mention that I had received an email from Squidoo with the subject line, "Your First Squidoo Paycheck (the real one!)."
They're completely out of beta now & paying. A statement of my money earned from March 1 to March 31, 2006 from my Squidoo lens http://thelensmaster.com was at the bottom of the email. Yep, real money.
Anyone else get this email? I'm assuming both Pat and Julieanne got theirs. They have pretty neat lenses.

-Joan Baez????? LOL Funny, her name has come up a few times in my circles this spring. I was never a huge Baez fan but did enjoy some of her work.
-Emmy Lou Harris is a long time favorite. (What happened there? It says it hasn't been claimed yet.)
-Sarah Brightman.....What a phenomenal talent. What a Range of talent!
-Eva Cassidy... how sad. Like many, I discovered her after her death. Hadn't listened in a whileI think I'll pull one of her CD's out tonight.
Thanks Pat!

OK, OK Once again I'm late jumping on the band wagon. Paycheck? I had no idea...
Anyway, I need to get my blog going but I finally did a couple of Squidoo lenses. One is product oriented that I will eventually group with others to form a bit of a business type.
http://www.squidoo.com/adaptogens
http://www.squidoo.com/garland
Pat mentioned she linked four together. Wondering how that is done. Is it just by creating the Link List and entering one by one then go to one of the others and list all but that one, etc.?
I appreciate your help and any suggestions as to possible directions to take this thing.
Oh...also what are the "add to del.icio.us" and "digg this" links. I couldn't find explanations for them. I know what digg is so I'm assuming it is just submitting your lens like a blog or web page submission but I'm not familiar with the other.
Gery
I think I figured digg this and the other but if anyone wants to elaborate I'm open to input.Last edited on Thu May 11th, 2006 04:04 pm by Gery_D
